We are pleased to announce two new members on our team of staff. Mimic and Slim have both agreed to join up with the admin team and aid us in making this place even better. Now, hopefully it will take even less time to approve applications, advertisements and get help to our members and guests who require it. Welcome Slim and Mimic!
+-----+-----+-----+-----+ATTN: VISITORS
Welcome to Marvel Heroes! Our newest site wide plot encompasses a bit of Marvel's Civil War story line, however we are not just copying it! In fact, very little of what will happen here will be similar to the comics themselves. It's no fun just to regurgitate what someone else did. We want creativity and adventure, "what if" twists and lots of conflict! We invite you to join in the adventure, choose a side or try to stay neutral of the Mandatory Registration Act.
A new dawn is upon us, and with it new challenges for all our heroes and villains alike. Another darkness lay waiting to take advantage of the heroes disarray and the mutants distrust. This darkness has no face, but looms over America like a storm that will bring an end to the world as we know it. Nothing will ever be the same once this storm passes, and it is unknown when or if it ever will. Are the heroes ready? Is America ready? Are you? Stay tuned as soon the "shot heard 'round the world" begins to change the face of those we knew as heroes and villains forever.
For the Greater Good PlotOther Side Plots
November's spotlight showcases a newer member who has taken on several characters and has put forth an awesome effort on the RP and is a very good writer!! Great job,Jean Grey!
Marvel Heroes RPG has been up and running for over two years. In that time, we have seen an evolution with the way we do things, going from no major plots to incorporating site wide plots and integrating them with one another's smaller plots. This is can be seen in Marvel comics also, like Civil War or Secret Invasion. As we continue to strive to be better, we are always looking for fresh ideas, good writers and dedicated members. If you're into comics, feel up to the task and enjoy a good group of people, Marvel Heroes RPG might just be for you!
Most all written stories and content supplied by the staff and members of Marvel Heroes RPG. Marvel Comics is our basis for most all graphics, characters and the Civil War plot. No copy rights infringement intended.

The Prime Directive (General Rules) « Thread Started on Mar 22, 2007, 3:11pm »
You are expected to know and understand what is written here. Ignorance of the rules is not an acceptable defense.
1. Respect one another. You probably won't like every player here, but I will not allow heated, nasty arguments, name-calling or public flaming. If this happens, you'll be BANNED. If you find yourself in a situation that you cannot resolve privately and peaceably, bring it to the Editors.
2. Each member is to have only one account. Trying to subvert this rule will result in Banination! If there is more than one member of your family role playing as a member of this site and using the same IP address, let the admin know. (This rule is here to keep anyone from having many accounts and grabbing many comic book heroes/villains, in effect keeping new members from having the opportunity for a main character.)
3. You are allowed to (until the site gets more members) have Three comic characters from the list of popular canons, two other super powered characters (TWO Marvel canon characters not listed among the popular available canons or ONE made up & ONE off list Marvel canon), and as many civilians or S.H.I.E.L.D. agents as you want.
a. Original Characters - Any character that you create needs to be not only Marvel-esque, but something you would see specifically in the Earth 616 Universe of Marvel comics. For example, this is not the Marvel Zombie-verse, so don't make zombies. If you want someone un-dead, go for Dracula. Also, if you are creating an original character, make sure you understand the meaning of "original." Don't just take a character from another universe (DC, manga, etc) and try to fit them in here without changing anything. For this, I would like to direct you to Martyr's Custom Character Guide.
b. Off List Canon Characters - If you can find a less popular or known Marvel Hero/Villain who isn't on the Taken/Available List, you can type as him/her. If they are dead in the comics, PM a staff member to obtain permission and have a plausible story line that could reflect why they are not dead. (This is an off-list character [deemed less popular and not on the list] that is included in the above character count listed in Rule #3.) The time line of this RP does not include House of M so most mutants still exist.
c. The List - Characters from Marvel on this list are those we thought of and deemed more popular of all the one thousand plus Marvel creations. That means there are a lot of characters not on the list so you should have plenty to choose from.
That stated, please note there some characters who are "most popular" among comic fans. There are also those which are deemed most important to the RPG plot. These Marvel A-List Canons should only be picked up/auditioned for if you can be committed to the site and know and love the character. Players of these characters have more strict posting regimens (minimum of once a week) as they are needed to interact with the site on a regular basis to move it forward. Take note of these canons and be sure you can post 3 or more times a week if you pick one up. The demands on you will be greater than other Marvel canons.
4. You cannot kill a character during the course of the game if they are a canon from Marvel comics, nor can you kill an original character without the player's permission. If someone wants their original character to die, they may allow someone to kill him/her.
5. To apply for a character, be sure to look at the Available List to know who you can apply for if you're looking for a canon. All new bios for both canons and original characters use the bio template to apply in the New Applications board. Once your application is complete, SuperChick will check it for approval to begin playing. You will know it is approved because she will reply to it as well as lock it and move it to the appropriate board.
6. We like to think this is an above average writing environment with above average writers. So, to prove we are Above average, no post should be less than Ten (10) sentences long or Two (2) full paragraphs. This does not include reverberations of the postings of other members. If you copy and paste someone else's dialog into your post, that addition does not add to your sentence total.
Let me tell you why this is a rule. Being descriptive in Fantastical Settings is really important. On top of that, in any good story, the characters are the primary focus. Every post you make should be filled with your character's thoughts, actions, and perceptions... and all new scenery should be described in detail. If you achieve in these goals, its impossible to write less than two (2) full paragraphs. Now, we may be lenient on this rule, if a post is really well written and you don't make a habit of it... however, you should never expect that we will be.
7. Use the resources provided to you by the board.
Since we are striving to be at minimum, above average, tons of spelling errors and grammatical mistakes will be frowned upon. This rule is more for the person you are writing with than for anyone else. It is hard to get into a reply when you can barely make out what you are replying to. We have this nifty little tool called Spell Check. Use it!(Many people make their posts first in a Word Processor with spell check, then once they get rid of all those little colorful squiggly lines, they copy and paste. Works well for many, and if you have problems with grammar it might work well for you.) Every post you make should be read over at least once before being posted. If it ever becomes painfully obvious that you don't care about your post quality, you will be warned, and then banned. We don't ask for perfection, but we do ask that you try.
Bookmarks. Remember that as you get busier in the game, it's easy to leave threads unfinished by forgetting about them. This handy feature can send you reminders when a thread in which you are role playing is updated and requires your attention. I highly recommend using this feature.
8. Don't start a story that is basically a fan fic of your character and close the thread so that only you are posting in it. If you need to create a back story for your made-up character, put the information in the character bio, or if you want it to be in a thread, ask someone to join and RP with you to develop it. Generally speaking, the Marvel heroes already have back-stories, so don't rewrite another.
9. Don't abuse the Karma System. If you like a post or the writing performance of another player, exalt them. If you dislike how another player has written or played their hero, you can smite them, however send them a PM (of friendly, constructive criticism) so they understand what they have done wrong and may improve.
10. Try to post as often as you can. Once a week, at the bare minimum.
11. If you're going away, sign the Away Sheet, so we know you'll be gone and when to expect you back. (If you know you're getting ready to leave on vacation, don't join several threads and then leave other players hanging.) If you sign the Away sheet then you will have time extensions for using your characters.
12. If you audition for a character from the list, but do not post with them for a week after your audition, or for two consecutive weeks without signing the away sheet, then that character will be put back up for grabs. BUT, note that those from the A-List of Canons will be taken from you if you don't post within ONE week! Also, you will only get one second chance to retrieve lost A-List canons. So be careful with the popular ones!
13. If a member/player is inactive for one month, then their account will be deleted. If there is an extenuating circumstance that you think is a viable exception, PM the admin and he will determine based on that information. Don't wait to do this after the account has been deleted. (Anything deleted cannot be recovered.)
14. Do not write for another person's character (god mod). Only write your own thoughts, actions, facial expressions, etc.. Read the God-Modding Defined thread if you have a question about god-modding.
15. If you need a hero or villain in your thread and they are played by someone, PM and ask the member to please join. Don't expect the player to know where their characters are needed.
16. If a Comic character is needed in a thread, but we have no one playing them on the site, you may ask a staff member to play that person for that thread or PM a staff member for permission for another member (or yourself) to mod the character in question.
If someone auditions and becomes that character while you are in the midst of the thread, the thread may finish without them taking over for the surrogate player if the surrogate player wishes to see it through. If the surrogate player wants to offer the part to a newly auditioned/accepted player, then they may do so. If a surrogate player starts a thread, then decides they do not want to finish, are leaving for an extended period of time or leave the RPG, then ask the admin to fill in for the remainder of the thread rather than pulling in another member again.
17. Please specify at the top of the thread when the thread if it is OPEN, CLOSED or INVITE ONLY. Also try to remember to say when the comic takes place, like "Between 'Death Grip' and 'The Fall Of Thor' ."
18. You can be in more than one thread at once. You can also be in more than one battle field at once. You don't have to follow a strict, streaming time line. You may have threads taking place in a different time, as in threads in the past, or in the future. Generally this happens when you are still finishing one thread but are needed or invited to another thread.
19. You're Hero might have the ability of invincibility, but that doesn't mean he/she can't die. Everyone has a weakness, Admantium, Magic etc.
20. Threads don't always have to go according to the comics. Actually, many threads will probably have not follow the direction the comic books have taken. This is fictional writing and you are taking a hero/villain and basically taking them into an alternate dimension. We consider this dimension Earth 616 version 2.
21. Be original when starting new threads, but don't be COMPLETELY out there.
22. Every thread does not have to be a hero saving some one. It can just be two characters having a chat, or anything at all.
23. All avatars and signatures must be respectful and generally modest. The comic costumes are revealing enough. Don't use a picture you find of a hero/heroine that exposes more of their body than would be shown in the published comics. I know they're out there, but I don't want to see them here.
24. Limit the size of your signature images to no more than 600 pixels wide and 200 pixels high. It keeps the board neater and easier to follow.
25. There is to be no posts that exceed the agreement by ProBoards. IE: if your character has romance with another, DO NOT divulge into details. Consider this board PG-13. Don't write beyond what you would see in the comics.
If you don't understand a rule listed here, please PM the admin for further explanation.
