The wall-crawling menace known as Spider-Man was cornered late last night in an alleyway in Hell's Kitchen by a pair of perceptive gumshoes. This turn of events came following a long and grueling chase across the city as Spider-Man and his accomplice, Doctor Octopus, also known as Otto Octavius, the former physicist turned super-criminal known for his mechanical arms, took their ill-gotten loot from the robbery of Links of London on Columbus Circle. The terrified screams of its patrons did nothing to soften the hardened hearts of super-powered reprobates like these two.
The many-armed monstrosity ran across rooftops as the Web-headed Robber followed behind, leaving a trail of webbing for the police to follow. At times, he even seemed to be leaving arrows. Perhaps, wishing to surrender after a lifetime of law-breaking.
The hot, white spotlight of justice finally fell on the anarchistic arachnid just outside of Nelson and Murdock Law Office. Spider-Man was boxed in by the light as two of New York's Finest zeroed in. They were fearless. They were determined. They were mere men going up against a super-villain who was known to throw cars at civilians. They were going up against a super-villain who seemed to have a supernatural sense of danger when justice came knocking. They were going up against a super-villain known to spontaneously grow four-extra arms to better steal purses. This did not phase them any more than fighting a super-terrorist like Magneto would have. They were there to do their jobs. They were there to protect their city.
Unfortunately for the brave men, Doctor Octopus seemed to notice the threat the boys in blue posed to his ally, because he soon took them in his mechanical clutches. One was flung into the street toward oncoming traffic and the other into the alley. "Catch", Octavius was heard to utter. The sadistic madmen were making a game of throwing policemen into harm's way! First, the spider-criminal shot a bed of webbing behind the cop thrown into the alley. As with his previous victims, experts believe this is so he can terrify his prey when he returns to them later. The menace then shot off toward the former, no doubt with a smile of glee hidden under his face-covering mask. Spider-Man webbed the officer up in a ball and hurled him back toward his accomplice.
During this time, Doctor Octopus abandoned his sidekick for greener pastures, taking all the loot with him. Seeing himself now out-numbered, the cowardly villain fled from justice in a flurry of webbing. The only good news coming from this sorry and sordid situation is that both of the lauded officers of the law are expected to make a full recovery. In no time, they will be back to fight villains like Spider-Man, Green Goblin, and Vulture. We will need them too, for the city waits with apprehension and fear for what the pair's inevitable grudge match will do to the Big Apple!
