-------------------- He asks them if they want to save the city or whine and they all start whining. Fantastic. Really puts their priorities in perspective. Bunch of damned kids who shouldn't even be here. Bickering over hurt feelings in the middle of a warzone. Though shit, because guess what? War wasn't fair. When the guy next to you is detonated by a shell and you're covered in his entrails, you haven't got time to complain about how unfair it is. You move forward and hope you can prevent the next guy from taking one too. Stopping to bitch about it just gets everyone killed. Well, there was one Hell of a shell coming down and Fury didn't have time to coddle peoples feelings. Especially when they were ignorant to how war actually worked. He didn't blame them for their ignorance on that, they shouldn't have to know. But he had to deal in facts, and the fact was they were here now and needed to deal with it. To be frank, Fury had half a mind to just walk out. His mission was the bomb. He'd certainly prefer it if he could get some assistance with it, but he didn't need an uncooperative group he had to babysit to make sure they were doing their jobs. What stopped him was that at least a couple of them actually wanted to hear what he had to say. So he had to weigh what would be his best attempt to get them to shut up and do the job and the time that would take versus going on alone and doing it himself. Ultimately it warranted one attempt, but if they keep arguing then he'd have to just leave them behind.
"Enough!" he growled while removing his cigar, focusing primarily on the complainers, "If you all want to keep whining, then fine, but I would have thought you'd be more interested in the saving the city bit. None of you were ordered to be here, you stayed of your own free will. So don't waste my time bitching about the lack of backup you were never promised to begin with. You don't like how SHIELD is handling things? Take it up with Hill, I'm not in charge of it nor is this how I would have played things. You don't like how the Avengers are handling things? Take it up with Stark. But also maybe keep in mind that wars have more then one battlefield and just because you can't see a guy next to you doesn't mean he isn't taking action, or even inaction, to win it." Fury told them. He didn't expect to them to know the inner workings of the politics going on around them. Did it suck? You bet it sucked. But their where other battles and sometimes you had to gauge how much, or even how little, of your forces you devoted to something to make sure you didn't lose in the bigger picture. It was never an easy call to make, but sometimes it was necessary.
"I don't give a damn what you think of me, hate me all you want. All I care about is getting the job done. The gangs aren't even the main problem right now. Black Widow and I have been trying to track down a nuke that's in the city somewhere. Now if we could all just focus on that instead, I'd be perfectly happy to give all of you a few minutes to just scream at me once we're safe from the threat of being atomized. If you'd rather continue debating superhero ethics and the implied responsibility of those who volunteer for it, I'd be more than happy to leave you to it and get on with the real work." Fury stated. Either way, this mission went on from this point, with or without their help. He figured he might at least have some volunteers and more people to work with then when he started, but it was still up to them. Fury put the cigar back into his mouth.

Daredevil saw through Fury's words; and while it was the wise move in this situation, he knew full well that outside of Cage, Fist, Jess, Spidey, and himself, the other people present were rookies and was just using this as a means to an end. "You still didn't answer my question, Nick," said Daredevil, and folded his arms. "Your scare tactic might work on some of the rookies here, but given how many wars we've fought on your behalf, I think you of all people would want answers when they have been withheld. You want a nuke stopped, we want the gang leaders removed from the board; Even if we remove one from the equation, the other will destroy it shortly thereafter depending on whoever is holding the switch," Cage stepped up, his frame towering over both Daredevil and Fury. "Daredevil's right: We've been focused largely on defense, we need to play offence. We can't just go looking for a bomb knowing that a stray bullet from a thug will get a child at the rec centre killed. Which would not happen if their suppliers were taken off the board," "Who in turn are funded by their pimps in ivory towers that nobody's been able to find for three weeks," said Jessica, completing her husband's sentence, turning away from Cap to look at Fury as well. "Frankly, I'm not so keen to die today,""Not to mention medical supplies for both the survivors and this particular safehouse," said Iron Fist. Iron Fist nodded at Nick Fury as well. He glanced back at Time Knight, Night Nurse, and Porcupine, who were watching intently. He then looked at Spider-Man, nodding to him before nodding to Daredevil. "You heard them, Nick," was what Daredevil said.

-------------------- Daredevil attempted to call him on dodging a question. While it was true that Fury liked having information, he also understood the importance of compartmentalization. It wasn't always the best course of action to share every detail. Doing so could bite you in the ass down the road. Information leaks were a bitch. Not that this had any actual baring on the current situation. Really, Fury had just wanted everyone to shut-up before he shared. After his cut in to the arguments, only a few spoke up again after Daredevil. Not arguing though, and sounding like they were actually on the same damn page. Finally, maybe they'd actually start listening instead of complaining.
"Well, now it sounds like I came to the right place." Fury said with a puff of his cigar, "And you're in luck, Santa Fury brought goodies." he added. Fury tossed the bags he had brought in onto a table and started opening them up. He continued talking as he went through them.
"Okay, first off: the gangs got their hands on hidden SHIELD caches around the city. I'm still working on how they found out about them, but I'm guessing the hidden heads are the only ones who know at this point." he said. The last part was a lie, but things would go more smoothly if they didn't know who was behind this whole mess at this moment. From one of the bags he pulled out some medical supplies and a map, which he rolled out on the table, "Second: I figured you'd be beat up, so I grabbed some stuff to try and help in the now. As for getting more, I marked this map with locations that still have supplies, accurate as of this morning. I've marked them all in green and written ratings based on supplies vs defenses. Your best bet is likely Yinsen Memorial on ninth in Chelsea. It seems to have been designated a back up supply so it's still well stocked and the defenses are what have been deemed minimum necessary. Should be easy enough for someone in this lot to deal with, and I'll even loan you Quake to help out. If someone else thinks they see a better target, though, feel free to speak up." he told them. He stepped back to his bags to let anyone who wanted to take a gander at the map.
"Brought some toys if anyone wants a piece too. ICER guns, non lethal. Good for dropping your enemies without worrying about moral backlash." he informed, then moved on again, "Okay, as for the nuke, I don't know where it is but I do know a lot of where it isn't. Got a few ideas to check out. And you're right, running some interference is a wise play. The 'Pimps' are marked on the map in red, that's where they're holed up right now. Everyone but Negative is on there, didn't manage to lock him down. We hit those spots and we'll pull attention off of the civilians and off the bomb squad. Okay, Quake and those looking to do the meds run, get moving. Quake knows the deal, so follow her lead. The rest of us are gonna prep attack plans." he said.

CAPTAIN AMERICA Steve looks through the area looks like the situation is at least a stand still. He really didn't like the fact that possibly some of them might not make it if things go south. He points to a small American flag tattered up in the corner. Daredevil was standing strong on his convictions like he did in the courtroom " Things are going to change we are going to take back this city. So are you looking to rebuild the Defenders or go with a new team? With the information that Quake has, we should be able to get this nuke off the streets with some time. Will still need are help and are eyes and ears on the streets...( He looks over to Night Nurse and Jessica and nods his head then at everyone else.)... Time is clicking away we will be on our way soon."Steve thinks about the loss of life that already accrued. His mind where back to an old mission very similar to this he was in a group called the Invaders where he first confronted a large group of Nazi's and Masterman , he was surround. When Bucky and a smaller team of basically unknowns came in and changed the outcome. He had fate in New York's Defenders. "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do, so mistakes are always forgivable if one has the courage to admit them. If you spend too much time thinking about a thing, you'll never get it done. Looks like we are about done here for now."

Spidey had taken up a spot on the wall where he sat crouched, listening to the back and forth between the battered and exhausted heroes of NYC and Fury. While he may have jumped the gun and been more aggressive with the super spy than intended, he still felt he had made valid points. However, there was no time for the name calling and accusations at the moment. Not only was the city in danger of tearing itself apart, but apparently someone was considering deep frying it. Must be one of those days. The kind that end in 'Y', he thought bitterly. "Oh good. A nuke. Because I thought this was about to get easier all of a sudden. Anybody have U.S.Agent's number? I hear he is good at finding nukes. Or is it just guys called Nuke? DD you guys are pals, give him a call!"
He sighed as he glanced around at the government sanctioned heroes. "Okay, so do we have a plan for actually finding this thing or do we just sit back and wait for the insta-tans? I mean we have to have something we can use right? Maybe rig up something to detect the bomb or detect it's signature? I know the Tower and Baxter Building are on lockdown, but there has to be other resources. Horizon Labs or Tricorp maybe? Otherwise this is just a needle in a giant haystack. Or does Plissken-Bond here already got something in play?"Just then a light bulb went off in his head, Fury's list of potential goodies and his own mention of different facilities triggering something. "You know, DD has a good point. We take out the nuke, we still have the gangs to deal with. But I think I have an idea to give us a little extra oomph in that department and maybe, just maybe help us rig something to locate Mister Negative too. Given the number of Inner Demons he's using not to mention the frequency his powers operate on it shouldn't be too hard." he said, smiling behind his mask. Walking over to the table to get a better look at the maps and locations he picked up an ICER. Sure, Spidey with a gun, even the non-lethal variety had to be a shock to his brothers and sisters in arms, but whatever strange looks he received he made worse by sliding the clip out and pocketing it. "So. Defenders huh?" he asked, looking from Cap to Daredevil. "We actually going with that name? I was going to suggest Web Warriors or DD's Dirty Dozen. Granted we don't actually have a dozen, but won't Gobby and Hood be surprised!"

Night Nurse was more than ready to snipe right back at Hawkeye and continue the venomously overtired back-and-forth argument, but both Fury and Captain America quelled those angry words with an resolute sense of calmness and an unflinching attitude that caused her to fall immediately back into line. This was the true super power to put all others to shame – the ability and knowledge of how to unite an army and lead them. Linda took a sharp breath in through her nose, in concession, her lips sucked in slightly between her teeth in order to keep her lashing tongue from getting the better of her again. That's when the former head of S.H.E.I.L.D. explained his latest exploits in the city during the past few weeks. “A nuke?!” the doctor gasped, hiding her mouth behind her hand in shock as her eyes glanced toward a few of the others. How was she the only one in the room to show any major concern over this news? Oh right...I'm in a room full of secret agents, super soldiers, and metahumans. A nuclear device lost somewhere in the middle of Manhattan is likely the equivalent of a stolen bike report to these guys. Night Nurse paled for a moment at that thought. She never did get a chance to return that bike after rescuing Quake all that time ago. I suppose this is the karma I have to bear, she thought as she returned her focus to the issue at hand and pored over the supply map Fury had brought with him. “The Defenders...” she repeated softly to the sea of green circles spread on the table. “Seems like an appropriate name for this rag-tag little group of super misfits.”Linda looked up from the map and looked long and hard at Daredevil, unsure if he was going to argue against her going out into the city for more medicine with Quake. She knew her place should be here at home base, that she was of more use out of danger than in the thick of it, but if her friends could risk their lives amidst the smoke and gunfire to put an end to this madness, she owed it to them to put in the same effort. Before anyone could fight against it, Night Nurse gave an acknowledging nod and small smile to Daisy. “I'll go with Quake. I have a bit of an eye for surgical supplies, after all.”

Roger just listened and watched as everyone argued with each other, rolling his eyes a bit. "Look, I'm as skeptical of shield as the next guy, but that doesn't matter right now. There will be enough time to yell at each other after the city is safe." he said, trying to calm down everyone. "I don't care who started things or how we go about doing it, as long as it's stopped before more innocent lives are lost. Can we all just agree on that? That saving the city is more important than our differences?"
Porcupine scratched his head awkwardly at the mention of The Defenders, but chuckled to himself a bit "Well isn't this ironic. Here I am a part of the Defenders when my predecessor was an enemy of the original team. Such is life I guess" he said with a small shrug, waiting for everyone to decide a plan of action.

Time Knight froze solid as Fury let loose on each of them, the man's gravely voice like sandpaper against her ears. The self righteous torrent of insults, moaning and hate speech striking a very unpleasant chord with the young one. He couldn't talk to her like that, he didn't have the right, she had been out here since before this war started helping people and he had the nerve to call her a whiner!!? That one eyed old crow probably couldn't even fight and...and...
It took a minute for Jovie to snap out of her haze and come back to the basement, her eyes blinking a few times to get her bearings again. Her ears started registering words just in time to hear Night Nurse start talking about a medical supply run with Quake. Given the history the three had, she figured that she'd be better off with them than with anyone else, they were nice. "Hm? Medical Supplies? I'll go with you two" She muttered shakily as she rubbed her forehead, her voice laden with fatigue. "Might need something to keep me awake though"

The nuke... Hawkeye had nearly forgotten about that detail. Perhaps he was too distracted by New York burning to ash? Still, a nuke going off would do a lot more damage than a few gangs setting fires and killing one another left and right. He had known about the nuke long before any of this happened, but he didn't dare tell anyone that. the last thing he needed was more people throwing verbal fists in his face. Once Fury had gotten done going over the basics of their situation, and the grand plan to go about taking back the city, Hawkeye stood.
"Alright... The Defenders. We're the Defenders." He said, cracking his knuckles before stretching out his arms. "I like it. Has a nice ring to it..." What better time for the Defenders to make a comeback? With the city going to Hell, a team with the Defenders' name might've just been what whoever was left in the city needed. It wasn't like anyone else was coming to the rescue, right? Looking towards Quake with a visible glare, he gave a nod. "Feel free to get moving any time. We're just wasting daylight right now, standing around like this. I'd hate to keep people waiting any longer, wouldn't you?" He glanced at Night Nurse, obviously hinting at her previous criticisms with an edge of bitterness.
He glanced out the window of the laundromat, squinting at the sky, which had been blotted out with smoke for longer than he'd like to remember. He slowly began to re-think his daylight comment. Nowadays, it was hard to tell night from day. It all looked exactly the same...
He turned away from the medic and his former friend, sighing and shaking his head as he tried pushing all of his qualms with the two out of his mind. Crossing his arms, he approached the others who were staying behind. "Well, Fury... You've got a Hell of a lot more experience with these types of situations than the rest of us. Any ideas for a type of offense?" Hawkeye asked, eager to begin taking the fight back to the bad guys. Despite how much he had defended himself since he had gotten here, Hawkeye still felt the guilt twisting his stomach into knots. Three weeks had passed... Three weeks of watching the world die around him, and all he could do was sit and wait. It made him sick.
Meeting up with everyone, putting his bow fingers to good use against those that had ruined everything, all of it could have been done so much sooner. He had wasted time that could've been spent helping people. There was only one question that still ate away at his mind... Which carried a bigger risk, sitting in the tower and doing nothing, or risking his whole reputation by going against orders and fighting with those who had already made such a bigger impact than himself? No. Now wasn't the time for questioning himself. Now was the time for finally taking action. Life only goes forwards, and at some point, you have to forget past sins and redeem yourself. Clint was going to do just that.
Looking back at the bow and quiver full of arrows leaning against the wall, a few which were missing from his little encounters at the tower and on the streets, he slowly walked over, placing both on his back before walking to the corner and picking up his mask. He examined it closely, looking over the soot that had been smeared over the vibrant purple fabric. Narrowing his eyes, he slipped it on before returning to the rest of the group. "This is gonna be a long day..." He mumbled, wiping the sweat from his mouth.

Quake listened to what Fury had to say she was focused and ready for the mission to take place. As Fury’s word hit her ears Quake began to question her orders, to go on a medical supply run as a civilian in a warzone was incredibly dangerous. Quake looked at Fury, not one to every really question his orders. Night Nurse could easily be used back in the laundry mat to aid all the injured. Quake wasn’t going to say her thoughts out loud. No she would wait till the right moment to explain to Night Nurse she was needed at the Laundry mat and Quake could get the necessary supplies on her own. Before she could do anything though and join any team she had to tell the team what she knew about the bomb, the last thing she wanted to do was put more stress on the already worn out heroes, but now was the only option she had to share the information. She pulled out a device and placed the USB that been in her pocket inside of it. She placed the device on random dryer and then addressed the group. “OK so the location of the bomb is on this device. I figure out after Elektra attacked me how to follow a few leads to find out where she hid the bomb…Quake stopped in her report realizing what she had just said was information Fury did not want her to release. Her mind started to move at a thousand miles an hour. On the outside Quake remained calm, but on the inside her mind raced. She wasn't even trying to give out the information about Elektra being behind the bomb. Maybe the exhaustion of the mission the incredible emotional an physical pain she was in, whatever it was that made her slip she knew would lead to Fury reprimanding her. She more or less was just talking about what lead her to find the information. She nervously moved her fingers through her hair and stammered a moment before she just continued to talk about the mission. It was rambling really in an attempt to cover up what she had just said. “Uhh…yeah…so… After being held captive and tortured for a while I was able to track down the location of the bomb.“Quake just stopped talking realizing she was not making the situation better. She sighed inwardly knowing that the information would crush Daredevil. Her eyes scanned the room a she tried to make sense of the thoughts in her head and the emotions in the room. Quake saw the way Clint looked at her the disdain in his eye, the pure thoughts of betrayal behind his eyes. She knew that he felt betrayed by her, if anything Quake understood but she more then anything just wanted to run over to him and just explain everything. She had a mission to complete and had to stay on target she walked over to Night Nurse and spoke to her. “Listen I think its better you stay here at the laundry mat. If any injured come in you are best equipped to handle the situation. I can go out into the warzone and get the supplies.

Daredevil's head darted in Quake's direction. Her body naturally emitting the constant vibrations made his ears pound. rumrumrumrumrumrumrumrumrumso quiet that only he could hear it, like an additional white noise magnified and supplanting what would normally be the white noise of New York City. But one word she spoke out rang louder than her body. Elektra.Suddenly a wave of thoughts began to fall like dominoes that had just been pushed. Hood taking down Negative's depot, Fisk's power play, The Enforcers trying to "protect" Osborn from the Hood's "assassination" attempt. Negative making a borderline detente with Osborn while Fisk and the Hood fought independently. Of course it was her; it was always her. Why? Why Elektra, why? He cut her off mid-sentence and headed straight for the door. "Whoa, Daredevil!" called Luke in protest, but he wasn't hearing him. "Don't do it, man!" cried Iron Fist; Matt he wasn't hearing him either. "What are you doing!?" asked Jessica; he didn't even care to hear her. Daredevil stepped out of the laundromat and out to the rooftops before they could even try to stumble over one another and get out to follow. He was gone from the block within a minute, swinging across the fiery chasms of this hell and he knew the one place where he would find its mistress next. It was dangerous, reckless, even suicidal. But damn it. Damn them all. He was going to stop this. Now. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A horrible silence fell over the heroes of the laundromat. Quake then awkwardly spoke again, finishing what she planned to say. Luke was the first to his words. "To hell with that, man!" snapped Luke to Quake, looking understandably pissed. "Luke!" said Jessica apprehensively. "Jess, I'm serious, if I were to find out my ex was behind putting all my friends in danger and setting my damn home on fire, I'd be out there too! But it so happens THAT guy in the red suit was the one keeping us all together and fighting!" "You don't think I know that!?" responded Jessica testily "ENOUGH!" bellowed Iron Fist, shaking the room with his voice. Danny rarely got visibly annoyed so this made Luke and Jess blanche a bit. "Reckless as he might be sometimes, ol' Hornhead would want us to get the job done. That man's been to hells that nobody present, not even the Avengers over there, can even begin to understand with maybe one exception," said Iron Fist, his thumb juttted towards Spider-Man in a small and subtle passive hand motion that nobody except the wall-crawler himself would pick up on given how close they were in the cramped room. Luke sighed. "I know man! But he's a blind guy with nunchucks and kevlar. He's not super strong or bulletproof. Asshole's just gonna get himself killed in his zeal!"Luke looked at everybody in turn for a moment and then sighed heavily. Murdock wouldn't want them falling apart even if the blind bastard himself was. "Which means we have to go on without him now, and right now we need to get on dealing with these gangs." said Luke who got up and with a nudge to Jessica, the two walked towards Fury's map with the others like the Porcupine and Spider-Man who were going to stay behind. Iron Fist walked to the desk a moment later and stood next to Luke. "I don't think so, Luke," he said. "What, is this some mystical kung fu mumbo jumbo?" he replied. Danny clicked his tongue behind his teeth; all these years, Luke still went for those cracks. The Immortal Iron Fist turned to look at his best friend dead in the eyes. "I have faith in him," he said. Danny wasn't very religious in the biblical sense; but Daredevil was and Luke knew it. Luke was taken aback by this for a moment and then nodded. "Alright 'Defenders'; let's get to work," said Luke who nodded to the heroes around him. Maybe Danny was right: He's Daredevil; the Man Without Fear. If he were still there, he'd still be fighting. And even in spirit, he'd still be kicking down the Devil's door himself if he had to to see it done. And so will they. -END
