Daredevil awoke abruptly at the laundromat. The smoke and ash of the neighbourhood had ruined his sense of day and he felt disoriented. Once he left Elektra back in Midtown, he headed straight here to find the place near empty with a note left for him by Spider-Man telling him (if he returned) where the others had gone: Jessica, Danny, and Luke all went out to get a status update on the territories and Peter himself went to Horizon Labs with the Porcupine. Fury, Cap, and Hawkeye had already gone into the sewers along with Quake to find Elektra's bomb. He heard Linda snoring like a chainsaw in a cot not far away and he could not sense Time Knight anywhere. Looks like a lot happened in both his absence and his nap. He reached for his special pop watch and began to feel the face. It was quarter after ten in the evening. Eighteen hours!? Yikes. Well, that explains the stiffness, he thought and with a heave, rolled himself onto the floor. He felt new stitches in the places Bullseye left his mark. It wasn't the only place that monster left a mark. He began to stretch as gingerly as he could so that the stitches (though not really serious and would likely not re-open too too badly if he needed to fight again, which he knew he would soon enough,) didn't pop prematurely. Linda already wasn't going to forgive him for taking another beating if she came to as it was from him grunting and moving. He suddenly realized she also removed most of his costume (probably to look him over when he was passed out...) except for his mask. Sure Linda's got professional courtesy but they were sharing base space with otherwise complete strangers! He found his costume, a fresh classic red number rather than the armored costume he wore earlier (which given its battle damage was probably for the best,) folded neatly next to another cowl for him to slip over. He pulled it on with delicacy and then sat for a moment to centre himself. A long night had passed, and after he found the others, another long night was coming.

“Thinking of going out again?” A familiar voice spoke softly from the doorway of the room where Linda had been sleeping after yet another long night of sewing up the holes that seemed to constantly find their way into Daredevil's flesh. Night Nurse was never the heaviest of sleepers, given the threats on her life she had so often dealt with due to the company she kept and the services she provided, but her whole body felt crackly and sore, leaving her utterly exhausted and finally sleeping through most of the night, albeit unpleasantly. She was sure that even if Matt didn't have super keen hearing, he would have probably heard her hobbling on the tightly bound, sprained ankle that she now wore as her own red badge of courage, though it was more of a painful reminder that she was ridiculously out of her element amongst those she considered very dear friends. Linda limped as carefully as she could on her wounded leg towards the blind hero, her eyes dark and puffy from restlessness, and touched him delicately on both shoulders with her hands to signal that she was behind him. He would know already, of course, but the doctor felt this would at least be a respectful gesture, regardless, with the ulterior motive of wanting to be close to him without a scalpel in her hand for once. “Matt...” she spoke in a whisper that barely grazed against the air, daring to press a little closer to him and take in his warmth. “...please don't. Not yet. You need to rest, and if you go out there now, I can't...” Night Nurse could feel a lump of despair rising up the back of her throat, her eyes stinging with the threat of tears as she lay her forehead against Daredevil's back. “...I can't assure you that I can bring you back the next time.”

Daredevil felt her head bury into the small of his back. She spent so much time with them that he often forgot she wasn't a superhero; not like him or everybody else here was at least. But maybe that was her greatest strength as well. "You sell your abilities short," he said and unwrapped her arms from around his waist and put them together, turning around to face her. To him it made little difference, but he learned long ago that to others it meant much more. He had just woken up from one bad dream and about to begin another. He tilted his head down at her as if to look at her in the eye. "But you really shouldn't be walking on that leg either," he said as he heard her ankle bone grind with a shifting scritch noise as she shifted her weight to get comfortable. He put his hand on top of hers while his other hand kept her wrists together. "Did any of the others check in while I was asleep?" he asked with a concerned tone for the rest of his "team" if he could call it that... What a mess he got himself into this time, he thought.

" That'd be me. The Spider-Man of tomorrow, here to save today... "

"I'm back! And I come bearing gifts just like a certain other jolly man in a red suit who spends unhealthy amounts of time on rooftops and with freaks that wear green and weird hats!" Spidey announced as he entered, crawling across the ceiling. His backpack was bulging as was a makeshift web sack he used to hold some of the odds and ends he had gathered from the lab. The case he had been particularly worried about was nowhere to be seen. He'd delayed his return to the Defender's base of operations specifically to sneak the case and its contents out of the city. Which was to say he tracked down Moon Knight and called in a favor to get him to deliver it to the temporary housing they'd set up outside the city. Within hours Mary Jane would be getting the package and he'd have a little bit less to worry about so as to better focus on the whole city falling apart. Dropping down to the floor he opened his backpack, spilling the contents about. "This here is everything I need to make something that can hone in on Mr. Negative's energy signature. Might take awhile to assemble, but it'll work, I can promise you that."Making his way over to Linda he waved. "Hellooooooo nurse!" he said, rather high pitched, before scratching sheepishly at the back of his head. "Just so you know, he's gonna complain, but you need to give Porcupine the once over when he gets back. Make sure he's okay or as close to it as possible. He seems fine, but, well, he took a heck of a hit out there. I'd hate to have Prickle Pants go down because he's trying to play it tough."Spinning around he snapped a mock salute off to Daredevil and in his best impersonation of a military grunt began shouting. "SIR! WE COMPLETED THE OBJECTIVE SIR! ALL MATERIALS WERE GATHERED WITH ZERO CASUALTIES SAVE FOR THE DIGNITY OF SOME OF HOOD'S MEN! SIR!" he reported. "Oh yeah, and us, the top floor of the Alchemax building kind of went poof."
He made an exploding gesture with his hands to emphasize the last point. "Overall it was mission accomplished. Going to have to repair Porcupine's suit before we can move out, but not as bad as it could be."

Daredevil winced at Spider-Man's entrance. After the webhead gave his entire report, he got his words in. "Spider-Man; Decibels: drop them," he said in short sentences, shaking his head. Bad enough he had to block out the noise of New York let alone a loudmouth for a friend. "At least you were able to find whatever it was you were up to at Alchemax. What happened to Horizon Labs?" he asked. Obviously with the city scrambling for supplies, they would have to find work elsewhere, even with Fury's maps aiding them. He waited for Linda and Peter to respond before he spoke again. "Did Fury leave his maps behind or are we going to have to wing this? Even with this device, if Elektra could scramble a simple nuclear device, we'll need to expect Negative to have a similar game plan," he said, thinking of course about tracking down Wilson Fisk and using him as leverage to end this war. His forces were fewer, though mostly powered to compensate, but that made infiltration easier given the numbers... He found a stool and sat on it, pondering their next move...

Linda's heart skipped a beat and picked up the pace as Matt looked directly at her, almost through her, the warmth of his hands upon hers in the nearly lost lighting of their hideout glowing throughout the rest of her body. She guided his fingers towards her cheek, holding him as close as he would allow and closed her eyes slowly as she became lost in that warmth, a soft smile gracing the tired face that he would never see. Night Nurse attempted to shift again on her injured ankle and winced slightly, her teeth clenching and brow furrowing in pain before she spoke once again, returning finally to the terrifying reality they both were trapped in. “It's fine, no big deal,” she lied. “Just need to rewrap it, is all, but it's just a sprain.”
The doctor was about to answer Daredevil's question regarding the whereabouts of the others on their team, when a loud, obnoxious, all too quiptastic voice broke through the grim quiet. “Well, there's part of your answer, DD” she replied softly with a sigh and a weakened laugh. Night Nurse nodded at Spider-Man, her gentle features fixing into work mode upon his mention of Porcupine in need of medical attention. “Of course, it's what I'm here for. Get him set up on the table and I'll give him a once over. Thanks to Quake and Time Knight, we have plenty to keep everyone in one piece for a little while longer.” She paused for a moment, adding with a mumble and a worried frown, “Though where they ended up at this point, I have no idea...” It was at this moment that Linda realized that she was still standing intimately close to Daredevil, and tried to open the distance between them, her cheeks turning a soft shade of pink as she hobbled carefully towards the makeshift operating table and leaned against it to better stay off of her leg. “As for the others, just Cap and Hawkeye passed through...with a guest. She said she...um...wasn't much a fan of the decorum around here and says you really should still consider that professional to redecorate."
Linda shrugged, looking a bit confused. "I'm afraid she was a bit cryptic, but I was told to tell you that specifically. I suppose it should make sense to you?"

Peter rolled his eyes beneath the mask. No one appreciates my humor. "Horizon had already been raided. They may have still had what we needed, but I figured it was better to fight a small army instead of a large horde. Besides, I was aware of a few extra goodies Alchemax had on hand that we might be able to put to use. I may be able to give Porcupine's quills a few new tricks now, plus I picked up some new duds for myself."He didn't bother to explain about Miguel. Far as Peter knew the futuristic wallcrawler wanted to keep his presence in the timeline as low key as possible for the time being and since he hadn't interacted with too many people beyond Parker, that was an explanation he just didn't want to delve into when more important things were happening. He likewise decided to leave out the details concerning his lifting a very special Spider Armor and his efforts to get it out of the city and to Mary Jane. Somehow I think our fearless leader here may take issue with my working with Moony to accomplish that, he thought. "His Spikiness should be back anytime now. He was rocketing over here when we left. I think you'd be proud of him DD. Stepped up in a big way and gives me hope that he'll officially be one of us hero types with a little spit and polish. But while you do your whole strategizing thing and wait for the others, I'm gonna go change and get started on the tracker. Could take awhile to get put together but between beat downs, crying, and running for my life I should be able to get it assembled."As he headed for the bathroom he turned to Night Nurse and said, "Nice to know they were able to get us set up with supplies. Guess we can stitch ourselves back together all proper like now instead of just having to put the duct tape to use. And that's two successful missions. I mean there is still nuclear Armageddon hanging over our heads and the neighbors are much to be desired what with the bombs, lasers, and general killing but hey! The neighborhood is looking up!"
With that he disappeared into the bathroom only to emerge a few moments later in the costume he'd borrowed from Miguel's lab. Sure he had sent the more impressive high-tech armor to his wife and this was far less impressive, but still an unstable molecule suit wouldn't tear allowing him more time to work on the tracker and less sewing so that he didn't add NUDETACULAR to the list of descriptors attributed to him. And given the rather familiar pattern it may just help in the stealth department, not to mention instilling some much needed fear into the criminals on the streets. He just needed to make sure to get back into traditional webs before he next saw MJ. "Tadaa!" he declared as he reemerged, crawling across the ceiling and lowering on a web. "I am vengeance, I am the night, I am back in black and freaking stylin' if I do say so myself."

True to Spidey's words it didn't take long for Roger to land at the base, heading inside as quietly as he could as he headed inside. Once inside, he saw Daredevil and figured he should at least inform him of his presence.
"Hey DD. Spiderman probably beat me back didn't he?" as Roger had arrived while Peter was switching costumes. "Well if you see-oh crap hope that wasn't insensitive...If you hear him around let him know I'm going to go get myself checked up" said Roger, hoping he hadn't insulted Daredevil's handicap as he headed for Linda's station.
"Hey Doc, if your not busy could you give me a lookover? Jumped on a grenade for webhead back at the lab, and while this suit is tough I'd still like to make sure there isn't any lasting damage." explained Roger, his armor making a quiet hissing sound as he took it off and set it by the wall, keeping his mask on for the moment

Daredevil glances at Spider-Man, not noticing any change to his wardrobe beyond the fabric being made of Reed Richards' patented unstable molecules and merely nods. Daredevil raised his eyebrow underneath his cowl: Last he checked he never told the Porcupine his secret identity, so why was he acting like some college student desperate to be accepted by people who openly insult him for being what he - - oh. Dripping in internal irony, the thought still gave him pause. But only briefly as three familiar faces returned to the laundromat. Jessica, tall for a woman but easily the smallest of the three, stepped in with barely a weighted step. Danny, the Immortal Iron Fist, stepped through second with a practiced step even quiter than Jessica's. The third, Luke Cage, large and burly, came in with heaving sounds on the steps. thud thud thud thud
Daredevil smelled gunpowder. "You've been busy," said the Man Without Fear, which had Luke react the biggest of their mutual surprise. "And you're awake! After the Black Widow dragged you in and took off with the Avengers, or so she told us,- -" said Luke with his thumb jammed towards the Night Nurse, "- - we saw you here passed out like the grave!" "And now that you're awake..." said Jessica, who walked up to Daredevil, and after a second, gave the Man Without Fear a jab in the gut. It didn't have her super strength behind it, but he felt it even through the protective mesh. "Don't you ever #$%*ing run off again, you got that, asshole?" she said, though her tone was more in relief than anger. "I got it," said Daredevil, who had returned his breathing to normal. "It's good to see you up, Devil,"Daredevil nods to Iron Fist before walking around to the table of the maps of New York that Fury had given them. He must've gone with the Avengers, he realized before turning back to the others. "So what'd you find?" "A lot of the Kingpin's men. He's already scrambling in the wake of us just poking at his defenses," said Luke, who was tearing off the bullet hole soaked t-shirt and replacing it with a fresh one. "I managed to trail them however and the fat man does kind of weigh down a car no matter how slick his manipulation plan was. We suspect he's going back to Fisk Tower. Desperate, but secure," said Jessica, who was similarly stripping off her casual clothes to put on her own nanomesh costume, though she had every intention of putting the jacket back on given the weather, hence why she placed it on the chair rather than in the pile. "And if we can get Fisk to call off his forces..." said Iron Fist, Daredevil knowing where he was going with this. "Then all that leaves is Mister Negative, which Spidey here said this device here can help us locate. But Fisk might prove useful in narrowing that search down even further. Besides, I need somebody to hit..."

Night Nurse nodded to Porcupine and motioned for him to hop up onto the operating table. “You know the drill, dear. Costume off, mask can stay on if you need.” As soon as Roger was ready to be looked over, she started gently pressing latex gloved fingers over his flesh, finding mostly bruising and several scrapes, but nothing life threatening on the surface. “Holy crow...I don't know what that suit of yours is made out of, but can you maybe find another one for Daredevil sometime? Maybe I wouldn't be using up so much gauze!” Linda shot a coy smile in Matt's direction at this gentle barb, just in time to see Spider-Man make his catwalk strut down the makeshift runway that was the Defender's base of operations, decked out in sleek and elegant black and white. “Looking good, Spidey,” she added, returning her attention back to Porcupine. “As far as I can tell without more advanced equipment, your buddy here is gonna be just fine. Nothing a few tabs of aspirin, some ice, and some time to rest up won't cure, though he's likely going to feel very stiff for a while.” Linda narrowed her eyes at the spiny hero in deadly seriousness, poking him directly in the chest as the remaining Defenders returned and discussed their next move with Daredevil. She continued, “But believe you me, you feel the least bit faint, the least bit nauseous, or even just an inkling of feeling not quite right, you're out of the running, you understand? I don't exactly have access to a CAT scan or an MRI out here, so you gotta trust what your body tells you, and not push yourself.”

At the Boat docks close to midnight: Mr. Negative sat on his black leather office chair in his small office planning a last stand. He was getting desperate. His last count his men were down to a couple hundred Triad and his ten Inner demons left. A large shipment was arriving tonight. With more weapons and food he would be able to feed and protect his men. He walked out to the boat docks, he had about fifty men there to ensure all goes well. At the Dock three places for large ships to enter, it was a decent amount of ground to cover. The thick fog with less than a quarter mile visibility was not helping either. "We will rebuild do not let the recent troubles discourage you. By three methods we may learn wisdom. First, it is by reflection which is the noblest. Second, by imitation, which is easiest. And third by experience, which is the bitterest. My people, we need to be more of the second. I will no longer tolerate failure. Learn from your mistakes. A diamond with a flaw is worth more than a pebble without imperfections." Mr. Negative enters his small office and watches on monitors. He knew something was wrong the fog was a hindrance. Mr. Negative watches all three ships arrive on time with the third and the second out of his visibility without cameras. He has his men move fifteen crates into a couple trucks without incident. " Continue men this is just a start of the empire. John Li, What is this? Camera five is out sent three men over there to check it out, on the third ship bay. John, you better have things under control over there."

One Hour Later....Daredevil led the charge in the group's march to Fisk Tower. The city was almost empty, but the borders created by the gangs were still very much in tact and Daredevil had to be careful of a misstep and falling into one of the charred rooftops. More than once he heard even Spider-Man warn the others who didn't have forewarning of danger to look out. After a month, however, he was shocked as many of the buildings were still standing as they were, though given the amount of steel and concrete, maybe not. They were less than a block out from the border of Fisk's territory in SoHo before they stopped. Jessica pulled out a small pair of binoculars to oversee. "Well, give the fat man credit: he's shored up what little territory he has left," she said seeing a makeshift wall of debris followed by patrols of men in tight, almost military, coordination. "Can you find a way around them?" asked Daredevil, though he could sense a lot of heartbeats buzzing like a highly regimented beehive. "Short version: not likely," replied Luke. "If we try the direct approach, it'll be more than our butts if they see us," said Iron Fist. "And if we try the stealth approach, Fisk might expect it," replied Luke, "Especially if it's those two," he pointed at Daredevil and Spider-Man. "Well we don't have a lot of options, genius!" replied Danny and Daredevil glanced over to Spider-Man and the rookie. "He's got a point," said Daredevil to Spider-Man, whom despite the snark, always had a valued opinion amongst them.

Kingpin (Wilson Fisk) [temp]
All warfare is based on deception. Hence, when we are able to attack, we must seem unable; when using our forces, we must appear inactive; when we are near, we must make the enemy believe we are far away; when far away, we must make him believe we are near.- Sun Tzu, the Art of WarKingpin was a man of strength. He was, at least in his own mind, a man of dedication and of principle. He was a man of honor. He followed the rules of the game. That other men were not of sufficient willpower to keep their lives, their homes, their livelihoods, it was not his concern. By the rules of the game, they were his for the taking as he obviously wanted to gather each of them more than they wanted to keep any of them. There were times, yes, there were times when he lost all that he had fought tooth and bloody nail for, but it was forever and only a minor setback. He would and always would have it and more back when he tore through whatever had the audacity to attempt to replicate his success. Around him, the city burned. Everything was chaos. He was not a fan of chaos. Broken legs of those who did not pay up, yes. Sending his enemies scattering to the four winds, of course. But pure and unadulterated chaos was bad for business. Certainly, once things settled somewhat he could began exploiting it. He could begin profiteering off of the suffering of the meek and the stupid, but that would take time and resources that he could not at the moment spare. He had already planned for the aftermath of what had befallen the city. Everything he needed was long gone from this shattered metropolis. It was in Switzerland and the Caribbean in locked boxes and dummy holdings. It was all of it secure. But, he was not there. He was here in his tower with a merest pittance for the sake of appearances, a few million dollars in hard currency and antiquities scattered throughout his office. He knew that the vultures would come and circle and he would tear their wings off feather by damned feather. He had a cigar between his lips and a bejeweled cane between his fingers. His eyes scanned the skyline as an array of notices from the security systems and spies flashed on a set of nearby computer screens.

"I'm almost surprised to see there are any guards left at all," Spidey said. "I mean with NYC cut off from the outside world I half expected the Fat Man to resort to eating them. I mean even in this town, Twinkies have gotta be running low."
Quips aside, Spidey was concerned. Fisk was never a laughing matter. The man had money, power, and a small army at the best of times. This however was not the best of times. There was no telling how desperate the Kingpin was to prove that even in this lawless, abandoned city, he was still top dog. The other Defenders had a damned good point. A direct assault was sure to result in death or capture, depending on how petty Fisk was feeling. But knowing that Daredevil and the Wallcrawler were still in town and having clashed with the pair more than any other hero, he no doubt expected the stealthy approach from the both of them. "He'll be expecting DD and myself to take the silent approach. I can't count the number of times I've had to crawl through the vents to get at him. Way I see it, we have two options. We split our forces, Luke and our heavy hitters cause a distraction while Hornhead and I do exactly what he expects, and hope the distraction draws enough of his forces to get in a good shot at the man himself...or we do the unexpected. DD and I do the frontal assault. We hit them hard and fast, disappear into the streets and pick them off as they come after us. Make sure Fisk sees us...and the rest hit the main building and drag Lard Man out. Seeing us act out of character may make him over confident, let him think we are broken and exhausted...or more than we really are anyway."Looking at Daredevil he shrugged. "Your call oh fearless leader. Just remember, whoever goes after him? Lift with your knees. For the love of God lift with your knees. Cause I don't know that any cranes are still operational." Looking at the rest of the group his tone turned more serious. "In all honesty though, do not underestimate him. Fisk ran these streets for a long time. He's being pressured from all sides and not just us. He's not exactly a caged animal, but it isn't far from the truth. No telling what he'll do."

"If my experience says anything is that these mafia bigwigs are never a petty threat. But Fisk? Man from what I've heard that dude makes other mob bosses quake in their boots." As Roger started to think for a moment about the plan. "Hey Webs, Hornhead, you two have faced Fisk often right? what is he like in a fight, more brains or brawn? Because if I can manage to get close of him I could spray out some knock out gas in his face. Could make him easier to handle, or if we're lucky make him pass out entirely."
As Roger finished off his suggestion with a shrug "Then again I'm just a former flunky. I'd say you two should decide. Nothing like experience to formulate a plan, and you two sure have a lot of that. Either approach I'm willing to provide backup to whoever needs it." he said, watching the seemingly leader of the team Daredevil.
