Every so often we have contests. This one is a writing contest.
Eligibility:
All players with at least one accepted character are eligible to participate in the Writing Contest. The Admin/Mods may contribute stories but will be ineligible for the top prizes. Only ONE entry per player. Players with multiple entries will be asked which story they are submitting. In order to be eligible, the story must:
1. be posted within the Going Solo subboard by 10 pm CST on September 1, 2021.
2. be at least 1,500 words across any number of posts. For example, both one post with 1,500 words and three posts with 500 words each would count.
3. have WRITING CONTEST: [Title] in its title. We don't want to have to search through each solo between then and now to see if it might happen to be an entry.
4. include at least one character the player currently plays in the story.
5. be somehow tied to the theme of either 'the Best Day' or 'the Worst Day'. It is not necessary for it to be your character's titular best/worst day.
The Stakes:
FIRST PLACE PRIZE 100 bonus posts to your counter (effectively a 'free' character if you have under 1000 posts).
SECOND PLACE PRIZE 50 bonus posts to your counter.
THIRD PLACE PRIZE 25 bonus posts to your counter.
Participation Anyone who submits an eligible post to the contest gets 5 bonus posts added to their counter.
These will be awarded after the contest is closed and the votes are all in to avoid headaches. They are not cumulative. Plus you get a "Silver Medal" No-Prize for participating and a "Gold Medal" No-Prize for winning.
The Voting:
After the contest is closed, any member may vote for their favorite story in the contest. A poll will be set up so that it cannot be viewed before voting. Each player gets one vote. The story with the most votes will get first place, the story with the second most amount of votes will get second place, and the story with the third most votes will get third place. Ties will be broken by a vote among the staff.
We ask that you consider these criteria in your vote. Exact weight is up to you:
quality of writing - is it technically all together? (few angle/angel mix ups).
quality of story - is the story itself good?
quality of characterization - do the characters behave as they ought to?
adherence to theme - does it have a connection to the theme?
originality - was this something that felt new?
