"More powerful than Thor, Hulk or the Surfer."------------------------------------------------------ Franklin watched as Shelly rose up and left. Maybe he was wrong to include her in this. Heck, he knew he was wrong; he just wanted an excuse to come here and check on Klara. In retrospect, it wasn't really fair to Shelly, even if she agreed to come. The young Richards looked at Klara expectantly. He wanted to help her. And he wanted to help Shelly. He wanted to help all the kids here. Instead, Klara came to his rescue and offered to cover for him. "Thanks," he said with a weak smile. "I hope I can repay you sometime. Really, I do."
The door outside opened, and someone stepped out. Shelly probably couldn't see him from her position, but she might hear him as he stepped up beside her. "Hey," the boy said. "I'm sorry you had to see this."Franklin slid onto his butt, taking a seat right next to his friend. He didn't say anything immediately, instead choosing to sit in silence for a moment, so she could collect her bearings. After a moment, Franklin spoke. "No. I'm sorry I brought you here. I shouldn't. It was a jerk move of me to make you come."------------------------------------------------------ "I can do this!"

"No it's... I..." Shelly didn't know how to put it, she'd never experienced something like this before in the present. "Everyone just kept talking about being tired and hurting and and..." Shelly was beginning to hyperventilate. They're all so scared. It was as if she was hearing nearly a hundred different voices all at once. She'd tried to ignore it at first but after hearing the shocking things Klara said, everything became so much louder eventually to the point of overwhelming her. Even curled up outside she could still pick up their voices from inside of the building. "It's not just mutants in there isn't it? There are other human... kids in there too."Why is everyone in the past suffering so much? She's never experienced anything like this in the present. "I-I don't think I can do this, can we go back now?" It was never like her to be whiny yet at the moment the girl was anything but herself. All she wanted was to go home, really badly. I can't take this place anymore!--------------------

"More powerful than Thor, Hulk or the Surfer."------------------------------------------------------ Franklin nodded in understanding. He could understand what she was going through. For someone as young as her, this had to have been a terrifying experience. And unlike him and Val, she wasn't used to seeing the darker side of history and humanity. What's taking the new kids so long?OW! Don't touch me!
Oh God, he's coming again."I've seen this sort of thing tons of times," the boy confessed. "I knew better. Or, I should have known better... I was being selfish, making you come."Please, please, please.
Where are you, Lord?Franklin dug into his pants pocket, then produced a familiar remote. After pressing the "Reverse" button, a faint glow of light twinkled from the forest. It signified the arrival of the Time Platform. Or rather, that the Time Platform found its destination, and would arrive soon. I want Mommy... I want Daddy! "You can wait for me at the forest," Franklin said as he turned and opened the door. "I just need to talk to Klara. Make a last-ditch effort to try and bring her along." Only twelve more buttons, and I can eat.
Franklin sighed as he entered the building. Reading minds sucks sometimes. ------------------------------------------------------ "I can do this!"

Klara's thoughts were different. More like "where were they!" Fear of loosing her pay for the day. Hoping that her husband wouldn't give her a beating for not bringing home the wages. The bonus was good but she couldn't lie about loosing it. She was a good girl. Lying was a sin. She was working hard and had told the foreman that the girl was getting fresh air. Yes, her factory knew that working kids were against the rules but they didn't care as long as they got the labour. Klara worked hard on sewing the button holes but was more afraid that she wouldn't get a break if they insisted she finished all the other work if the pair didn't return. Maybe it was for the best as the girl had seemed pretty young. But the boy... Franklin he was different. She spoke to the plant while she waited and found out some interesting things including that she had looked after it in the past.... and that Franklin was very good at looking after it. She smiled. As Franklin caught up, he could hear her say to it.
"You will flourish wherever you grow and be the most beautiful rose bush of all."
She paused then giggled. It was definietly looking bushier and prettier by the time Franklin came in. Two more roses had started to bud on it. Plus Klara had a small pile of shirts which had all the button holes and buttons sewn on. She worked fast but paused looking up to Franklin.
"Hi, is she coming back? I can't finish all this work without your help and my husband is waiting for the pay check to pay the bills."
Meanwhile her thoughts were more of her having to pay the bills and her husband waiting for his bottle of whiskey.

Breathe in, breathe out.It took her a while, but Shelly managed to cool off a bit outside the factory. And as she did, the voices she heard inexplicably subsided. She could still hear them now if she paid attention, but at the same time they'd quiet down if she tried to ignore them. She still didn't understand what they were, but she's starting to get a sense on how to control them. Still, it was strange for her, to ignore voices of people hurting an suffering.... it made Shelly feel unpleasant and disappointed in herself. But she didn't have a choice. The voices were to her like an unseen force pushing her down, threatening to crush her. The little girl wouldn't have been able to bear that weight for much longer. But that didn't mean she was going to abandon the voices completely. She might not understand them yet, but one thing she's sure of is that they were hurting and scared. And Shelly had already had her experience with that. And nobody should feel that way. She had to figure out what those voices were, and if there was anything she could do to help. Those answers wouldn't come if she stayed here, and neither if she came back, despite Franklin telling her to do so. Instead Shelly, entered the factory again, even if doing so meant she'll have to confront those voices. So tired.... so hungry....I need to fix this quick, if the overseer saw I made a mistake, he'll hit me again! The little girl groaned softly as she passed through. Nobody around her was talking, but she still heard voices all the same. It's quieter than they were at first, now more akin to whispers, but anything Shelly picked up made her uncomfortable. I don't like being here.It felt like forever before he reached Franklin and Klara. Even now she could pick up a voice worrying about bills.... and being beaten by her husband. Shelly flinched, but she forced herself to move past it. "Hello." Shelly squeaked barely audibly. "Can.. can you show me how to do the buttons again?"--------------------

"More powerful than Thor, Hulk or the Surfer."------------------------------------------------------ Looking at all the poor kids, Franklin had to fight himself not to try and take them all with him. Freeing them from their torment would be great, but separating them from their families and erasing their descendants from the timeline wouldn't be. Maybe Klara should stay, then? So she can have descendants? But any family she would have would come from that husband of hers. Yet was her well-being worth more than the lives of others? As you could imagine, this was all too much for a thirteen-year-old to wrap his head around. But his gut instinct said that Klara belonged in the future, and he was at least going to try with that. Franklin looked at the roses and smiled. Then, he answered. "I think it'll just be you and me."And Shelly! Because guess who decided to show up. She was looking worse for wear, it was clear that she hadn't fully recovered. Her body, and even her voice showed the strain she was under. "Yeah, we should get back to work," he agreed. Shelly, you sure? Maybe you should just go home. I can handle this. To Klara, he asked, "Hey. If you could quit working, leave your family and live in luxury, would you do it?"------------------------------------------------------ "I can do this!"

Klara looked chest fallen when Franklin told her that it would just be the two of them. She looked around at all the work that needed to be done, took a deep breath, smiled and picked up the next item.
"Well... lets get started."
She was busy sorting out a button hole when Shelly walked back in and Klara grinned from ear to ear.
"Sure, I can show you."
She placed her needle neatly into the piece of cloth she was working on before picking up a different item and started to show Shelly how to sew a button on the mark on the cloth. Giving instructions as she went. She was busy working on it when Franklin asked her the question and she paused in her work. Her mind and face look horrified. Yet, her mind was also tempted but she knew it to be a sin. She was already a sin she didn't want to be one any further.
"Erm.... I can't leave my husband. I swore an oath in front of God."
She crossed herself and did a little prayer.
"My mother gave her blessing as did the priest from the village I came from. You can't turn your back against God. Living in luxury is a dream everyone has coming to America and all have to work hard to get there. Even us kids."
Her mind was screaming but he beats the sin out of her and treats her worse than he does himself. Yet, she had promised. He had never caused her serious harm, just light bruises when she had done something against God. That was right wasn't it?

I have to do this. Shelly replied to Franklin with her thoughts. Sewing buttons turned out to be simple enough, and it only took Shelly a few tries before she could get it right consistently, despite never having done so before. But her "work" wasn't what was bearing down her mind. It was the voices coming from all around her. Loudest one currently was Klara's, though Shelly could tell she wasn't actually speaking. It was almost like when Franklin was talking to her telepathically. "But that means...." The girl mumbled audibly. She could read minds, Shelly finally realized. Was this what telepaths hear all the time? She couldn't imagine ever getting used to it. So much pain, fear, hunger.... Klara was no exception, her thoughts were loud. And being right beside her, Shelly felt like it was being screamed to her ears. The girl's face cringed reflexively. Beating the sin out of her? Shelly had never heard such nonsense before. As she was about to speak out her own thoughts however, another voice intruded her mind. The girl had gotten used to the voices she heard from what must be the other kids, but this was so alien and so different that Shelly couldn't help but visibly recoil as she heard it. Which one of these are slacking, I want to beat the tar out of somebody heheh. Even if they aren't, I might just do it anyway. Not like anyone's gonna do anything about it.Evil. That was the only way she could describe this new voice. She could hear the other voices growing more fearful as they came into contact. She looked back to notice a large man walking about the factory. He was the source of the evil voice, she could tell. Shelly must have looked too long however, as their eyes met when he looked up. "What are you looking at!?" He shouted. "Get back to work before I decide to come up there!" The sheer intensity of his voice and thoughts spooked Shelly into obedience as the girl immediately turned away. --------------------

"More powerful than Thor, Hulk or the Surfer."------------------------------------------------------ "Is it really an oath if you were forced into it?" the boy questioned Klara. "Oaths are about having choice, but choosing to devote your life to something or someone you love. But did you really have a choice in it? You're young, your parents arranged the deal, you don't like your husband. "Franklin kept his hands busy with sewing, but his mind was all over the girls. Now he could tell, Shelly seemed to know something about Klara. She could tell that things were sucky. This was becoming too much for her; they had to wrap things up quick. "I don't know too much about religion, but I don't think God would approve of you being made to live in Hell. He loves His people, He would do anything to save them."Franklin held out a hand to her. "You never know, maybe we're both here for a reason? Maybe it's destiny, a meeting arranged by a higher power?"Of course, things couldn't be calm and easy. One of the slave-driver adults turned his sights on Shelly. Instinctively, Franklin turned from Klara to rise up and face the man. "Hey, don't you yell at her!" he barked. "Can't you see she's not feeling well?!"------------------------------------------------------ "I can do this!"

Klara looked offended at Franklin, she was appauled by what he said but... did she have a choice? No, it was this or ... the thought that ran through her head was dark, the persecution, the hate, and most likely banishment or worse!!! The priests might try to exorcise her. She wouldn't mind the last because she did think of herself as being cursed. Yet, she still attended church and her faith was strong. It was just the plants talked to her and she could talk back. Help them grow, she had been called a witch by her mother, perhaps she was one? She was safe with her husband, he would protect her as long as she would do her part as a wife.
"An oath in front of God can not be broken.... I am destined for Hell, I already know that. Just maybe ...."
At that point she looked up as the overseer of the floor stomped over. He was looking in a worse mood than ever. She also knew better than to speak to him at that point in time. She bent her head down to carry on sewing. She felt sorry for Shelly and knew what was about to come, if she was lucky it would just be the belt, if she wasn't it would be to the manager's office and that was almost always instant dismissal. Klara clamped her jaw shut and tried to tug Franklin back down but it was no good, he yelled at the Overseer! Of all the things, she couldn't get involved, no one could. It was the fear of loosing the job that everyone had, not having money meant going hungry and becoming homeless. She looked over to Shelly and then down at her sewing indicating for Shelly to carry on sewing.
With the Overseer this riled someone was going to get a beating and chucked down the stairs. Possibly made to work with the chemicals to dye the clothing... people died young there. Klara wiped her brow as the heat of the building was getting to her as it was a lot of others. She looked back up to Shelly with a worried and apologetic expression. There was nothing she could do. She needed this job in order to live, needed it to survive and provide. The duty of a good wife.

The evil voice didn't like that one bit. Shelly staring at him was one thing, but if that hadn't been enough to stoke his rage, then Franklin's shouting definitely put him over the edge. His angry loud stomps could be heard clearly going up the stairs and Shelly trembled besides herself. And hearing his thoughts all the while didn't help at all with her anxiety. Shelly did her best to focus on sewing buttons though her hands were shaking like crazy. It was almost a miracle that the girl didn't stab herself. The evil man was standing right behind her, Shelly could almost hear him breathing.... and then he went beyond her. For a moment, Shelly breathed in relief, before she realized what that meant. I should help him. That was Shelly's thought, but her body refused to move. Whatever happened next, this was about to turn ugly if the evil man's thoughts were anything to go by. He was standing right in front of Franklin, his gigantic body in comparison looming over the boy's comparatively far smaller frame. "What did you say to me boy?" He asked with a dominating, terrifying voice. --------------------

"More powerful than Thor, Hulk or the Surfer."------------------------------------------------------ At the time, Franklin forgot that he was a child. He also forgot that he could have just made the man forget he even spoke to him. All he thought about was standing up to the man and helping his friends. "I said not to yell at her!" he said sternly. Admittedly, he probably shouldn't have done that without a plan. Now, with the reality of the situation seeping into his mind, Franklin was sweating. There was no way he was going to recklessly use his powers; it would be suspicious at best, and dangerous at worst. Physically, a thirteen year old boy was no match for a fully grown man in a fight. "Back off!" he announced. "Go pick on someone your own size, instead of freaking out on some helpless kids."This time, his voice was still, but very cautious. He was doing his best to stay the course, but the worry in his voice was very clear. "... What- what good is yelling going to do, anyway? If she's not feeling well... yelling will make her worse."------------------------------------------------------ "I can do this!"

Klara was wide eyed and her jaw had opened. She had never heard anyone speak to the foreman like this. The noise from the rest of the floor had gone quieter as if every ear was straining to hear what was being said. Klara for her part kept quiet as she knew if she said anything then the repercussions would be dire for her. In her mind she said a little prayer for the man to calm down and not beat seven bells out of Franklin. At the same time her thoughts became distracted as the small plant was beginning to grow. It wasn't her fault it was trying to protect her the only way it knew.
Klara knew it would either end up with Franklin being physically picked up and chucked out or getting beaten until he was black and blue all over. The latter was what she was betting but it made her feel even more nervous knowing the fate of poor Franklin. It maybe his first day but it was probably going to be his last also. As for Shelly, as long as she kept her head down and didn't interrupt then she might be in with a chance of keeping her job and so supporting the rest of her family. The poor girl didn't look good to Klara but that was what happened. Many people in that factory fainted due to heat and exhaustion. A quick bit of water normally brought them to consciousness and everyone there knew if they didn't get back up and carry on working they would loose their job. That's why most of the women worked mainly in their under garments to keep themselves cool during these hot days.
She just hoped she could keep the bonus. It would be the difference between her husband beating her for loosing extra money for alcohol and being able to buy said alcohol and food for the week. She just needed Franklin to apologise and get back to work... or to take a beating. If he carried on then she didn't know what would happen next.

What is he doing? That kid will get us all in trouble.Just keep sewing, just keep sewing. I didn't see anything, I didn't hear anything. Our Father who art in heaven....Too many, too many, too many thoughts are swirling inside her head. Her body was frozen in place, yet her mind was moving at a thousand miles an hour. Her mind? Was it her mind that was moving? Hers, or everyone else's? Shelly couldn't even think, inside her mind was a swirling chaos, outside were Franklin and the evil man screaming at each other. Both were driving her insane. Stop! Stop! Shelly screamed wordlessly. "Back off! Go pick on someone your own size, instead of freaking out on some helpless kids.""Say one more damn word and see where you'll end up boy."Stop! Why wouldn't her voice come out? "... What- what good is yelling going to do, anyway? If she's not feeling well... yelling will make her worse."The evil man cracked his knuckles, a cruel smile on his face. "I'm about to enjoy this very much.""STOOOPPP!!" Shelly screamed. Something else came out of her as she shouted, directed at both Franklin and the man. Those who understood it would perceive it as some sort of telepathic wave. With a loud thud, the evil man would drop to the ground, unconscious. The person who followed him would be Shelly herself, collapsing out of exertion. In a series of unfortunate events, she would land on top of her image inducer/watch, undoing the illusion. A girl with bright red skin laid down unconscious on the factory's second floor. No doubt causing some disturbance, to say the least. --------------------

"More powerful than Thor, Hulk or the Surfer."------------------------------------------------------ Both the man and Shelly fell down, and the room went silent. But as the latter's true image flickered into view, worried murmurs grew amongst the children. They all stared in horror, almost afraid to react to the strange sight. But then one kid started screaming. And then they all did. Panic suddenly filled the room, and both children and adults dropped their work to run away. Stampeding kids shuffled around the room, towards any exist they could find. Franklin was already acting on instinct. Carefully, he lifted the surprisingly light Shelly and put one of her arms around his shoulder. He wasn't even going to bother waking her up; they needed to get out of here. Hopefully though, she'd wake up and explain what the heck had just happened. He turned back to Klara. No doubt, someone as religious as her would be distrusting of him. His "sister" was probably a demon, in her eyes. Still, he had hoped that she would not be scared. "We're going home," he told her. "If you want to come, follow us to the forest. If not, you can stay here. I-I won't force you to do anything."------------------------------------------------------ "I can do this!"
