It was interesting to watch Johnny's slow reaction to her question. She had noticed Sue disappearing often, but more recently her absences had seemed to Felicia to be constant. It was almost as if she had left entirely. Felicia thought that Reed or the kids or someone would have made a big deal of it if Sue left, so to her mind it had to be a mission. The Fantastic Four was known to do things most of Earth's heroes didn't. She thought that even time travel was an option for this family, though she'd never asked. Still, for Johnny to be in the dark about what was going on with his sister felt odd. Sue and Johnny were close. Surely she wouldn't have left on any extended mission without his knowing?
Johnny seemed to guess what Felicia was thinking by telling her that he didn't think she was on a mission. The Cat's eyebrow rose. She watched Johnny further struggle with words and Felicia knew this was bothering him. He told her what Felicia already knew, that Reed and Sue were having marital problems. Johnny blamed it on the Registration, and she supposed that could be true. Felicia thought there was more to it, however, and considered her own information on the issue. Felicia had watched Sue Storm-Richards leave her home on many occasions. On several occasions, she followed her. Everyone's invisible MILF had gone to the sea every time. Oh, she diverted her path to the entry point she thought was secret, but she always went to the bay in the end and then went for a long swim. Why? Felicia wondered but never asked. She knew everyone was suspicious of her motives for dating Johnny, and more suspicious of her activities when she wasn't on a date. She didn't need their judgment of her following one of them to their covert activities. She hadn't told Johnny because she didn't want to place any doubt in him about her. His unadulterated belief in her was keeping her on the straight and narrow. Her vision slid to Fisk over JOhnny's shoulder. For now.
Felicia reached across the table for Johnny's hand again. "That sounds like a good idea," she said of calling Sue. She squeezed his hand and released. Felicia played with her food using her fork. "Or you could just ambush her when she comes home if we go to your place after dinner." She smiled at Johnny. "Surely, we'll still be up."

Felicia reached over and called his plan a good idea, which wasn’t something he heard every day from those close to him. No big deal most of the time, he had other strengths! But here, he didn’t feel all that deserving of it. He’d left his sister alone because he always thought that she knew better, knew what she was doing. The idea of trying to give -her- advice seemed almost laughable. Reed and Sue were the geniuses, years of following their lead had conditioned Johnny to just stay in his lane. And that lane really didn’t feel like it encompassed trying to have an intervention for his older sister.
But things had gone far enough. The conversation was long overdue, and it was only really that fear that he wouldn’t like the answer that stood between him and closure on all this. He needed to rip the band-aid off. (Which was, ironically, what he’d gotten in trouble for earlier today!)
At Felicia’s suggestion of an impromptu ambush, Johnny laughed. Part of that scenario was a lot more fun to think about than the rest of it, but he gave it some consideration. ”Hard to imagine us just taking a time-out when we hear the elevator doors open out in the hallway,” he mused aloud. ”And I would have figured you’d want to be as far away as possible for a conversation like that. Not to say I wouldn’t love the backup, just surprised you’d be willing to be in the same zip code as something that awkward.”
Not too long after that, the server came to ask about dessert. Before the duo could give their answers however, there was a bit of light commotion on the far end of the restaurant. Johnny turned to look in that direction, and it wasn’t hard to identify the source. Several men had entered the restaurant with the subtlety of a brick through the window. One or two were smoking, most had tattoos, and scars were abundant. They didn’t look all too concerned with the unspoken dress code, either. The last man to enter towered above them all in both stature and power. He had bone-white skin, razor-sharp teeth, and was built like a brick shithouse.
Lonnie Lincoln—Tombstone—was here.
Fisk seemed neither surprised nor intimidated, unlike the patrons near the front of the restaurant. Many of them hastily abandoned their tables and had their seats quickly filled by Tombstone’s henchmen. Lincoln, however, made his way to Fisk’s table and took a seat. The city’s two most ruthless and notorious crime bosses had picked this restaurant, this night, for business.

Felicia gave Johnny a wry smile in answer to his assumption that she wouldn't want to be around for his conversation with Sue. "Same zip code," she confirmed and added, "not the same room."
The couple went on to enjoy their entrees in that blissful kind of camaraderie so common between lovers. The conversation remained light and the flirtations remained constant. They completed their main course and were awaiting the server to return to gather their plates. Felicia had a fun little quip in mind for when the server asked if they wanted dessert. Unfortunately, when the waitress arrived and started to speak, they were interrupted by newcomers to the restaurant causing a ruckus. Felicia felt a scowl crossing her face, a scowl that only deepened when Tombstone entered the room.
"Of all the restaurants in the world," she mumbled. Her disgust was palpable. Her curiosity as to what business was being conducted not fifty feet from them may have been masked by her disgust, or maybe not. Johnny was probably the only one in the room who would notice one way or the other. Regardless, the Cat felt the hair on the back of her neck standing at attention for all the wrong reasons and all she really wanted to do was scratch two-someone's eyes out.
"Do you want to go?" she asked Johnny. Felicia was pretty sure an unkept box of kitty litter in a house of thirty cats wouldn't smell as bad as what was about to permeate this room and she'd rather leave before what was bad got worse, even if it meant she wouldn't know what Kingpin and Tombstone were up to. Although, if she could be upwind, it might be worth it.

Johnny Storm was far from an expert on the criminal underworld. Most of his understanding of the players in New York’s dark corners came from listening to his girlfriend’s daring stories when conversations wandered towards past adventures. But even his piecemeal knowledge was enough to recognize the big man that walked into the restaurant like he owned the place. Tombstone: Ruthless, sadistic, ambitious…intense. A guy with enough bodies in his wake to earn his name a hundred times over. Not quite as subtle as Fisk, but no less dangerous.
The waitress quickly excused herself to go into the back, and Johnny tore his eyes from the pair of crime bosses and quickly looked back towards the Black Cat. He wasn’t sure he’d ever seen a look that intense on her face. He could read the revulsion at this new turn of events, but there was something else beneath it that he couldn’t quite pin down. Gears were turning, but towards what? An escape plan? Which wallet would be the bigger prize? The arteries most susceptible to claws?
She beat him to the obvious question, and Johnny nodded in agreement. Yeah. I promised someone I’d stay out of trouble,” he said, unable to resist a little banter even in a situation like this. It was often involuntary, but he found that sometimes it helped eased the minds of those around him in tense situations. Johnny reached into his pocket for his wallet and left enough money and then some under one of the glasses. No time to wait for the check, and even less time to try and calculate it to the cent.
”No way we get out the front clean.” Taking Felicia’s hand, he led them through the same door that the waitress had gone through, eventually bringing them into a large kitchen with another door on the far side. The staff back there looked a bit angry at the intrusion, but Johnny and Felicia’s server waved a hand to silence her colleagues and then gestured towards the far door. The night’s true hero. The pair stepped through and out into the cool night air, into a sort of back loading-area that serviced the restaurant and other attached establishments.
Flanking the back door were two men in suits, though they couldn’t have been more different. The first man looked like he could have been a secret service agent, with neatly trimmed hair and an earpiece. On the other side of the doorway was a man who looked like he chewed cinderblocks for breakfast, with about seven or eight face tattoos crisscrossed with faded claw scars. One of Kingpin’s men, and one of Tombstone’s. They flinched at the sudden opening of the door, but initially relaxed and let the Torch and Cat pass uninhibited. They were there to keep people out, not in. At least that was the idea, until Frankie (the guy with scars) piped up.
“Waittaminute, ain’t you the…?” Before he could even finish his own sentence, he started to reach towards the back of his waistband, a quick and easy path to a promotion (and perhaps vengeance) right there in front of him.

She didn't like it, but the Cat determined that sneaking away before any fireworks could explode was more advantageous for the couple. Felicia had plans, after all, and they did not include reopening Johnny's freshly mended wounds - especially not for the likes of Tombstone or Kingpin. Those nasty bastards were really more of a Black Cat problem than a Human Torch problem anyway. Someday she would take them down, but that day was not going to be today. Besides, when she did finagle a way to put their ugly noses in the dirt, she wanted to do it on her own and she wanted them to know it.
Johnny ushered them through the kitchen, much to the chagrin of the cook staff. Their waitress was understanding, however, and motioned them to the exit. When Johnny wasn't looking, Felicia slipped her another hundred. Likely her tip at the table was adequate for their food service, but this was above and beyond and Felicia genuinely appreciated the waitress's insight into the situation. The Cat was nothing if not generous to those whom she perceived as allies. Also, that poor woman was going to have to stay and watch the villains within play with their food. The Cat hoped for the woman's sake that they only destroyed the patrons' appetites.
Outside, the couple were met by the startled glances of henchmen unaccustomed to being surprised. At first, they appeared not to recognize either of them, but just before they cleared the men and made it to the mouth of the alley, one of them started getting ideas. Felicia had not allowed them to leave her peripheral vision as Johnny led her out, so she was well aware that the man was reaching for his weapon while starting to speak his revelation. None too happy was the kitten in street clothing as she tugged on Johnny's hand to alert him then released it the same instant and ducked sideways to the dumpster against the wall. Using it as an insta-cover, the Cat began pushing it backward into the alley. Felicia used her forward motion to take her into a flip over the corner of the dumpster. Her boots landed right into the face of the henchman who had been reaching for his weapon.
The noise and motion of the dumpster had alerted the others, but as Felicia landed on the bad guy with worse ideas, she met them all dead in the eye. She knew Johnny had her back, so without even looking his way the Cat stood up slowly from her landing position. "Boys, I'm sure you'd all love to play with the Black Cat, but I'm afraid she's a little busy tonight and was just leaving. Perhaps you'd prefer to wait for another evening when your bosses aren't expecting you to be watching the door for interruptions?" Her eyes flicked to the apparent leader and she shrugged in obvious confidence. "If not, well, my boyfriend tends to get a little hotheaded when you play with me without my consent. So, I can't guarantee that you won't be the ones served up as the next roasted delicacy at this fine establishment... Unless, that is, you can see your way to let us go home and mind our own business."

There were a lot of reasons why the Human Torch and the Black Cat made a good pair. Some of them were fun reasons, others were practical, but the one that mattered most in the current moment was that Felicia had a knack for seeing things that Johnny didn’t. The unlit Torch had led them on a swift restaurant escape and had been pretty sure they were home free once they got past the guards, but Felicia’s danger-sense (a more natural one than her exes possessed) and keen attention to detail meant that she knew what was about to happen before things could go bad.
Johnny was only slightly caught off guard by the tug of the hand, he spun around quickly to face the men that they had just passed. His eyes widened as he realized the brutish-looking man was reaching for his gun, and muscle memory kicked into gear, ready to transform Felicia’s hot date into a hotter hero. ”Fla-” Before he could even finish the single-syllable word, Felicia leapt into action. His surprisingly strong lover made expert use of a dumpster and then less-surprisingly short work of the aspiring gunman. Watching you kick dudes in the face never will -never- get old.
The scene outside immediately became a standoff, as the remaining goons froze in place. Each was weighing the benefits of trying to cage the Black Cat against the odds of getting laid out by the city’s most dangerous woman. Her barbed monologue only reinforced those worries, and the remaining guards did not seem eager to try their luck. Johnny took a few steps forward when his name was called, giving the group a grin and a casual wave when Felicia invoked his presence. As his hand raised to give that greeting it ignited, his wave leaving a trail of fire until he doused it to cross his arms.
”Trust me, listening to her is the best move you can make. Miami Ink over there was bigger and bolder than the rest of you, and look where that got him.” Two of the men glanced towards each other, and apparently found no spark of bravery in the eyes of their fellow henchman. ”C’mon, babe. They’ve gotta come up with a story about where those seven-hundred-dollar bootprints came from,” he mused, holding out his hand towards Felicia, ready to depart. He left the thugs with one final warning before they finished their getaway: ”Following us would be a bad idea, unless you like the idea of having every hair on your body catch fire. And I promise, I do mean all of them.”
Once they were free and clear, Johnny seemed to be in good spirits. He liked when the good guys got a chance to remind the bad guys that they’d chosen their professions poorly. He especially liked watching his bombshell lover be the one to do it. The icing on this particular cake was that they’d managed to get out of all of that without Johnny having to break his promise to her. ”As cool as that was.. I’m sorry that our night went so sideways. Anything I can do to make it up to you?”

It was a relief when the thugs determined it was in their best interest not to pursue a fight tonight. Felicia really did like her jacket, after all, and it would have cost a small fortune to replace. Not that it couldn't be done, but damn it would be a pain in the backside! She attributed this success to the man walking at her side. Few thugs wouldn't have jumped at the chance to, well, jump her. But the idea of losing one's eyebrows often caught the attention of even the heartiest of idiots-for-hire.
They were well away before Johnny dared to assume they could breathe. It was wise, of course, and Felicia appreciated the caution as much as she appreciated his backup. She snuggled in closer against his side as they walked, lacing her fingers between his and hugging his arm. "You really are my hero," she grinned. His offer of making the evening up to her wasn't lost on the kitten, but she doubted she had to say much to invoke the smoldering thoughts that already lingered between them.
"Let's just go to my place," she replied. Her lip ticked up on one side and the Cat turned, gracefully leaping onto Johnny with a modicum of care not to reopen his stitches. She wrapped her legs around him snugly to keep herself steady and planted a kiss on his lips. "If you get us there quickly, I'll show you all the ways that things 'going sideways' can be a benefit." She kissed him again, this time with more promise. "I'll send someone for the car later."
Honestly, a night with Johnny was overdue and it would keep her mind off all the plans she had for King Jerk. She knew she could be queen of his kitchen if she set her mind to it, but right now that wasn't the thrill she was looking for. That could be tomorrow's vision. For tonight, there was only one New York gem she had her heart set on and she had every intention of claiming it as her own.
