Robbie walked through the entrance with Excalibur, noting the 'OUT OF ORDER' sign on the elevator. He'd picked this building specifically because it was one of the cheapest options with an elevator, for Gabe's sake but it had been broken more often than not since they moved in. Gabe didn't mind going up and down the stairs on his crutches but it annoyed Robbie that they were paying extra for a luxury that didn't even work. Hopefully before long though, it would be a worry of the past. He noted Excalibur's concern and nodded in agreement. Even without the underlying racism, carrying a broadsword into a small apartment complex could attract a lot of unwanted attention. "Luckily no one really seems to come and go at this hour aside from me." He was almost immediately contradicted however as they began walking up the stairs and saw another man on his way down. Robbie furrowed his brow slightly. He'd made a habit of not getting to know his neighbors but still, he didn't recognize this guy and it made him anxious. He tried to quickly pass him on the stairs. "Excuse me."

The whole area seemed quite sketchy, even compared to some of the less pleasant areas of London she'd seen in the past. But it was late in the night and just about completely deserted. As they headed inside though, there was someone else coming down the stairs. Robbie didn't seem to know them, so Excalibur simply kept her lightweight outermost layer gently pulled close to herself, hoping to make her chainmail and weapon less noticeable. Perhaps they were entirely legal, but it would probably cause fuss if a neighbour realised that this 'random kid' was heading back to his apartment with an Avenger. Better to just get past the point where any difficult questions might occur, and get on with the fixing horrible injuries part of the evening.
As the unknown person drew near, Faiza moved over as far as she could to allow him to pass, making sure her blade was not going to cause any problems if this guy was clumsy when passing her. Though what kind of person would pick a fight with someone carrying a sword? That would be... well actually there were many people out there that stupid, she always used to see them on Saturday night in the A&E section of her old hospital...

"Thank you kindly, friend." Ray's x-ray vision could see that the young man letting him through had a friend who was a guised hero; Excalibur was keeping her mail armor and sword hidden from his view which was rather useless given his vision powers. Yet, he was not one for questioning her appearance with this youth. Right now, Point Blank had to finish his job and relax tonight; depending if anyone found out about his work with the snitch in Room X-3. He nodded towards the rather anxious kid with a calm smile in thanks and sped up his walking through the doors outside, whistling nervously as he tried to get out before the Avenger would recognized the rainbow skinned mutant hitman. Ray wasn't looking to fight heroes tonight, not without a shot of tequila and a few buds that is. However, unbeknownst to him; a crumpled paper wad fell to the floor. Said paper wad was the letter sent to him detailing his job by the Kingpin......

As he passed the man, a chill ran down Robbie's spine. Something felt off but then again, lately things always felt off. He decided to ignore it as they traded places on the steps. He'd already climbed too high to notice the paper falling to the floor, in his excitement to get back to his brother. "It's just up here. Sorry about all the stairs, the elevator has been out for a while." Normally he'd have sighed after that remark but it was harder to feel down about things when he was so close to healing Gabe. Looking back over his shoulder at Excalibur, he noticed for the first time the paper on the floor. "Did he drop that?" He wondered out loud.

Faiza stayed a little on edge, something about the man unnerved her. Certainly not his unusual appearance; when you worked with gods and monsters you quickly grew past judging based on looks. Besides, quite a few mutants were forced to live in less pleasant areas purely because of prejudice, so adding to it wouldn't help anyone.
The idle comment from Robbie about the elevator drew a brief smile from her as she quipped back "Yeah, given the one in Big Bang Theory took twelve seasons to get fixed, I guess it's no surprise this one is out of order too. Sadly my powers don't work on lifts, otherwise I'd help with that too."
At the mention of the piece of paper, she glanced down to look at what Robbie seemed to have spotted and shrugged. "I guess so. Littering is common round here, I guess? The streets were not exactly clean, I noticed."
It was quite late and she was far from her most alert, but she stooped to pick up the crumpled ball of paper, throwing it to Robbie as she straightened up again. "I assume you've got a rubbish bin, now let's get inside and do what I came here for."

Ray had made it to the bus stop, he planned on waiting it out before the cops come and jump the bus as the feds arrive at the apartment complex; no shame in waiting amongst the norms until you hightail it. He then made an inventory of everything on his person, standard procedure for hitmen not wanting to attract police attention or leave behind evidence, so far everything was in place. His berreta's were still in one piece, shell casings were in the left pocket, the material taken from the rat was still with him, and finally, the lupara taped to his back was still in one piece. "And that only leaves my cash and..the note?" Ray flipped through his pockets, every inch was dug or shuffled.
"Oh shit, I left the damn letter back in the room....and there's a hero in there as well, sweet @#$%" Ray grumbled as he then shuffled back towards the apartment complex a few steps away, he activated his X-ray vision for the moment and kept his head cool as ever. Better hope those heroes didn't hear the rat or 911, I have to get that note quick and quiet before the heat starts Ray pulled out his berettas and clicked off the safety, just as he reached the complex entrance door.

Robbie caught the ball of paper as it was tossed to him. “Yeah… yeah, I have a garbage.” He turned and started walking up the stairs, his fingers gently uncrumpling the note, out of pure curiosity. Probably just some junkmail. When it unfolded fully, his eyes scanned it briefly and then narrowed. “...What?” He read the job details and froze fully on the stairs. He then realized the sounds of sirens he was hearing weren’t just background noise, they were slowly getting louder. When he heard the creak of the front door opening his head whipped around and when he saw the hitman he shouted “GET DOWN!” as he hurried to round the corner on the stairwell for cover. He hoped Excalibur had quick reflexes. What the heck was up with this night? For reasons both good and bad, it was the craziest night he’d had in the city so far.

"Had everything planned out, pick up the dough from Fisk and now I bungled it. Great, just perfect" Blank snarked as creaked the door ajar slightly, his ears pricked up a few sounds in the distance. Sirens, not horns or fire alarms, police sirens. "Oooohkay then, maybe it's time for a more tactical retreat and junior is calling his little iron lady."
Closing the door. Ray Blank turned to run as he heard the sirens blare louder and the sight of the kid through his mutant vision made him run. Better find somewhere to hide or try to shake off the perps, hell maybe that armored hero back there! yeesh! he picked up pace as he heard other voices behind him. Ray gripped his guns for the chance of the heroine or someone coming behind him. Wilson Fisk would pay him easy for this but to go into hiding, would be hard; maybe ol'Wilson could help him, the merc did owe him one.
Nah, the redhead wouldn't do it after what happened with the mexican wrestler and a bunny suit, nobody would do a solid after that one job.

As quickly as the door had begun to open, it just swung shut again, the criminal hadn’t even entered the building. After a few moments, Robbie sat up and looked sheepishly at the closed door. He apparently had dived for cover for no reason. “Sorry about that…” he dusted himself off a little as he stood up, looking down the stairs at Excalibur. “I figured he’d try and attack but I guess he ran?” He could hear approaching sirens himself, maybe the prospect of dealing with capes AND cops had been too daunting. “Still though…” he looked at the crumpled paper again and frowned. “He’s been up to no good here. Should we go after him or hope the cops can do their job?” he looked at the other hero, unsure what the best course of action would be. He wanted to get home to Gabe but someone had seemingly committed a crime in the building and now they were out on the street, possibly getting away. If he went after him though, he risked blowing his cover. Robbie ground his teeth together in frustration.

Excalibur had been getting relatively relaxed again now that they were off the streets and somewhere unlikely to have any problems arise, but Robbie's warning was still reacted to swiftly enough. One hand moved to draw her sword and the other began to glow with a pale blue light, only for both to return to normal once it became apparent it had been a false alarm. A moment's consideration to her companion's question lead to her shaking her head.
"He'll be out of sight already, and we have no idea which way he went. Best we just get on with why we're here and avoid any more surprises. If Gabe heard your shout he might need reassuring everything's ok, and... if the police are coming this way, someone may have called them. Possibly him? Either way, let's make sure he's ok, and that he stays that way. Or better than ever, in fact. Lead on?..."
Faiza kept half an eye behind her just in case the man that had alarmed Robbie so came back, but with the police sirens growing louder it seemed unlikely. She wasn't keen to leave anyone in unnecessary danger though, so tapped out a warning on her Avengers comm card to Finesse, aware that the Avengers student was still on her way.

Robbie sighed and nodded. He didn’t like letting the man go but Excalibur was right. By now they likely wouldn’t have been able to find him anyway and it would be best to get upstairs to his brother. “It’s just a few stories up.” He beckoned for her to follow and hurried up the stairs, hoping his commotion wouldn’t draw any attention. It was only a minute before they reached the right floor and headed down the hallway to his meager apartment. He unlocked the door and was immediately confronted by his brother when he opened it. “You said you’d be home before now! You’re way late, Robbie!!” His brother’s voice came urgently from the living room. “Yeah, I got caught up in some stuff. Besides, you’re hardly one to talk, you should have been in bed hours ago.” He took his jacket off and hung it on a coat rack by the door as he looked at Excalibur, the Avenger still blocked from his brother’s vision. “Gabe, we have a guest. She’s part of the reason I’m late tonight. I met some of the Avengers.” He stepped out of the way so the other hero could enter.

Up they went, no further interruptions to their arrival at the Reyes' residence. Faiza was keeping an eye out for any more trouble though, since it was clearly the kind of neighbourhood that attracted the attention of professional armed criminals - not something she was all that keen on dealing with given the proximity of a child already in need of healing. But the door was opened peacefully, and after a few moments talking, Robbie seemed to indicate it was time for her entrance.
Excalibur stepped in the door, inclining her head in greeting as she finally saw Gabe. "Heya. I'm Excalibur, and as your brother said, I'm with the Avengers. Pleased to meet you! I don't know if you get many heroes visit here, so if you have any questions you want to ask, feel free to do so."
She'd had a few such encounters with younger people as a hero, largely due to her spare time spent at various hospitals healing the most injured, and then talking with the relieved and sometimes still alarmed families. The children were usually the most accepting, not having learned the harshness of the world yet and therefore lacking the disbelief more typical of adults - looking for the trick, or the hidden cost. As such, she always enjoyed talking to children in such situations, as well as in general. Indeed, part of her usual equipment was a small stash of confectionary for the nicer kids, or to provide an incentive for cooperation with otherwise scary procedures.
Whether he seemed interested in the sword buckled to her waist or not, Faiza would let him bring that up if he wished to talk about it. Not all Americans knew the Arthurian 'myth', she'd already learned. And more than one person had assumed it to be an ordinary sword, or 'just' another magic weapon. To their own cost, in a few cases.

Gabe shook his head at her statement and said “You’re the only hero I’ve met other than Robbie. You’re an Avenger?” Her invitation to ask questions was accepted as he immediately launched into a few more. “Why isn’t Robbie an Avenger?” He suddenly realized he may have outed his brother as a hero, not knowing the circumstances under which Excalibur had come to the apartment. He looked over at Robbie who seemed to immediately read the worried expression on his brother’s face. “It’s fine Gabe, she knows. We drove here in the Hell Charger.” Robbie smiled. “Try to be careful in the future though.” Gabe sighed in relief. “Is that a sword? That’s awesome!” He was staring at the weapon with admiration. He then began piecing things together. “You said you’re Excalibur? Like King Arthur’s sword?” He stared at the weapon with even more awe. Robbie had actually wondered about that himself but had been too sheepish to ask. He’d previously thought it to be a thing purely of myth but it was impossible to rule anything out when he turned into a burning skeleton and drove a car from Hell.

Ah, there was the boundless enthusiasm of youth! It was always a delight to see someone finding wonder in life, to have unrestrained thirst for knowledge. It had been a while since Faiza had found anything as fascinating as that, but she still remembered what it felt like.
The barrage of questions was pretty much as expected, though a few were very different to normal due to their circumstances. She grinned as she began answering them as best she could remember. "Technically, Gabe said nothing about you being a hero, merely asking why you aren't an Avenger. I am not involved in membership issues, but I'd guess that you'd be welcome to join any time you wish to, though I went through a short period with the Avengers Academy due to lack of heroic experience.
And yes, I am known as Excalibur, named for the weapon I carry. And yes, it is the genuine one, confirmed by King Arthur himself - he's doing just fine in 'Otherworld', where a great many creatures thought of as myth live. You are welcome to hold it if you wish, but do not try to draw it from the scabbard. It is lethal to basically everything, beyond even my ability to heal from."
There was the first little hint of what her powers were. Would he pick up on it? This was going to be fun to watch if so. Regardless, she unbuckled her sword belt and held it out in front of her in both hands for him to take if he so desired.

Robbie sighed and said “That’s technically true.” and then smiled at Gabe. “You’re fine this time but only on a technicality.” He raised a finger at his brother who nodded. “I’ll be more careful.” Gabe said “That’s all I ask.” replied Robbie, relaxing again as Faiza briefly explained the hiring process of the Avengers. “Maybe someday, Gabe.” He nodded. “Yeah, right.” Eli’s voice interrupted. “Don’t lie to the kid. You don’t get it both ways.” Robbie grimaced but held his tongue. Even Eli couldn’t ruin this. Gabe being healed would be like a dream come true. He watched as Gabe’s eyes widened at the sword being held out to him. He reached out and touched the hilt, running his hand over it but obediently refraining from drawing it from the scabbard. “Did you have to pull it from a stone?” he asked. The Sword in the Stone was a favourite of his. This time though it was actually Robbie that answered a question. “I think… that’s a different sword if I remember right. Didn’t Excalibur come from the Lady in the Lake? In stories anyway.” He looked to Faiza for confirmation. He still remembered some of the stories from school. Even now as a young adult, he couldn’t help but be enthralled by the real life legend that was in front of him.
