I don't really know why I can't let it go, Why I can't let it go sometimes Caught up in this spider web
The race had been going well and he had been up toward the front, but hung back slightly so he wasn't in first place but still within striking distance. It was a typical runner strategy in order to conserve one's strength through a steady pace, and then kick it into high gear toward the end of the race itself.
Things had been going smoothly so far, and even the race itself was very enjoyable if not a bit short compared to what he would have expected.
It was right when he was nearing the finish line when all hell broke loose. Explosions rocked the area and kept going off, threatening to descend the remaining parts of the race into an all out panic. It wasn't just one giant explosion, but several of them that had a very familiar pattern.
Without hesitation, he abandoned the race and gave a mental command to activate the Iron Spider armor. Using the radar built into the suit, he tried to see if he could identify the electronic signature of any remaining bombs. Even as he allowed the suit to work, he tried to do what he could to help the race participants get to safety. He quickly lifted a barrier and called out to the runners, "Into the building! Take shelter inside and you'll be safe."
If the bombs were all out on the street, the buildings were the safest place for people to go. All he could do was try and usher as many runners and bystanders as possible inside and hope that he could detect and remove any remaining bombs before they exploded.

Jack O'LanternJack O'lantern surprised by Spider-man's appearance, he was expecting Hobgoblin after all no one wants him dead more than him. He was about to lunge towards Spider-man when he was all of the sudden hit in the back with a hard thud, due to his years of training in advanced Aeronomics, he was able to quickly maneuver back on the board in midair after he establish control. "Hahaha...Spider-man you should know better than to go looking for trouble. I hate the Hobgoblin; he framed me... Don't mention that jerk to me." He was about to swing when Spider-man was moving around crazy like normal making it hard for him to be able to get a swing in. He then attempted to grab hold of either Spiderman's leg or arm catching the blow as it came around and following it up with a head butt if successful. He was momentary distracted as a very large explosion went off. He looked down to the right as a large flash of light caught his attention for a second and saw what looked like a demonic ritual in the sewer below the broken-up street. He immediately tried to hit Spider-man within seconds of the large explosion realizing his son was in the area. "NOOOO... What is happening!!! Jay!!" He was about to try and head for his kid. At the finish line all he could see was smoke and carnage. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Scarecrow Scarecrow was doing some lobotomies on some ritual sacrifices in the sewer below with an ice pick as an explosion happens close by. Scarecrow hears the screams; he always enjoys pure fear. He comes out of some devastation caused by one of the blasts looking at people, he then leans backwards and reverse spider craws towards some screaming. "FEAR Me...FEAR ME the screams are music to my ears!!" He releases his pheromones into a crowd of people within a twenty-foot radius as they run towards the building and enter a building. "You are going to die. All of you!!!" He raises his hand as a group of crows carrying a pitchfork enter the area dropping the pitchfork towards the Scarecrow. He twists his head in a weird position as some of the people who just enter the building begin attacking each other in fear. More crows fill the sky circling the area. He stands up with the pitchfork and heads towards the building.

Watching the monstrosity that was Scarecrow emerge from beneath street level was troubling for a number of reasons, but Free Spirit pushed past the anxiety and tried to focus. The crowd was heading in the right direction - indoors - but the villain's fear ability was already having its effect on them.
Engage at range, she thought, and hope those crows don't become more of a problem...
Cathy took off in a sprint, leaping and bounding over pedestrians and debris alike, careful to stay well away from Scarecrow, until she was able to heft one of the broken pipe pieces that littered the area as a result of the explosions. She cartwheeled into a roll until her momentum brought her up behind a parked truck.
Deep breath... calm.... GO!
Vaulting over the vehicle, she ran full tilt for the villain. Drawing her arm way back, she leapt in the air, twisting her body and using that force to hurl the bat-sized metal pipe directly at Scarecrow: "Hey, Strawman-" she shouted, "CATCH!"
Not losing a moment, Free Spirit followed through with her acrobatic maneuver and rolled up into a fighting stance. She figured she was just on the edge of his influence...
Probably...
...maybe...
.......I hope.

Spider-Sense and long experience of fighting Jason Macendale - the man behind Jack O'Lantern's mask - warned him in ample time when to corkscrew through the criminal's outstretched arms and through without the villain even getting so much as a fingertip on him. "IT'S - -" began Spider-Man as he used his continued momentum to convert his corkscrew into a somersault once he was clear of Jack's flaming pumpkin helmet and outstretched arms. Through his legs he reached back, tapped twice, and shot a thick strand of webbing that went straight for Jack right in the small of the back. Flipping his feet downwards to touch the rooftop, he reached with his other arm to grab the webbing with both hands and yanked. "- - GOOD!" he finished his quip. Flash would be proud. Probably wished he could toss me in a perfect spiral like that too back in the day. As he thought this, he felt the webbing go taut and used his considerable Spider Strength to attempt to hurl Jack like a frisbee. Jack's momentary distraction cost him. Now was the webslinger's chance to end this quick. He took aim at the rooftop's central air system and hammer tossed Jack right into it. Now! THWIP! THWIP! THWIP! THWIP! THWIP! THWIP!He poured on enough webbing til both shooters clicked and whirred to replace the cartridges with fresh ones. "Stick around, will ya?" said Spidey, making sure to make two more quick web shots at the glider disc so any chance of propulsion was mitigated. He turned around fast and dived off the roof to see a man in rags attempting to spook the civilians and saw with his enhanced Spider-Reflexes that there was... "One of Stark's Iron Spiders... Ugh. I should ask Matt if he has any training as a copyright lawyer..." he muttered with a grunt. He hated the increasing amount of copycat Spider-Men and women running around. He made peace with Ben, Kaine, heck even tolerated Cindy Moon as one of his Defenders teammates. But this was going too far... No time to complain, we got a Wizard of Oz reject here, whom Spider-Man vaguely recognized from somewhere... "Oi! I know the Wizard gave you a brain, but he should have given you a breath mint!" he cried, firing a rapid fire series of impact web shots at the Scarecrow's back before flipping and landing on his feet in his signature crouch atop an abandoned taxi. This was right around the time the costumed character "Free Spirit" came in and flung a metal pipe right at the Scarecrow. Spider-Man winced at the impact in an overdramatic way. Contrary to cartoons and movies, when a steel pipe collides with a dude's head does not actually make a huge "CLINK!" sound when it connects, but more like a very dull "WHUMP." Nevertheless, the sudden impact still gives the same impression. Using that action as yet another distration, Spider-Man reached up to fire a quick web screen net that blocked the entrance to the mall and kept this Scarecrow clown walled off from civilians and now forced to focus on three heroes at once. He had only seen this Iron Spider work once and that was during the hellacious New Year's soiree that involved a Hulk attack and a chase through New York. Free Spirit was an unknown, despite the Captain America connection. Well, Spidey thought, could be worse. Oh yeah, like some weird looking dude in rags making your Spider-Sense blare worse than a high school fire drill wasn't giving you a hint, he thought.

I don't really know why I can't let it go, Why I can't let it go sometimes Caught up in this spider web
The Iron Spider armor alerted the Scarlet Spider to the presence of the substance in the air. Thankfully the armor was filtering it out for him, but it was still reaching the civilians. The only other problem was that the armor couldn't identify what it was, but it was clear that it having an impact along with what looked like a scarecrow reject from Wizard of Oz calling out for the people to fear him and relishing in their screams.
Unfortunately, whatever the substance was seemed to be having an impact on the crowd as they became fearful, and even some started fighting each other to try and get inside. He also noticed the crows overhead, along with the pitchfork they dropped toward the Scarecrow. Not only that, but it looked like that woman he had met earlier along with Spidey was trying to both deal with Scarecrow.
Focusing on the crowd, he tried to move into it to try and break up the fights and get people into the building. Thankfully, the security guards inside saw what was going on and were trying to help usher the crowd in as well and away from the entrance, but it was still slow going since he had to be careful to prevent anyone from getting hurt. "Ignore straw for brains. We won't allow you to be hurt. Just head inside and you'll be safe," he tried to reassure the crowd.

Jack O'LanternJack had tried for Spider-man, but he did a corkscrew into a somersault of some kind just unable to grab him. Moments later Jack went flying back to the building Spider-man was up to something. At this point the large explosion completely distracted him. Jack had been heading in to help his son. Spider-man had outsmarted him, and this was about humiliating as the Bulls eye debacle. He starts melting some webbing with his helmet but not good enough. Spiderman had him stuck pretty good. "Spider-man... not me you fool!!NOOOO...save my son from this. Oh, that Scarecrow guy over there is going to be dead. Jay!! If only I get out of this. "Jacks' robot cat comes over and looks at him. The cat speaks, "How pathetic!!" He begins to cut the webbing about a few minutes later Jack still in webbing falls off the opposite side of the building because of the cat. The cat flicks him off as he is falling now and says, "Pathetic!! there I helped you." Jack falls off the other side off the building the impact onto the ground knocks him out cold. "Yes, free me cat. NOOOO... you peace of jun...!!"------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Scarecrow"The screams music to my ears. Out of my way trashcan Spider-man or feel my..!!!"Scarecrow was about to send the large flock crows to go through the windows into the building. Just then Scarecrow gets hit with webbing in the back a few times stinging pain, then a large object in the back of the head knocking him forward almost falling over. The flock separated into two smaller flocks one leaving the area. Stunned at first because of the pain, he then gets even more angry. Healing by the fear makes him stronger. He shakes his head and keeps moving forward a few seconds later. A woman yells out for her daughter Amy."Amy, where are you?" They could hear her daughter scream from the back alley for help. A hundred crows encircle her from above. Two crows going for the little girl as she hits down two with a trash can lid. "Fresh meat. Bring it all of you. You are about to see the true meaning of fear. The evil is getting released across the globe and you will all fall with all of humanity!!!"Spider-Man had made a quick web screen. Scarecrow raises his hands up signaling the crows. With only about 300 crows left he sends two hundred of them at the building windows on both sides as they dive bomb the windows cracking the windows the first twenty eventually breaking inside but knocking them out or killing them, as twenty lay on the ground the other 180 make their way inside hunting for people. Unfortunately for Scarecrow only two dozen crows out of the 300 were actually trained, the others are only being directed by other crows this would not pose too good for the outcome, but he tried anyway. "Is that all you got, I expected more. Who are you going to save the people inside, even the teenagers trapped over there under the rubble or the sweet little girl? Time is ticking and your time is running out. I don't know who you are woman but Spider-man, you are going to be the next victim. You are about to see the true meaning of fear!!!"Scarecrow picks up the metal object and hurls it at Free Spirit while talking. He begins running at the lady with an intense speed then focusing on Spider-man turning toward him with a very sharp pitchfork in hand lunging at Spider-man after jumping in the air. Scarecrow was trying to hit Spider-man with the razor-sharp pitchfork with two tries.

Guess we're playing catch now, thinks Free Spirit. She plucks the iron bar from its soaring path and redirects its momentum harmlessly out of the way. With Scarecrow so focused on Spider-Man, it was time to address the bystanders.
Free Spirit raced for the alley first, aware that someone there was under assault from the cursed crows. As a wave of the winged menaces meant to divebomb her, she leapt into a somersault and narrowly avoided the attack. "I'm Free Spirit, a friend. You'll be safer under here," she directed Amy and her mother both behind a dumpster where it and the surrounding garbage made a sort of shelter of sorts. "Sorry for the smell!"
Now what? So much chaos, so many people to save. I've never been this-
Cathy caught herself. Clearly, the gas was getting to her.
Take a minute, girl. Center yourself. Panic means adrenaline, and that's something you can use...
1, 2, 3 - Free Spirit vaults up the side of the building and into one of the broken windows. It's not much, but she starts to address those inside and direct them to shore up the openings with furniture or anything else useful. It's not likely to help against the gas but it might keep the crows out long enough for Spidey or someone else to take down the Big Bads...

Spider-Sense had long warned him to get out of the way of the lunging Scarecrow and his pitch fork, but what surprised him was that his Spider-Sense was blaring whenever his body moved anywhere towards the gas. Poison? Had to be. Still, civilians were in danger as the flock of birds made their way towards the windows. Somehow, and Spidey had to figure out how and soon, Scarecrow was controlling them. While some birds died on impact with the windows, others were trying to squeeze their way inside. "Oh boy..." he muttered and while he did use one hand to fire a token burst web to give Scarecrow another blow to the back of the head, he immediately turned his corkscrew, swinging above the lamppost (and away from the gas momentarily) and began firing larger globs of webbing to get as many birds as he could. He saw through the not-so-tinted glass that Tony's little Iron Spider was already trying to calm civilians and keep them back. "I hope he puts that suit to good use..." he said and began trying to pin as many of the remaining birds as possible to the wall of the building. It helped they were clustered together because it meant he could get multiple birds and the webbing gummed up the windows once more and caused chaos.

The ScarecrowScare Crow missed Spider-man then he missed again as Spider-man started taking out the crows. He was hit with a few webs to the back of the head. The crowds were no longer just screaming they were cheering on Spider-man. Scare crow kicks the Lamppost breaking it trying to drop Spider-man to his level. "NOOO... Stop Cheering on him!!!" Scarecrow turns to the emergency and police trying to dig out the teens and the other civilians from the rubble. He focuses on them and begins running towards the Emergency crews. A few human size shadows and a very large shadow emerge into the sky seeming to disappear. Between Free Spirit and the Scarlet Spider-man inside and the one Spider-man outside they managed to take out almost all the crows the remainder escape through a vent in the roof and flee. "They are here now... the world is descending into darkness. Spider-man... Freedom lady the dead shall walk the streets. Vampires and Demons, they are coming and there is nothing you can do... Ohhh look at that!!!" Scarecrow kept getting angry. People are yelling Free spirit and Spider-man driving Scarecrow crazy. He tries to make it to the people trapped when a fire fighter tries to stop him by blocking his pitchfork with his fire axe. He prepares to hurt the firefighter with a punch. "Out of my way!!!"

Things outside seemed to be doing fairly well, thanks to Spider-Man, but even with those blasted crows flying the coup there was still the fear gas wafting through the building. Perhaps not concentrated enough to cause hysteria yet, Free Spirit knew it was only a matter of time. She took her sash and wrapped it around her lower face a couple times, hoping that it would be a decent makeshift filter.
"Ok, folks - listen up!" her muffled voice rang out through the interior. "I know it's hard to stay focused right now but I need for you to start looking for a rear exit to the building!" Free motioned in the direction away from the action out on the street. "A fire exit or large windows we can open. We're safe for now - we'll be safer if we can evacuate the area. Try to stay calm and help each other out!"
Perhaps her bravado at barking orders would make up for her wavering self-confidence. Stepping over a dead crow, continuing to direct the crowd, she added: "The sooner you get to safety, the sooner we can keep beating up the bad guys!"
Some chuckles, a small cheer here and there.
I'll take it...

With the last of the crows contained for the moment, Spider-Man turned his attention to the crowd, and started hearing cheers. That was rare. That was when Scarecrow visibly began to panic. "What do you think this is, Frank Baum? The Emerald City? 'Pay no attention to the man with the webs and the red and blue suit!'"This got a couple of the adults who were in earshot to visibly snort. Well I'm glad somebody got that reference, he thought, and put a hand to his mouth. "Everybody! Keep away from the smoke! If you can back away, cut around the block, nice and slow, EMS can get in!"This, sort of worked. At least half the crowd began to slowly back away and make room as the firefighters were able to get in, masks on their faces ready. He wasn't sure if that would filter this chemical, but the smoke seemed to be blowing east and out. Peter's eyes narrowed at the worst case of millennialism he had seen in ages. It actually stunned him to think some C-lister honestly thought "Look! An obvious distraction!" was going to work! "Soooo you're saying I need a check up with a certain Doctor. Not sure if he takes Walk-ins but Bleecker St's not that far on my way home, so - -" he began calmly and almost pityingly.
This was when the firefighters had surrounded both the Scarecrow and the building to breach and get civilians out and away. This infuriated Scarecrow more. Scarecrow managed to jam his pitchfork into one of the fireman's axes and tried a heavy blow. THWIP!His fist was caught by a webline. Spider-Man tried pulling him back, not entirely sure this guy had super strength cause if he didn't? Any use of force would split him in half from this angle. See, Spider-Man weighed 170lbs after a Cheeseburger and Fries from Five Guys, but superhuman strength when condensed into such a small object and surface area - for instance a webline no more than six inches thick and as durable as tension cables - meant any force applied along that line beyond a certain threshold had diminishing returns, but anything before said threshold? Well... There's a reason the webslinger pulled his punches.

The Scarecrow "Feel the pain. What the..."Scarecrow almost connected with the Firemans face mask when his fist was caught in webbing and pulled back. The force between Spider-man and the Scarecrow was at stalemate for a second with Spider-man seeming about to pull him back almost breaking his hand completely when his hand contorted and slipped out of the glove covered in webbing. Then he gets kicked by the fire chief. "Get the rescuers back. Scarecrow, we can't let you get those kids. I hope Spider-man kicks your ass!!" The fire chief yelled. Almost all the People who were trying to rescue the teens began running in terror some were going into shock with a sensory overload which triggers a panic attack. The Fire fighters almost surrounded him, a couple hit him multiple times. Scarecrow enraged used his pitchfork stick part to forcefully knock the fire fighters out of the way to his left turning quickly and throws the pitchfork at Spider-man with a powerful force. Scarecrow is caught off guard then hit with a full force from the fire hose with all the fireman holding it the water sending him flying backwards into a convenience store nearby right through the window. He stood up with a few chunks of glass bleeding as he rips them out. He pops his shoulder back in place. Scarecrow begins running back towards the firefighters at a super speed around 65mph. Scarecrow then use his speed and strength grabbing and throwing a small car up into the air at the firefighters. The fire fighters were protecting the teens including Jacks son with their uniforms and masks on and not standing down. " You can't stop me. I'm what you fear, in your closet and in your head."---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jack O'Lantern"Jay...Spider-man save my..."
'Get up you coward and run like always'. Jack was in bad shape the voice inside his head was saying run, but he saw his son in danger. He jumped on his mostly destroyed glider with webbing hanging off and took off at Scarecrow crashing him back into the building trying to pin him up against the wall. Hoping to by some time for the heroes to save the kids Scarecrow grabbed the glider and snapped a peace off it was stronger build then he thought. Scarecrow then began kicking Jack in the head denting forcefully his helmet real bad trying to kill him. Jack laid there helpless and unconscious on the verge of death getting up one time missing a punch. Most of the people inside the store ran outside and away and others stuck inside started screaming and having panic attacks as Scarecrow seemed to be at his strongest. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "You're a joke, I will enjoy killing... Aahhhhh!!!"
Scarecrow was trying to find out where Spider-man was and he lost track of Free Spirit also. He went to go in for more kicks when the robot cat jumped on the Scarecrow out of nowhere scratching at his eyes. Scarecrow screams in pain a bit first time he screamed in pain normally was a slight yell. Scarecrows eyes came out almost all the way with some worms, he grabbed the robot cat and destroyed it by bashing in its head. Scarecrow begins to heal almost instantly. Then turns back to go for Jack to finish him off.

I don't really know why I can't let it go, Why I can't let it go sometimes Caught up in this spider web
The moment that the crows came crashing through the windows, he acted . . . he tried to fire as much webbing as he could, hoping to barricade the way and stop as much glass as he could from reaching the civilians. He knew that was going to be impossible, but he had to still try his best to make that happen.
Unfortunately, it wasn't holding up as well as he would have liked as shards of glass tore through, followed by the flock of crows. He was going to have to try another tactic . . . and quickly . . . before any of the crows tried attacking the civilians inside the building. The wounds from the glass could be attended to later by medical personnel, but the birds were a totally different story. They had a mind of their own and would be harder to try and stop.
Giving a mental command, he extended the waldoes on the back of the Iron Spider armor, trying to use those in order to strike as many of the crows as possible . . . but what he really needed was a larger and harder container that he could use to round up or re-direct the birds without them potentially trying to escape.
Moving quickly, he leapt up to the ceiling and opened up one of the panels. It didn't take him long to locate what he was looking for . . . a piece of duct work that shaped like a U. If used with a funnel of some kind, the birds wouldn't be able to get around or avoid it. They'd fly right in and then back out going in the opposite direction.
He disconnected it from the rest of the duct work and thought about the funnel to get the birds into the contraption. That's when he spotted what looked like a cafeteria. Right away, his eyes spotted what he needed and immediately rushed over to grab the oven hood and put both halves together. Granted, it wouldn't do anything for the crows that had already gone past, but it should help to stop the other crows.
Once he had done that, he stepped into the fray and held the device up, hoping to get as many of the other crows as possible to fly through the oven vent hood, up the metal U and back out the top toward the oncoming birds . . .

Now that the civilians had more or less been directed to safety, Free Spirit turned her attention back to the villainy at hand, noticed Scarlet Spider addressing the remaining crows, and thought: ...just how many Spider-Mans are there again?
But it was a rhetorical question. She knew well enough that some mantles were too big for one person to carry alone.
"Ok, Cathy," she mumbled to herself, "...what now?"
The carnage outside was considerable and a bit above her usual pay-grade but that didn't excuse her efforts. Scarecrow was giving a real beatdown to a Jack O'Lantern inside a convenience store, which was a great opportunity to...
Free sprinted for the gathered fire fighters: "Hey! Let them fight each other for a second - let's get these kids out of here!" She pointed at the EMS vehicles that had been on-site for the race. "I bet we can pile into those ambulances. It won't be comfortable but we'll be mobile!"
Her strength was nothing compared to most costumed heroes, but it was more than one might suspect. Carefully, Free began shifting and moving the rubble to release those trapped beneath while some of the firefighters ran off to bring the ambulances around.

Ok, he did have super strength, thought the webslinger as the man managed to break his webline and wheel about. Spider-Sense warned him to get out of the way just in time - but not before tearing his suit at the shoulder. "Hey! Bad form! You'd think with the Halloween getup, you'd understand! These costumes don't sew themselves, you know!"That was when the firefighters seized an - admittedly unorthodox and definitely not regulation idea and blasted Scarecrow straight through a convenience store with enough force to break the plate glass. Spider-Man winced at this before leaping towards the store and leaned his head in upside down. "So it's safe to say you got hosed on this job, Scarecrow. If you only had a brain. Think we should just call it a day and we get some ice cream on your way to Ravencroft?"This was when Scarecrow dashed out, causing Spidey to get his head clear of the window sill and - with difficulty the wallcrawler noticed - watched the Scarecrow clean and press a nearby Elantra over his head not unlike how Spidey himself would need to. "Oh great..." he muttered and with that, leapt as he tried to toss it as if it were a barbell. Getting ahead of it, Spidey planted his feet and caught it. Once again, this was where super strength had diminishing returns. All the weight of the car had to disperse somewhere and since it would not crush the 170lbs red and blue clad superhero with superhuman strength, the front hood of the car crumpled as did the street beneath him roughly an inch radius surrounding his feet. Lovely; let Jameson blame me for the property damage - after - I put this car down! Spider-Man managed to get the car down safely and that was when it all went to hell: The superhero named Free Spirit was directing the firefighters to assist anybody caught up in that last rage of violence, and a familiar flaming pumpkin head had charged in and rushed the Scarecrow in a blind fury... And the Scarecrow had found a way to reverse the surprise attack into a ground and pound. Until a robot cat (one of Jack's trick automatons, no doubt) began mauling the Scarecrow til he managed to subdue that. That was the opening the wallcrawler needed. Leaping high into the air (and out of immediate sight) he began firing a series of complex weblines at multiple trajectories that would criss-cross into a snare before grabbing all the tethers to their anchor point, rolling it into a ball, and then firing a final pair of twin weblines right at the Scarecrow (who had finally managed to get rid of the cat clawing his eyes out and begun healing). "Mouse trap!" he said in his signature quip, and watched the webs do their work as a series of the lines began ensnaring the criminal one-by-one. First he would go upwards, then even if he managed to break free of that, twin lines would be there to stop the descent, then the force of the sudden stop would cause him to run into two more in the back, forcing him to spin like a top. Even if he managed to break those ones, four more would collide with him and tangle him in a net square pattern, which if he managed to break that, he would fall into yet another web that would snag his leg and slam him into the building bricks, right where Spidey would be waiting. Jack would have to wait for now, especially if EMS is on the scene. This ended here and now.
