Ben listened, his jaw set as Carol spoke. She tried to explain the situation, to give her side, and even referred to the Skrull in friendly terms. For half a second he almost thought she was slipping back into the mannerisms and speech patterns of Rogue, her 'hon' comment filled with a bit of southern hospitality that an invader from another world most definitely didn't deserve. Maybe she never recovered from the psychic whammy that was Rogue sapping her powers and making her brain all screwy. Maybe the stress of McKinney has made her snap. Heck, maybe its even some weird crazy Kree stuff going on with her. Who knows, but this, this ain't good, he thought. "You want me to let you have it? To yell and rant about how dumb this was? How dangerous?" he asked. Sighing, he shook his head. "First off, I don't have ta let you know that this is a disaster. Nursing a grudge is sumthin' I can understand. There are times where I wanted to go wallop Doom all on my lonesome or where stuff from my past, like from Yancy Street or issues with Puppet Master was too personal so I tried handling it like the Lone Ranger. We heroic types have a habit of tryin' to be a solo act and think we are some sorta action star straight out of an eighties blockbuster, toughest guy on the scene. But this...this ain't that," Thing said shaking his head. Taking a deep breath he searched for the right words. C'mon Grimm, you ain't Reed or McCoy or once of them fancy smancy talking suits in Washington. Ya can't sugarcoat this and make it sound prettier than it is. And Carol wouldn't want you to,he thought. "I ain't gonna yell and holler and get myself more worked up. 'Cause Carol would know what this is, what it means. This goes beyond just tryin' to handle stuff yer ownself and it is beyond common selfishness. It means colluding with the enemy. It means endangering her friends, her country, and her planet because she up and thought she knew better and that it was her call to make. This is the kinda junk that folks get court martialed for. It's the kinda thing people get locked in a dark hole over. It is just the ammunition that scared civilians and politicians alike need to claim the SRA is not only right, but doesn't go far enough because if a hero and agent of the government can just decide all this stuff without so much as a conversation with others, then maybe we need tighter restraints. Heck maybe the mutants need more restrictions too and if that happens because all this comes to light, then that would be on you," Thing said in as calm a voice as he could manage. Looking at the image on the communicator he shook his head. "I wouldn't have to yell because Carol knows this stuff. 'Sides I ain't convinced. Already had one sad sob story from a Skrull pretending to be a friend for who knows how long, so how am I supposed to believe you are any more the genuine article than she is? Maybe yer just an older, more experienced fake. Maybe this is all a setup to get an agent in somewhere to trigger the next part of the invasion. This here? It ain't a game and it ain't a situation where just 'cause someone may feel bad fer someone else regulations and protocol can be ignored. So maybe you are Carol and maybe you ain't. Whatever this is you could be telling the truth or you could be lying better than a congressman, it don't change what has to be done either way. And whether you are the real thing or not, you have to know how certain founding members of the Avengers are gonna react. It ain't gonna be me who comes after ya either way even if I want to and others, well they ain't nearly as understandin' as I can be."

Carol looked down at then looked back up at Thing there was a look on disgust but it wasn't toward him, but towards herself. “You know what…good! Send Tony and the othahs after me and lock me, Better yet kill me! Maybe it’s what a murdrah like me deserves!” Tears started to fill her eyes. “Thousands died, because of me…because Ah wasn't….Ah wasn't strong enough to fight against The Shadow King’s influence! Somebody has to pay for that….if it can’t be him it might as well be me. So go ahead...TELL TONY IF YOU WANT!!!”
What nobody realized was that in a secret bunker S.H.I.E.L.D deputy director, Phil Coulson was watching this whole conversation unfold. In fact he had seen everything unfold from the word go. They had watched from a distance as Carol and Veranake did the whole switch, and Carol started her whole manhunt, they were willing to let things happen up to a point…but seeing her now, he couldn't help but fear things were getting dangerous for Carol…and not for the reasons Ben was worried about. “Make the call. Now...NOW!!”
A couple of agents dialed into Vera’s cell phone. *Ring Ring* Without thinking Vera picked up her cell phone. “Hello?” “you’re on 4021 N. Parker Ave. Chester’s Grillhouse. We have undercover agents in and out the building. Patch me into Carol’s comlink or I will have you exposed and arrested before you make it to the front door.”
Vera’s eyes widened and she quickly walked back into the bathroom looking at both Ben and Carol. “Uh guys…I think someone wants in on this conversation.”
Vera pressed a few buttons on the comlink and suddenly a holographic image of Coulson appeared and soon. “restaurant staff" started to go into the bathroom with Syringes in hand. In reality, they were undercover S.H.I.E.L.D agents. “Hold out your arm, miss.” Vera, not wanting to cause a ruckus, did so and watched as they seemed to extract blood from her arm. At the bottom of the syringe they turned a nob and she watched as the blood turned from red to green. “She’s a skrull…obviously.” one of the agents said. “But we knew that. Other than that...She’s clean.” Agents then surrounded Carol and did the same to her. However, her blood did not change color. “It’s red. She’s human.” And last but not least was Coulson. His blood was also red. “And you're clean.” Carol and Vera just gave looks of utter confusion. “What the heck was that about?”“Little trick we’ve learned to identify undercover Skrulls. Just wanted to make sure that no one was in on this conversation that shouldn't be, but it looks like everyone is present and accounted for.” “How long ya listening in Phil?” Carol asked. “McKinney we've been keeping tabs on you since McKinney.”
Veranke’s eyes widened. “Wait…you knew?”Coulson smirked. “Since the beginning. And even if we didn't, I still would have figured it out pretty quickly. You’re good, given what Carol went through after Mckinny and the civil war I might have bought your...let's call it your out-of-character portrayal of her, but there was a big flaw in your guise…you speak in Carol’s original Bostonian accent…after her encounter with Rogue, The real Carol talks in a Mississippian accent." Vera’s eyes widened. He was right. She couldn't do a convincing Mississippian accent if her life depended on it so instead of butching an attempt and make it obvious she was. It still felt weird being called out on that fact especially considering no one else seemed to notice or did not think of it as something of concern. Phil continued to talk “The fact is your little Parent Trap stunt put a lot of things at unnecessary risk. we've let this thing go on for as long as we have because we get what Carol and you were trying to but I’m making the call to end this here and now. You’re Highness…You're a Skrull…you're part of an alien race that regardless of their split history with Earth and S.H.I.E.L.D aside, doesn't have a good reputation. You're here masquerading as a top Avengers hero with important information regarding the country and even the planet. Good intentions or not how do you think someone like Tony or Reed would react if they found you out and got to you before we did? Spoiler alert you'd be spending the rest of your life eating grass and giving milk, on top of that Because of the SRA, Carol can technically now be accused of treason for your little stunt and nobody would believe you when you try to explain yours's and Carol's actions. which means she'd spend the rest of her life behind bars if not worse. Your life would be ruined, Carol's life would be ruined and your people would be without a queen to lead them.”At first Vera wanted to protest but she knew she couldn't. He was right on all accounts. She had let her heart get in the way of her head, she tried acting like a queen was was missing a very important key factor….wisdom. She simply nodded. Phil then turned to Carol he opened his mouth to speak but nothing came out. His throat seemed visibly constricted and his lip was quivering. “Carol…I REALLY don’t want to ask this but I know I have to. Are you…….Are you trying to commit suicide?Carol paused. She wanted to deny it. She wanted to swear up and down that this wasn’t the case, but...All she could do was turn her face away, and nod. It was here Phil's composure broke, his expression wasn't of anger and rage. It was grief, sheer grief. “Awww man…Carol…”
Vera was shocked. “You mean...you did this because...you had a death wish? Was that why you gave me all those DNA samples?""Ah...Ah thought you could replace me. Ah figured one way or another Ah was going to stop the Shadow King once and for all or die trying. Even if ah had to let him possess me and go full Binary Overcharge."
A wave of guilt and remorse washed over Vera . "Carol I'm..I'm so sorry. Had I known, I nev would have said yes.”
Phil said quietly. “Carol...nobody worth their salt blames you for Mckinny. Do you understand?”
Carol started to full blown sob. “What kind of Superhero am Ah if Ah hurt more people than Ah save, If Ah’m not even strong enough to fight a mental attack from someone like the shadow king…maybe people are right, maybe Ah should have stayed a part of Rogue…”
She wiped her tears and let out a sigh. “It doesn't matter anymore anyway.” She looked to Phil. “Do what you have to do. Ah won’t fight back.”
Phil nodded to one of the agents “Puts your hands behind your head Ms. Danvers.” Phil then cleared his throat. "CAROL DANVERS: YOU HAVE BEEN FOUND TO BE IN VIOLATION OF THE SUPERHUMAN REGISTRATION ACT PARAGRAPH 9 SECTION 42B. BECAUSE OF YOUR ACTIONS IT IS OF THE OFFICIAL OPINION OF THE STRATEGIC HOMELAND INTERVENTION AND LOGISTICS DIVISION AND THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT THAT YOU AS OF NOW ARE NOT OF SOUND MIND AND ARE EMOTIONALLY COMPROMISED AND BY CONTINUING YOUR DUTIES AS A SUPERHERO YOU ARE A DANGER TO YOURSELF AND OTHERS. THEREFORE BECAUSE OF YOUR VIOLATION OF THE SUPERHUMAN REGISTRATION ACT YOU ARE TO BE SUSPENDED FROM ALL HEROIC DUTIES UNTIL IT IS BELIEVED THAT YOU ARE OF SOBER AND SOUND MIND. EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY.It was here Phil did something hardly anyone superhero or otherwise saw him do, and when it did happen it meant he wasin't messing around and that the situation was beyond serious. He started shouting "In other words, No more! No more going on a suicide hunt for the Shadow King! you're to drop this manhunt come home immediately and take a mandatory Vacation! Travel round, start enjoying life again get some counseling! you're not putting on a suit again until we know your not going to hurt yourself. Fail to comply and we will be forced to detain in a maximum-security prison, this isin't to punish you or to make an example of you...this is for your saftey and well being...IS...THAT....UNDERSTOOD?!?” he took a deep breath...and then his voice began to crack. "Carol...you...you may not realize it but you are one of the major rocks of the avengers....of the superhero community. If you killed yourself. The rest of us would be beside ourselves even if we didn't show it. We'd all be wondering what we did wrong, what we could have done differently. Maybe we don't express it enough, but we love you not just as a hero....we love you as a person."
What scared carol more than anything is that this wasn't anger coming from Phil. This was fear. Like the fear one has when they see their best friend millimeters from pulling the trigger or seeing the cut marks on their wrist for the first time. He was afraid, not for himself but for her, and it caused her to break down again. "But the people who died on my watch. Their families... their friends....they..."
"No Carol, I have to stop you right there. What I'm about to say is going to sound harsh, and it's going to involve some future slang that me and my coworkers have picked up on studying time travel. But there are times and situations where the public needs to be told to shock off and I'm sorry, but Mckinny is one of them! People get angry and scared of the things they can't control and when grief and fear take front row seat in a person's way of thinking they'll take it out on the people who are least deserving of it and do stupid things in the process, you can't let those people define who you are. Mckinny was not on you, and even if it was it wouldn't change the fact that you do everything you can to save as many as you can. If they can't accept that, that's their cross to bear not yours. All you can do is be the best person you can be. Don't let your sole driving force be guilt. We have plenty of heroes out there like that already. You're not one of them, and we don't want you to be one of them. Do you understand?" She nodded. As much as she hated essentially being grounded and put on probation, Considering A. It's a very minor probation all things considered and B. she could have just as easily been sentenced to spend the rest of eternity in federal prison...or worse no longer in the land of the living, Phil just saved her bacon in more ways than one and she knew it. “Ah…Ah don’t know what to say. Ah owe you.”Phil took a deep breath closed his eyes and nodded. “You want to pay me back? Find yourself again. I expect you to see you on the first flight to New York...ON A PLANE...AS A PASSENGER...Got it???”"Sir yes sir." He then looked to Vernake. “As for you you're highness. You helped cause this mess so it's on you to fix it. As of now if anyone asks you are Captain Marvel…you wanna prove your a hero? Be responsible and clean up the mess you helped create. After that...we'll cross that bridge when we get there. That understood?" “Yessir. I'll start by trying to fix some of the bridges I've burned.”Phil then looked to Thing. "I guess technically this could be considered an assignment but I'm asking this as a favor. Could you help Carol? Keep an eye on her? I don't care what you do or where you go so long as alcohol is not involved, but I want to make sure someone is with her at all times."

Grimm was flabbergasted. One the one hand Carol Danvers had lied, not just to him or to S.H.I.E.L.D or the Avengers, but to everyone. It was not a small fib or a lie of omission or even something that would just hurt someone's feelings. No this was a lie that endangered her career, her life as a costumed adventurer, national security, and even the world itself. She was gambling everything on a race of aliens that had never been anything but trouble for Earth, not to mention had personally tried to close his baby blues forever on more than one occasion. Maybe she was right, maybe she was wrong, but it hadn't been her call to make. When it came to a species capable of copying shape, powers, and even memories you could never be sure of anything and there was a high probability that she was being played by the Skrull at a time when she was particularly vulnerable. Even if she had been in her right mind, a stunt like this was all the ammunition some folks in government needed to make the SRA even harsher, to maybe outlaw superheroes completely. On the other hand his friend was in bad shape. She was hurting, she was depressed, and from the sounds of it she was damn near suicidal. And nobody, not even him, had caught it. Granted he didn't see her all that often, not between S.H.I.E.L.D missions, adventuring with the Fantastic Four, and trying to have some semblance of a normal life, but still he felt as if he should have known. It was often said that Ben was the Kevin Bacon of the superhero community. Almost everyone had met him, many had team-ups, and if they hadn't they knew someone who did. Still, he hadn't kept up with Danvers. Maybe it was all he'd been going through with the Four being apart or the distractions that came from his anger over the SRA and the Civil War, but he couldn't help but think if he'd been a better friend he would have noticed something. And now she was who knew where, out of reach beyond the image on the communication device, and he had no idea what to say or if it would make a difference. He hadn't been threatening Carol, not about Stark, but it was a warning. Much as he disagreed with the man he knew that Tony was resourceful, determined, and was always jawing on about the future and the big picture. He was not going to be happy and might take drastic action. Given the situation and the position he was in, he almost had to. Before he could say a word though, everything changed in a flash. Phil Coulson seamlessly took control of the situation without even being on the premises. Thing listened, eyes getting wider with each exchange, happy the Deputy-Director seemed able to calm the situation, but uneasy as all get out over the fact that it was being made crystal clear this was not a Stark approved action. In fact, if he had to guess, the Co-Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. was completely out of the loop. Once the fireworks were over, Ben, leaning against the door with his arms crossed, narrowed his eyes at a bar patron who stood wide-eyed at the restroom entrance. "Occupied pal, move along," he said, closing the door once more. Turning to the hologram he scratched his rocky nose and said, "Not bad there Coulson. Ya did good in calming Care Bear down without having her go nuclear. Can't say I get ya, lettin' this go on when you knew fer so long, but there's a reason I'm out here in a restroom with tears in the baby blues and a crushed trash can and you get the office."Sighing he looked at a still present agent and jerked a thumb behind him, despite the fact the agent was most definitely higher ranking. As the agent left, Ben made sure to take the communicator. "Okay Phil, its just you and me now so I'm gonna talk freely. I may not have all the pieces, but all dis is enough fer me to piece together that big stuff is going down. The Skrulls are invading, their leader is a basket case kid, and despite all of it youse guys up there in yer Hellicarriers and flying plastic cars have let it go on. So I get you can't trust folk now, but like Danvers you seem to have a lot of faith in the Emerald Space Elf out there. Enough so that I noticed she wasn't in cuffs as she left. Which tells me to have more faith in her than either of S.H.I.E.L.D's directors. Now I don't know about Ms. Hill, but Tony? Assumin' he ain't a Skrull when he finds out about this there's gonna be all kinds of hell to pay. And if he is a Skrull, then when it finds out there's gonna be another kind of hell to pay," he said. "That said, ya want me to play babysitter when there is a freakin' alien invasion happening? You do know I've squared off against those jabronis more than anyone you got on staff and I ain't exactly Oprah makin' everyone feel all warm and fuzzy. So what gives?"

"I shouldn't have," Phil admitted. "I trusted Carol to know what she was doing, and it didn't occur to me...I just...I didn't see it even when all the signs were obvious in hindsight."he sighed. "Well that's part of the problem. We don't think she is part of the invasion. I can't say whether her claims of being the granddaughter of George Washington or her Dad being Davy Crocket are true, but everything she said regarding the Skrull's history with earth and the religious war between the Dard'van and the Illum'inati checks out. I guess I owe my great-uncle an apology. The Skrulls themselves have been involved with S.H.I.E.L.D since the beginning. What makes matters worse is it's not as easy as simply trying to figure out who's a skrull and who's not because many skrulls are loyal to Earth while many humans...ones in very high places are part of the Illum'inati. We've found some sleeper agents disguised as heroes we've managed to revive but whatever process they went through to disguise themselves it worked a little too well. As far as they knew they were the real heroes and even after the revelation of what they truly were they still view themselves as being with us. On one hand that's a good thing as that means we have more allies that the Illum'inati don't but on the other hand they don't know a thing that could help us discover who is the one leading the operation. As for my whole doing things behind Stark's back routine, The reality is I don't trust Tony or any of the Illuminati Stark,Reed, Strange, Namor they all could be compromised, even if they are not a Skrulls which I don't know for sure everything just seems to conviant. The government takes the original bare bones idea of Heroes working with the government and twist it in such a way that pratically neuters heroes to stop any threats without crossing all kinds of red tape, just as a group of Skrull terrorist is setting up for an invasion and Tony is put in a position that allows him to enforce and oversee everything? I'm beginning to sound like my granduncle I know but for all we know maybe he got swapped maybe the Skrulls showed him somthing and he's working with them because he thinks it's a better alternative to whatever they might have showed him same with the others, and if they find out we could be well for lack of a better term toast. I'll be honest. I don't even know for 100% sure if Vernake can be trusted or even you for that matter but people I work with and have trusted for years vouch for her. and your about as close to a brick wall as they come. *Sigh* I'm flying blind. I'm having to do something I hate doing and that's making a leap of faith. Never would have dreamed I'd see the day where I'd be trusting a Skrull princess over some of the heroes I consider friends but....then again I never would have imagined any of them going with the Registration Act... I don't know Ben. I'm having to trust my gut and my gut says we were all played from the word go, but the question is who all is involved how deeply are they involved and if it's as bad as I think it is, we're talking about a global conspiracy, a Secret Invasion decades if not centuries in the making, government institutions compromised on a global scale for decades... the US, France The EU, Russia, China huge swaths of SHIELD, the whole **** United Nations! Even if we do stop the Ilum'anati we're talking social upheaval not seen since the world wars or the fall of Rome, we're talking the kind of upheaval that brings about revolutions that tear down and rebuild governments and and redraws boarders...and again that's if we succeed in repelling them back that's the BEST-CASE scenario! If we lose then we get conquered...game over...it's just...argh!"Phil rubbed his head. He was normally the one who always had a spark of hope. Except now he didn't have the answers OR a spark of hope...and he HATED it. Not only were a good chunk of conspiracies about a New World Order ran by reptilian humanoids in fact true, but everything was coming to a head as he spoke, and the ones Phil would look up to to put everything right, were divided perhaps even conquered. in case things were about to get a whole lot worse before they got better....if they got better. "As for Carol, right now she doesn't need Oprah Winfrey or someone who can bust heads. She needs someone who can be a friend to or better yet a big brother type and just about every hero i've talked to praises you as such...and look I wasn't going to say this while Carol was around because I don't want her out looking for trouble, but if you see something going down whether it's the Skrulls or something else we're not going to arrest you for suiting up and doing somthing. I just don't want Carol looking for trouble."

Ben sighed. As if worrying about how things were with the Four wasn't wearing on him enough, now there was this. Yowza! A whole alien invasion, some freaky Invasion of the Body Snatchers type stuff, and here I am playin' at being Mr. Superspy. I only agreed to work fer S.H.I.E.L.D. so I could still do some good while Reed gets his act together and so that I knew I was clobbering bad guys that had it coming and not some kids who just found out they got abilities. And now? Can't trust friends or family on da off chance they are some of those wrinkly chinned creeps and to top it all off, I gots to balance the fact that folk who are technically my bosses are busy working against one another when either side could be sumthin' other than what they seem! he thought. "Dats a heavy burden ta bear and I'm glad I ain't the one havin' ta do it," he said. "I spose I can keep an eye on her for awhile. Not sure I can keep her from gettin' involved if little green jerks start dropping out the sky looking fer us to take 'em to our leaders, but I can always take some time off and hang around Alicia's for a bit. A chance of scenery and a couple of shopping trips may help get her mind off the worst of it. Maybe keep her from doing anything that will get her hurt or make the news, but there's only so much I can do. Never tellin' when Reed or Matchstick may give me a call that I have ta answer. Not dat they have been type to stay in touch lately."And if I do, how can I be sure it's even really them? he wondered. "But what happens when Stark finds out? Because he's him and he most definitely will. Assumin' he don't already have everyone bugged with his cweird microscopic machines. Best case scenario he's a Skrull and we can just knock him on his backside and toss 'em in a cell. Worst case? He decides to bring the lot of us up on treason. And as fer Carebear? This is the type of situation he may use to revoke her Avenger's membership. Whatever happens he ain't gonna be happy and we can't afford to have any more fightin' amongst us super sorts. Not with a war ta fight against these space creeps."Shoulders slumping he somehow managed to look tired, despite his rocky visage. "Makes me miss the old days of givin' Galactus wedgies and turnin' Mole Man and his goons into real life whack amole machines."

"I have the authority to enforce the SRA in the case of concern that government bodies may be compromised... you can't get much more compromised than a group of religious extremists taking hold of key government figures. So, Carol has been temporarily put on mandatory leave, case closed but, Stark is...well he's Stark. If I have to I can...I make a case that he's potentially compromised but that would require me to point out that the SRA itself was potentially authorized by foreign infiltrators and that would reveal that traitors have control of the American government. It's a domino effect. Yes I could just as easily arrest him for treason as he could us but it could potentially cause of a government collapse as a result.... Mutually Assured Destruction: Government edition." he growled slightly. his voice sounded clearly exasperated. "What I need is for Stark to stop being stark for like 5 minutes so that we can explain the situation. We're all on the same team ***BLEEP BLEEP!*** and yet it seems like the Skrull doppelgangers are acting more like the Avengers than the actually Avengers right now! Politics, cloak, and dagger bullcrap arresting each other ***BLEEP BLEEP BLEEP!* *pant pant* Pardon my language."
Phil sighed
"Yeah...I wish it was back to that too. There's enough threats up above and down below, there is NO REASON why we should be fighting each other and that's not even including the freaking multiverse for crying out loud!" "Since I'm bearing my soul hear I guess I might as well come clean and be as honest as possible. Stark once asked me if I thought he should have told the government to sit and spin. I said no outloud but yeah in all reality I think he should have. We should have all united and told them no. I mean I get it we don't want to be above the average joe. The problem is a person is smart, but people are stupid. They'll believe whatever those in authority tell them to believe and people change thier opinions like socks until they actually have skin in the game. Everyone was for the SRA until they actually saw it implemented and got Hellzone as a result. You know before the SRA was passed I remember Senator Lieber made one final speech expressing his disapproval of the SRA he said: A superhero is a person who does heroic deeds and has the ability to do them in a way that a normal person couldn’t. A definition of a hero is someone who is concerned about other people’s well-being, and will go out of his or her way to help them—even if there is no chance of a reward. That person who helps others simply because it should or must be done, and because it is the right thing to do, is indeed without a doubt, a real superhero. (OOC note: Direct quote from Stan Lee) They don't need to be controled or held by a leash, because they can be trusted to do the right thing. Sure they will make mistakes, but at the point we weaponize them, at the point we've lost that belief we once had as children that heroes can and do exist, at the point we need to look within ourselves, and we need to ask...why?" (OOC Note: An imitation of Stan Lee based on past quotes.)"

Grimm listened as Coulson spoke and had to fight the urge to nod along. His concerns mirrored his own and his words were like a less profanity filled version of what he'd said when the SRA was first announced.
"Won't get an argument from me. I mean this whole deal divided the family. Sue took a break from Reed, Johnny was spending more time with his gal pal despite folks having reservations about her habit of, uh, let's call it relieving strangers of their valuables, and me, well dat's why I'm working fer the this alphabet soup agency. The Four haven't been in the same room since before...Suzie," he said, eyes close to watering.
Sighing he added, "The whole savin' the world stuff was more rewarding with the family. Not dat you spy sorts ain't important, but I'm not cut out fer all the sneaky stuff and red-tape. I tried explaining to Stretcho we have the luxury of our accident being public knowledge. Cap was a legend before he hot defrosted. Stark has more money than God and an ego that needs boostin' every now and then. But guys like the wall crawlers, old Hornhead, and kids just getting started? They don't need no one,'specially Uncle Sam knowing who they are behind the masks or telling them when and where they are allowed to help people."
All of this is nuts. We've got a freakin' alien invasion happening and we still gotta walk on eggshells to avoid duking it out with each other, he thought.
"Anyway I have no problem looking after Carol fer a bit. She probably needed a pal to talk with after the Texas incident, so better late than never. Maybe she and Alicia will get on too. But I hope you can manage the boss man, 'cause I can clobber the best of 'em, but if Tony comes looking fer a heart to heart with Care Bear I can't predict how it will go down. I don't know how to quit, but he's a genius. Maybe he's got a buster suit fer Ol'Blue Eyes. Point is, maybe we should arrange fer the two of 'em to chit-chat before he gets the news from someone else?"

Phil bit his tongue at the mention of Sue but not for the reason Thing would have assumed. In truth the Sue Storm that died in the explosion accident was not actually Sue storm at all, but rather a skrull, and do to some of SHIELD's special tech they were able to revive her so she wasn't exactly dead anymore. Of course, they had to depower her, the last thing they wanted was unaccounted-for Super Skrulls running around, and of course she was unable to tell them exactly Jack-Squat. She had suffered from Ge’hadar like seemingly all the other dead super skrulls that they had revived and depowered. As far as the Super Skrull knew she was Sue Storm Body mind and soul just a skrull version of her. S.H.I.E.L.D. had nothing, not even the location of THIER Susan Storm. She was captured somewhere alive in a Skrull facility, but you didn't exactly need to interrogate a former super Skrull to come to that conclusion.
*Should I tell him...no he's already spooked and probably seen enough Skrulls today as it is. Plus hearing Susan's voice come out of a Skrull's mouth even a friendly one is likely to set Ben off. He can have a temper that rivals Bruce under the right circumstances. Still, I need to pass Ben that Message that Skrull Sue wanted him to have.*
"Uh speaking of Sue, she told me to give you a message but she said don't listen to it until after "Everything has settled. I don't know if she somehow learned about the invasion or if she was talking about the SRA. I'm sure she would have told you in person if she could."
inside Phil was mentally kicking himself. Ironic, the super spy loathed lying, especially to his fellow superhero friends.
*Father forgive me for I have sinned. Sorry Ben...if we manage to get through this you have full permission to punch me in the face...though I'll be making sure to get some armor on.*
"Trust me I've seen Uncle Sam behind the curtain and all of the other governments in the world, trust me you don't want them controlling supers. Most politicians are like Fisk. Many are worse if you can believe it. As far as Stark and Carol goes *sigh* If you think that's what need to happen I'll have some of the agents contact him and set up the meaning. But if he tries to pull anything We're intervening. Contrary to what he may think, We have tricks up our sleaves even for people like him."
