"Well technically Carol isn't my sister by blood but since the Shadowbird is bonded with her I guess she is my sister in a deeper level...I guess you can call it a spiritual level? As far as you freshening up, I have no objections at all."
Phoenix gently held her hands. "It's an instantaneous trip. It's not painful or anything. Just a wall of flame around us. it's not really all that different than going through a portal. Okay? Here we go. One...Two...Three..." WOOSH!!!
McKinney, Texas
True to Jean's word the two instantaneously appeared before a luxurious mansion in Mckinny Texas, or at least what was being built after the destruction of the city during the Mckinney Flood. in the distance was a very massive and elaborate temple built ontop the ruins of where the Mckinny Dam once stood. the Temple was made in memorial to the to the thousand that died during the flood, it was 400 ft tall and 265 ft wide it was built from pieces of the dam itself and overlaid in pure gold. If it wasin't for the inscription above calling it "The Mckinney Memorial" one would be forgiven for thinking it was some kind of religious temple. tehousands of people could be seen gathering around paying thier repsects to the fallen. "That was Carol's idea," Jean said pointing to the temple. "She wanted to make sure what happened was never forgotten. I provided the gold and helped her build it along with some volunteers. It took us a week. It may not seem like a long time but it'd be the equvilant of a normal human spending several lifetimes to insure it was perfect."Jean led Jade to the steps of the mansion and knocked on the door. Carol Danvers came out in a royal purple dress. bonified with some elaborate jelwry. This was the first time Jean had seen Carol since building the temple and the obvious if being influences of the Shadow King were already starting to show. Carol beamed as she saw Jean. "Well, Ah Declare!" she shouted in a very jovial tone. "Good to see you again Jean!"Jean giggled. "Nice to see you too again Carol, are you busy?""Not at all! I was just preparen a party for Superbowl Sunday. You know me. Ah always like to throw a good party.""Yeah looks like you won't miss out on a feast either." Jean giggled.
Carol giggled and blushed looking down at her very hefty frame. Ever since being possesed by the shadow king Carol had balloned over three times her orginal size and even gained stature of about 6 in making her about 6'5. "So...I might have gotten just a little growth spurt. haha."
"Yeah the Shadow King has a way of doing that to all of his host. Karma can attest to that."
*Hey is it my fault I am a man of great appities? I didn't exacly object at any point Ms Danvers.* The Shadow King interjected telpathically. Jean grinned.
*Hello Shadowbird.*
that seemed to cause a reaction. *King, KING, I am the Shadow KING*
Carol couldn't help but grin and rolled her eyes. Yeah she could totally buy these two were siblings in a former life. She then noticed Jade for the first time. "Well hello there Sugah. Jean who's this pretty little thing you got with ya?"
"She is the reason why we are here. Carol this is Jade, Jade this is Carol Danvers former Avenger and member of the US Air Force.""The pleasure is mine." Carol said offering a hand. "Don't let mah appearance fool you Sugah, ah may look like a priss (Translation someone who looks overly prim and proper to the point of looking fragile) but I can still hit hard and get my hands dirty when duty calls."She actually wasn't lying. underneath that girth was a solid wall of muscle much like is the case with Wison Fisk, AKA: The Kingpin.

Jade for no explained reason in the short time of knowing Phoenix had grown to trust her. There was just something about her that made Jade feel whole despite the darkness within that made her feel hollow. Jade felt her body go through an all too familiar feeling as they were engulfed by the flames and brought to what she could only describe as a place of pure opulence.
Phoenix pointed out a gold memorial in the background that looked as though it was out of place as if it belonged in an ancient world with worshippers for a god or goddess. Jade was intrigued by the immensity of it. The intrigue almost eclipsed her feelings for the Mansion that stood before her. How was it even possible anyone could afford this homes, was something all of her life Jade had wondered. Her only experience of being in the presence of something this bold was during her times when she needed money and she would clean the homes of the “posh” as she had called those living inside.
The temple gave Jade the sense of sadness and sorrow like a great intense tragedy had taken place. The house made her feel as though someone was sending a message of power. In Jades world everything had balance and this landscape was no different.
Jades mind drifted back to listen to the conversation between Carol and Phoenix. Jade couldn’t help but be taken back by Carols form. Her beauty and elegance was inspiring. Jade could sense the power that exuded from her, not from an ability of magic more so because Jade was just naturally very intuitive.
Shadow in the moment the awoke, sensing Shadow King and reacting. She echoed in Jades mind “where have you brought me?!” Jade was use to Shadow periodically waking up, but the alarm to Shadows voice Jade had only heard two other times. Shadow settled back down and spoke again to Jade.
“You fool, this is why I should always lead.”
Jade didn’t say anything back to Shadow, knowing her silence would be enough of an answer. Shadow grumbled slightly returning to the darker parts of Jades mind.
Jade didn’t need to remind shadow that the day light hours were her time. Jade also was the primary person meaning even in the darkest of night Jade was always in control.
The drawling voice with a sweet tone interrupted the battle within as Jade unintentionally brushed her hand with Phoenix. There was still something very comforting about Phoenix it lulled Jade to trust her, even with her turmoil within.
Jades Emerald Green eyes met with Carols as she put on her best Louisiana smile. It was the closest to southern anything Jade understood. She had grown up in New Orleans as part of the Treme district.
Jade snickered at the comment about appearances as she understood all too well how one should not be judged by their appearance. She appeared small in stature being only 5’2 but her fierceness and might were something to contend with. Shadow just added and enhanced it all making Jade that much more powerful.
Jade spoke and as she was speaking her eyes fell upon the out stretched hand.
“Yes ma’m my name is Jade and this here Phoenix brought me here…”
Her voice trailed off for a moment Jade was conflicted as to what to do on one very real hand she wanted to give Carol respect and shake her hand, but on the other Jade knew the consequences of touching anyone. It meant like with Phoenix they would share a connection, one Jade tried not to share with anyone. She didn’t like the idea of her dream walking or even Shadows corruption adversely affecting anyone.
Jade was now realizing it was entirely too long Carols hand was hanging in the air. Jade inwardly took a deep breath gathering her own strength and energy as she did everything she could to block Carol from her mind. Jade’s body language wouldn’t have shown the struggle within in. As Jade out stretched her hand to shake Carols Shadow woke up again just as her fingers wrapped around Carols hand in a very professional, but friendly hand shake. Shadow echoed again in her mind.
“No…”
It was too late the connection had unintentionally been made. Jade has done well the shield Carol from everything in her mind, but it didn’t stop metaphysical tether to be formed between Carol and Jade, similar to what Phoenix and her shared. Jade was brought back to reality again as she spoke to Carol.
“My pleasure to meet you ma’m. Appreciate you allowing me to visit.”
Jade didn’t quite understand why she had just instinctively fallen back to her Lousianna roots, just did. In this moment she realized Carols hand was now being held for just a bit too long. Jade pulled her hands up to her shoulder straps and awkwardly adjusted the shoulder straps on her backpack.
She took in her surroundings again there was something she couldn’t quite place, it felt calm here. Jade did notice though the sun was starting to hang lower in the sky now, soon it would be Shadows time.

It wasn't a strong one, but the connection was strong enough for Carol and the Shadow King to see the creature that was deep inside Jade's mind. suddenly it made a lot more sense as to why jean and Jade were hear. Looking directly at Shadow The Shadow King showed his astral form and much like how an alpha wolf makes clear his dominance to would be challangers, so was Shadow King attempting to do so with Shadow. "Ï̷̡̛͒̀̈́̚ ̵̳̭͕̂̾̽̈̇̍̓Ś̵̡̨̛̻̻̜̆̈́͑̃̿̽͑͜ͅE̵̤̟͕̔͊E̶͎͍̾͛̓͂̑͊͌͒̕ ̴̧̡̯͓͉̙̙͗̀̚Y̴͉̮͔͓͇̥̰̏͗͌̈̇͆̈́̋̓O̵̱͖͚̻̟͕̳̫͑̑̔̎͗̑̕̕͝Ṷ̶̡̢̨̜̱̹̥̭͆̉̀̇ͅ."he spoke in a deep thunderous voice (al la like Sauron from Lord of the Rings) He expected his message to Shadow to be loud and clear. said message being, We know you're their. We know what you are, and there is nowhere you can go to hide. so it'd be very wise to not mess around and find out. Whether Shadow would hede that warning and tread lightly. He then spoke to carol as Jade was talking, casting a shadowy wall around Caro'l mind to keep Shadow and Jade from reading them. *looks like the poor girl has somthing inside her head that don't belong.* *Ah so you saw it too.* *What are we dealing with Shadow buddy? Demon of some kind obviously, but this sort of thing was Danny and Stephen's expertiese not mine. All Ah know is she's one ugly Motherhubbard* *not a demon exactly but demon like. She's a shadow entity. they latch themselves onto through their trauma leeching and corrupting their chi, their spiritual energy like a parasite until there is nothing left but a empty body for them to possess as their own. Much like what I do...or rather used to. * *so wait, this thing is eating Jade's Soul?**Essentially yes, and if this thing is not revoved it will completly consume her soul. It could take months or even years, but Jade will cease to exist alltogether. It will be as if she had never been born, leaving only this thing in her place.*
Carol mentally winced. That revelation hit very close to home. Sure Rogue was not a demon, and her nearly absorbing Carol was completely by accident, but it didn't change what Carol went through or the permanent effects it had on her. *Still even if this thing does managed to erase Jade and claim her body, she's not a huge threat. She's a barely average sized fish in a very small pound. Any number of superheroes could deal with he easily. Heck I could just eat her essence myself. though she wouldn't be very filling, just an appetizer really. * *appetizer or not she's still a threat to Jade and Ah'll be darned before Ah let some demon creature consume someone's soul. Ah'd say it's lunchtime* *Not quite. This thing is bound tightly to Jade. I guarantee you it's some kind of trauma More than likely this creature has Jade convinced that she's giving Jade power, even though all the entity is doing is just leeching off of hers. If I just straight up eat the enity now, Jade will likely see it as an attack, it can damage her. She has to willingly let the entity go...let her trauma go...then we can eat the enity. * *...sounds like mah relationship with booze to be honest...and Ah bet that's why Jean brought her here.* *Because you've been there no doubt. I have no doubt the creature will come out at night. As soon as it happens We have Jean separate them, She'll probably be a lost and confused so we'll have to guide her back.*
Once Carol heard Jade's native accent she smiled. "You're a New Orleans girl aren't ya? born and raised?"
Carol looked outside and saw the sun setting. They needed to hurry and get inside. if Shadow came out in the open things could get ugly. "Well where are mah manners. ah'm sorry. Come on inside Ah'll have supper made."
Carol brought everone inside to what could only be described as a living room from someone's most opulent (Perhaps even decedent) fantasies. It was a massive living room with marvelous decore a massive upstairs. The room even had a movie theater sized TV screen and even a hot tub.
"it's excessive Ah know." Carol said with a chuckle. "But it's home. Feel free to take off your shoes and get yourself comfortable if you like Jade. No point in building a home like this if no one is willing to act like they live in it."

Jade felt something stronger then shadow enter her mind, it hurt slightly not in a physical level more on a metaphysical level. It had to be the one Phoenix spoke about Shadow bird king, or something. If Jade was being honest with herself the exhaustion she was feeling made it hard to focus and stay strong probably why she couldn’t remember Shadowking’s name. She didn’t want to disrespect the entity, but they had entered her mind scape without permission, which to Jade was a violation of her trust. Something Phoenix wouldn’t have known. The only other person to do that was the serial killer who had held her captive. Jade heard the same words as Shadow “I see you”. Jade was the one who responded her voice level and strong. “No vacancy’s here, not interested in uninvited guests” the words were kind but the strength of Jade was evident, she was most definitely a force to be reckoned with.
Shadow decided in this moment to respond to the one who invaded Jades mind.
“I see you like games, well I can play too. I was never hiding though.”
A dark maniacal laugh could be heard as Jade blocked herself off to Carol and Shadow Bird King. Jade unintentionally though through the tether that was formed left Carol a memory.
‘“The Memory of the worst night of her torture. The ‘Puppet Master’ as he called himself had broken Jade once and for all that night. The Puppet master was a strong telepathic being who had used their ability for dark intentions. They offered her a job in Venice Beach California. Jade didn’t know any better and took the job she was 18 graduated from high school and her family had long since disappeared. When she got there the Puppet Master at first was kind gave her a room in a place to stay, a job performing, which he loved to do. He slowly was taking control over her mind, without her ever knowing. Until it was too late. This night though was the one of his breaking her body, soul, and mind. He made her submissive to him. He would use abilities to make Jade perform her Ariel silk routines, but he wanted more from her tonight at the expense of Jades already worn out and tired body. He would use his telepathy to manipulate her to move her body and contort in ways she had never moved. This time was too far, he had her do a floor routine that the crowd loved. Her ankle rolled and the pain was more intense then any o jury before, but it didn’t matter. The show how to continue, Kade was unable to move as smoothly as he had wanted. The crowd didn’t notice, but he did. When Jade went out back she felt him lead her from the performance tent. In her outfit that was more than a leotard. Jade shivered against the dark night she was being forced to walk through her ankle throbbing her body begging for a break. He lead her into the house she had been staying in, only this time she was forced into the basement. He forced into a room that a door like an old prison cell. “No please no” the fear grew deep in her eyes as she tried to turn, but it was too late the door now locked behind her as he released his hold on her. Jade on the dimly lit room collapsed “no” was all Jade could muster. Her body had been through too much the pain seared through her. Then a familiar face appeared in the doorway. Eric the one the Puppet master had taken care of Jade. Eric was the equivalent to a Zoo Keeper and Jade the animal. He spoke kindly as he unlocked the doors and stepped inside knowing the pose of Jade.
“Jade, it’s going to ok I just gotta make sure you’re ok. Gotta have you at your peek performance level. “
Jade had grown a bond to Eric. The puppet master knew that Eric was under his control, but never told him to help Jade that night and this night he was particularly angry with Jade’s performance. Jade scooted backwards knowing Eric was in danger.
“He won’t want you here Eric please go, he won’t be happy”
Before she could say anymore Eric was dragged out of the cell. Jade curled up into fetal position and cried as she heard the tortured screams of Eric on the background.
It was then her and Shadow became one. Shadow had given her back the key the Puppet master had taken from her and severed the connection between Jade and the serial Killer.
//end memory//
Jade was unaware of the memory sent to Carol as she heard Carol invite them in and say something about someone cooking dinner. Jade smiled at the comment about her being from Louisiana. Her voice was sweet and Kind as she bent down and unlaced her boots and pulled them off to reveal colorfully decorated socks.
“Well not raised entirely in Treme, my family were a bit of … how do you say travelers. I’m actually from Cuba.”
Jade didn’t know why she trusted Carol but she did. As made her way into the living area she spoke to Carol again.
“Thank ya kindly, for hospitality Ma’m”
Jade notice a window out of the corner of her eye as the sun started to hang even lower in the sky. She needed to get some place private soon, in order to keep Shadow from revealing herself too soon. Jade nonchalantly eyed the room looking for a place to go or just disappear to for even just a moment.

Shadow King was visibly confused. He hadn't invaded Jade's mind. Jade invaded him and Carol in when she shook her hand. She did mean for that to happen right...or did she? He then thought about it and a theory came to them, but he didn't want to say anything until Shadow was unable to listen which would be a bit. He and Carol in the meantime observed the memory that Jad had unintentionally given them. Carol was able to keep and outward composure. Inside she was fuming. She watched as the puppetmaster controlled her body keeping true to his namesake and the memory seemed to only get worse from there. Carol wanted to just immediately scoop the poor thing up and practically swaddle her in a warm embrace. but how could she do so while being subtitle? *You forget my dear Carol that I was able to connect to even the likes of Charles Xavier, and Jade has given me a strong enough connection to do just that.
Shadow King helped Carol project herself into Jade's mind. Art by Erkan Onur*Jade, look at me look at me ok? Ah know what it's like. Ah know what it's like when your so thoroughly violated that you completly lose faith in yourself. But believe me...you're stronger than you think you are. I know you've probably heard that a lot but you are....and you're not alone. Come here there is somthing I want to show you.* Mind-Carol embraced Mind-Jade and allowed her to walk through Carol's own memories. Speciffically that of Marcus Immortus. In the mindscape time did not pass and carol used that to do a full walk through memory lane. Carol did not hide anything. She walked Jade through her whole experience with Marcus. How he used supplemental equipment to brainwash her into falling in love with him, how he had raped her, causing her to have an accelerated pregnancy that resulted in her giving birth to him, how he manipulated the avengers in trying to build a machine that would stabilize his rapid aging...she had essentially had an incestious relationship with her own son that she would never have had if she had been lucid. As Carol watched the experience over again for what was now the third time, the anger was still very much there. "Ah was brainwashed and raped, used and defiled and the only one of mah so-called friends that had my back was Clint." That feeling of resentment bubbled up again and any guilt she might have had leaving the Avengers this last time was gone. She chuckled and shook her head. " "Ah was sad when Marcus died and I fully realized what happened...not because Ah loved him, but because Ah wanted to have the pleasure of killing him myself. Him turnung ti dust, just seems like he got the easy way out. Ah joined the X-men for a while and then.... *Sigh* Rogue happened."
She showed Jade that whole instance, how Rogue who was a bad guy at the time absorbed her, trapping her in her mind and downright very nearly absorbed her soul and nearly causing Carol to cease to exist altogether. Carol explained to Jade how she suffered DID that took YEARS to recover from and how she was still dealing with certain effects from it and how it left some scars and effects that would last the rest of her life which was a long time since Carol was functionally immortal. "Contrary to what you might think, Ah'm actually a Bostonian born and raised. The thick Mississippian accent, and Southern Belle charm, weren't mine originally, they belonged to Rogue, Ah can call some of my native accent back but Ah have to really concentrate and think about it. Boston doesn't even feel like home anymore. Ah mean there are worse fates than being a charming country girl, but it doesn't change the fact that Rogue took a part of me that Ah'll never get back....but the thing is your past and what you lost doesn't define you, what you do in the present is what defines you."Mind-Carol bent on one knee so that she was at eye level with Jade as opposed to towering over her. She began talking a completely sincere tone. "look, Ah don't know exactly how you feel, but Ah do know what it's like to be violated, to suffer to be alone...but you're not alone, ya hear me. You're not alone. Ah also get the feeling that as soon as we leave this mindscape and the sun goes down your shadow friend is going to be in the driver seat isn't she? Me and Jean we want to help you get through this...but we want to get to know you, you, you not shadow you. So what we were thinking is this. When we leave the Mindscape, we're going to turn all the lights out, and when Shadow takes control we're going to separate you two. I know that you probably have it to where Shadow is keeping those horrible memories at bay, but Ah promise you Me and Shadow King We'll be right there for ya, but we need you to trust us, please?"

Jade felt the intrusion of her mind again, normally she would had been so angry Shadow would have taken over without effort, but this time felt different it felt like when Phoenix embraced her. It was an alien feeling to Jade, but it wasn’t something she wanted to run away from again.
*Jade, look at me look at me ok? Ah know what it's like. Ah know what it's like when your so thoroughly violated that you completly lose faith in yourself. But believe me...you're stronger than you think you are. I know you've probably heard that a lot but you are....and you're not alone. Come here there is somthing I want to show you.*
The Omni present features of Carol in a different form spoke to Jade. She made the connection that this like Shadows form must have been Shadow Bird Kings form….she really did need to figure out his name again. Jade heard the words that Carol spoke at first she was angered by the invasion but the more Carol spoke the more Jade felt something towards Carol. Her story the trauma she had endeared it was liken to what had happened to her only Carol was different her pain was caused by the one inside her unlike Shadow who had taken Jade away from the torture she was receiving. Jade remembered what Shadow told her in time of trying to out herself back together.
“We evolve through pain.”
Maybe Carol and Phoenix were that next step in evolution. Maybe Jade needed to trust them, she hadn’t trusted anyone in a long time. She heard the story of Rogue and her heart sank deep in her chest. Jade stood in her Astral form and reached out to Carols shoulder. Her words were sincere as she spoke them.
“I’m sorry you experienced those things and went through all that you have. No one should ever go through anything like you have.”
Jade felt different the thought of being a part from Shadow was not something she had pondered. The thought of having people actually knowing her. Jade had been working hard to rebuild herself and life with her shop and being a circus performer she had even made new connections. Carol said something though that hit Jade just right,”your past doesn’t define you.” No her past didn’t define her but if Shadow cousin be contained Shadow would consume every soul on earth. Seeing though the power that Phoenix and Carol had, maybe they could contain Shadow. Jade didn’t know herself anymore just that the memories were more than she could handle. Phoenix had already showed her that Phoenix could at least steady her. Jade inhaled sharply bringing herself to speak to Carol.
“ I haven’t been myself in a very long time, I have seen Phoenix steady me before. I’ll let Shadow free knowing what you have done, I believe you can contain them, but know if Shadow is unleashed on this world the results will be pure tragedy.”
Jade left the mindscape and relaxed herself. As she stood now in the darkness Shadow took control, almost seamlessly. Jade’s glowed a violet hue as Shadow then released itself from her. As always though Shadow left a small piece of themselves behind in Jade.
Jade fell to her knees as Shadow once again poured out of Jade like a black mist of a cloud only this time taking on a form looking like Jade but darker and more pale skin. Jade now knelt down as Shadow reached out a hand and helped her to her feet.
“Tisk tisk tisk, you are stronger then this Jade. Now stand up and show them who you are.”
Jade stood up this time emitting a low blue hue similar to one of a night sky. Her Emerald Green eyes scanned the room. The truth was Jades memories were threatening to consume her and her body hurt from the lack of rest. She looked to Phoenix for a moment her hand reached back and steadied Jade on the couch.
“Shadow meet Carol and Phoenix”
Jade was holding the memories at bay trying to remind Shadow she was the stronger energy. Jades voice quivered slightly, but she had an advantage she had the soul reaver swords and her key that could trap Shadow again. Shadow stood next to Jade appearing to care, but it was an act of pure manipulation.
“Just lean on me Jade.”

As Jade gave a warning about what Shadow was capable of Shadow King appeared behind Carol and smirked. "Your concern is appreciated, but beings like Shadow are the types of beings that we deal with for a living. Fire Away."Carol and Shadow King led Jade through the mindscape and back to the real world. As the sun went down Jean and Carol nodded to each other. Jean peered into Carol's mind invisibly and heard the plan that Carol had in mind. Jean telepathically shut out the lights leaving the room nearly pitch black. the only light came from Carol's Shadow Fire, which Ironically enough lite a room with light but the light was metaphysically darkness, which means someone like Shadow should be able to walk in it without being harmed even though it glowed and provided light. Carol and Jean watched as Shadow released herself from Jade. They were both disgusted by Shadow, they were able to see through Shadow's behavior. When Jade introduced them, Shadow King simply said. "Charmed." Though his sincerity was in doubt. Reading Jade's facially expressions Carol could see the pain in her eyes. The pain of her memories was threatening to crush her. Carol snarled. When she heard Shadow insincerely told Jade to lean on her *Oh no you don't.*in an instant, she quick-changed into her unstable molecules costume and rushed to Jade embracing her tightly in a motherly bearhug.
"It's ok Sugah Ah gotcha." Shadow King and Carol ventured into Jade's mindscape, ready to help guide and protect her from whatever trauma she was facing.

Jade felt Carol Embrace her in a hug, Shadow wasn’t there inside of her stopping Jade from feeling , no inside she felt a warmth inside of her like a warm spring sun.
Jade for the first time in a long time was free from Shadow, though her head was noisy still with the sounds of Carol and the like talking about in her head like it was an airport or a train station.
Jade embraced Carols warmth and the kindness she felt. She closed her eyes for moment and brought Carol to a safe place in her mind away from the dark nightmares she had suffered through. The landscape was serene the sky a pristine blue with a large mount resembling Mount Fuji, a mounting stream flowed by with a red bridge connecting the two shores. Pink flowers from the Cherry blossom trees on the shores reached gently to the sky as they highlighted the green grass. All leading led to a tiny white Gazebo that over looked the water with its read trim. Jade in her mind scape approached the Gazebo while wearing a kimono outline with intricate patterns of blues, whites, and Cherry Blossoms. Her hair was down hanging over her shoulders in a wavy pattern the honey brown highlights reflecting in the sun. She leaned over the edge and spoke to Carol as the Cherry blossoms floated by.
“I made this place when I was young, it starts here, but follows a path that my family told me was to my spirit guides. It’s funny sometimes how a simple memory can bring me peace. The walk to my ancestral ties follows the phases of the sun into a night sky over a desert. The celestial landscape is where my ancestors make their connections to this world and each other. Our minds can stretch further than our physical bodies. Our spirits are all connected through the celestial plains. It’s where our magic comes from it’s the reason I have the abilities I do. My life wasn’t always dark and traumatic. Like you Carol I was a different person once. You shared such a personal story, I saw and felt your pain. I feel it’s only right to share my story with you. I’m not from America I’m from Cuba. My family came here with a dream for a better life. We are travelers as some would say, passing our stories down from one generation to the next. We don’t just pass down stories we pass down our bloodlines, through them we can create keys that hold great power. We once had enough forges so that every ancestors home could forge keys in their homes, but as our powers where discovered by those who wished to corrupt them. So many of us went into hiding. Each family wanted to protect our blood lines which made us make the decision to destroy the forges until only one remained. It was kept and protected by my family in order to keep it out of the wrong hands.
Jade took a long pause looking over the horizon as the landscape started to change into a desert pathway. Jades outfit changed making her look more native her hair even changed now Braided and off to the side hues of purple shining through her darker colored hair the sun started to hang low in the sky and Jade now held a wooden hand crafted staff with the top piece having a round full moon shape with two crescent moon shaped facing to the East and West. She stood now at the edge of the path leading into the desert land that had sky of pure Stars and Galaxies. Jade looked over her shoulder and motioned for Carol to stand next to her.
“I can show you what I mean, this is the one safe place in my mind where Shadow could never go. Shadow had been blocked off from this plain. My parents you see they never made it here to the ancestral lands, they just disappeared like dust in the wind.”
Jades shoulders seemed heavy was she sighed closing her eyes slowly and opening them slowly as she exhaled.
“ My family’s forge was destroyed when Shadow attempted to take full control over me and when they did they forced me to use my blood and enchanted it with their dark Chi. They forced me to forge what they refer to as the Shadow key. When I finally regained control it was too late the dark energy destroyed and ashed the only remaining forge.”
Jade produced a small golden key with similar symbol to the one on her staff complete with the Quartz crystal. She looked at Carol showing her the key.
“This is my key not corrupted by dark chi it’s filled with my DNA connecting me to the Ancestors, only those with our bloodlines and DNA can use the key and the powers tied to them. “
She reabsorbed the key into her body and she sighed inwardly and leaned on the staff she holding. Breathing sharply inward Jade spoke again.
“Now Shadow holds a corrupted key and can travel the universe in the ways I was taught by my parents and the way they were taught by my ancestors. I have to stay connected to them if I don’t I can’t balance the keys and Shadow will walk this earth and harm every living being here. At least within me I can control the narrative and point Shadow like a laser to those who deserve their malice. Shadow saved me from something so dark and horrible I thought…”
Jade paused in her words the pain of the memories forcing their way in. She shook her head trying to clear her mind. Jade in that moment came out of her mind and into the Darkness that was housing Shadow and Phoenix. Her hands released Carol as her eyes widened. Her physical body begging for rest the exhaustion running deep her body ached her mind sounded like T.V. Static. Jades body without Shadows energy wasn’t able to keep up. Her legs felt weak suddenly as Jade collapsed onto the ground. The days of sleeplessness and endless physical stress was too much.
Shadow was now the only thing present as she addressed the room.
“See without me she is weak and without her I am still me, I just am unchecked and can do whatever I please, Just like Jade said. I strongly encourage you to allow me to reconnect to her as she needs me for balance.”
Jade was now drifting deep into the darkness of her mind. Pitch black darkness was seen with blue grey eyes piercing the darkness, the truth was Shadow had taken over Jades Dark part of her mind and fed off that darkness, but it was still a part of her. Memories of her torture came flashing through, one in particular remained. The time the Puppet master used his abilities to hold Jade to a stainless steal table turning off the pain receptors to her brain. Puppet master was a sadist though he kept her awake as he installed grommets on every joint of her body, so she could be his literal puppet play thing. Jade watched on with horror not being able to move or react as he finished his work and produced the key that belonged to Jade. He knew the injuries she had sustained she wouldn’t survive. He used his ability and forced Jade to heal herself connecting the gormets permanently to Jade’s body. Before the key could be reabsorbed the puppet master removed it. He put the key hidden away in what called his workshop and brought Jade back to her dank cell. He forced her side as Jade crumpled to the floor and whispered “please just let me go” the world went dark again as Jades mind faded into the darkness.

The Shadow King's (Or rather the Shadowbird's) Darkness was not like the typical darkness of a demonic entity. Most darkness was cold and it left the victim trapped within it either with dread, despair, or numbness. The Shadowbird's darkness was differnt. It wrapped around the victim like a warm blanket. It was warm, it was peaceful and it was meditative and based on the scenery change it seemed along with Carol's to allow Jade to escape into her peaceful place.
Said pewaceful place looked like something straight out of a painting. Jade gradually told the two of them her origin. As she talked about the forges and how they had to be destroyed, and how Shadow corrupted hers. Carol felt really sorry for her no body deserved to have their family history lost to time. seemed as though Shadow King was thinking the same thing.
"Ms Danvers. Do you know of anyone who might have a bit of knowledge in repairing and recovering mythical artifacts and energies long thought lost or beyond repair?
"Mmm Ah think Ah might know someone or two that fit that bill." She said with a grin looking to Jade. She had hoped the message to Jade was clear. They wanted to help her recover what was lost in any way they could and they knew people who that sort of thing was right up their alley.
"As far as Shadow goes,...*Sigh* as someone who was born in darkness and knows it like the back of my hand. Your intentions are pure, but you're not balancing her. She's consuming you . It's slow for now thanks to your efforts but it's only a matter of time before she devours you complelty. You'll cease to exist allowing her to claim your chi and your body and run amok anyway. You are going to lose everything for noth...."
Just then Jade colapsed and Carol was back in the house.
"Sug? Sug?!?"
"She's exhausted...and she's having a nightmare. Hang on!"
Shadowbird (Carol and Shadow King) dove deep into Jade's mind where the source of her nightmare was and they saw it. Her Darkest memory. The Puppet Master. He was doing things to her controling her like a puppet. Carol bit her lip as soon as she left she flew to Jade's Aid. Sure she wouldn't change the past nor the memory...but she could change the nightmare. Even if was just in this instance Jade WOULD be rescued.
"Hang on Darlin...You're not going through this again. Not this time." Jade wsa already been unconscious. Carol blasted the strings off of The memory Jade."
"Can you revive her?"
"I can yes but considering how you saving her isn't how the memory went, we'd be diving into some uncharted territory. The mindscape is going to become real unpredictable real fast. Are you brave enough?"
"Ah'd defend this girl from Mephisto if Ah had to."
"Alright then, here we go. I might be able to remove the actual metal inside her real body too." He started getting to work.
Carol couldn't help but smile.
"Since when did YOU get a heart?"
"...this isn't out of some benevolence on my part! This is about me refusing to be outdone by some mediocre Shadow Entity..."
"Suuure....riiiight."
"Silence Woman! Do you want me to help or not?"
"No no carry on. Don't let little ol me stop you."
Carol was still smiling on the inside.
___
"No she doesn't need you." Jean corrected. "She doesn't need you. She never did. Did you really think you could hide your true intentions from me? I see threw your disguise, and I know what you plan to do to Jade. I assure you I will not let that happen. The only reason I have yet to dispose of you is because this is about healing Jade not just ending you. for Jade to truly heal SHE has to willingly let go of you on her own...but that doesn't mean I won't stop you from influencing her further."
Jean used her telekinesis to throw and pin Shadow against a wall.

Jade listened to what Carol and Shadow Bird King had to say. They wanted to restore the forges?! Jade realized they had the best intentions but didn’t know the forges were destroyed for a reason. The magic they contained was too powerful and created corruption and greed. The world was truly better off without them. It did Sade’s Jade slightly to know she was the last of her blood line, but she would do whatever it took to honor her ancestors and do right by them.
Jade heard the voices around her clamoring on trying to find a way to help her without causing further damage. Jade wanted to wake up and tell them she was ok, but the truth was she was so tired and sleep was recharging her Chi, even if it was on the floor Jades mind, body, and soul needed healing.
She heard Shadow king some how in her mind talking about healing her physically. Jade found herself drawn back into her safe place only it was different it wasn’t the safe place she knew. Now this was a far more twisted landscape, something Shadow hadn’t even ventured into. It was like her memories where merging together of who Jade was, is, and had been. Jade projected herself into the mind scape and spoke to Carol and Shadow King.
“ I know what Shadow is doing, it scares me to think I could succumb to Shadow, but I have to believe in myself and know I have over come worse then Shadow. How do I know truly without Shadow I am strong enough to over come my own demons? Shadow is the reason I escaped this horrible torture. She took Vengeance where I couldn’t. I am the last of my people the sole remaining of my ancestors. I want to do right by them, the forges though they shouldn’t be recreated. They ended up being a source of greed and hatred because those who found out about them wanted them for their power, but all had ill intent….”
Jade paused in her words reflecting for a moment about what Shadow king said about removing the metal in her body. Jade became uncomfortable for a moment not wanting to relive the memories of her past. The past was seeping into the mindscape she was in a shadowy Panther like creature slinked in the shadows as the world seemed to seep into Darkness and quickly revolve into light again. Jade steadied her mind and inwardly sighed sharply. She regained control again as the land scape paused Jades body glowed like that of the universe and stars. She looked like inside of her was a galaxy, it was the true form of Jades Chi all of it intertwined into Jade and her ancestors. She spoke again attempting to steady her breath.
“ you said you could remove the metal from my body? I should warn you Shadow attempted to do the same several times. Each time nearly killing me, even with the use of my magic and the key for my self healing.”
Jade sat on the ground and cris crossed her legs for a moment now looking over a cliff side to a vast horizon full of stars and milky ways. Laid directly in front of her was the staff and her hand held the key.
“You will need to have me use this on myself if you can remove the metal. It was intended to act as apart of my joints. My healing is tied into this key, my captor some how figured out how to use during his….procedures he knew he couldn’t wield but would force me to heal myself, but remove it before I could take it back. The metal had loops on it that he would connect wires to them and he would use a device he created to make me move like a marionette on strings. I would be forever greatful of you could remove the last remaining pieces in my joints.”
The truth was Jade felt the metal grind on her bones every day and night. It would be a relief to finally be free of the constant pain.
“So tell me how do you plan to get rid of the metal? ___ Shadow felt the force of phoenix pin her to the wall. Shadow remained unphased by the actions that took place. Though Jeans words were very interesting the thought of Jade freeing herself from Shadow, as if Shadow was controlled by Jade. She gave a side ways smirk and didn’t entertain her own thoughts to fight back, no instead she produced her own key, opening a dark portal directly behind Jean.
“The question is would Jade be as strong without you.”
Shadow had trapped Jean on the edge of the portal to her own dark universe. Normally reserved for dark souls, but today Shadow would entrap someone else.
“Your move”

Carol and Shadow King listened Carefully As Jade explained her situation. They too thought she was well-intentioned, but life had taught carol over the past 3 or 4 years that hiding away power did not help things in many ways it just worked in the opposite extreme or perhaps shadow bird was missing context. "Hang on Sugar, what do you They ended up being a source of greed and hatred, and just how powerful are these things? Lots of heroes have powers, trying to hide them and keep them under lock and key doesn't always help in fact ironically enough sometimes it does the opposite and leaves you more open to be exploited. We actually tried that once a few years back with the Superhuman Registration Act and it blew up in our face because we found what works on paper doesin't always work in pratice. If these things really ARE that dangerous, then yes maybe it's best to leave them be, but you can't let fear of how people COULD abuse your power control you..."
"YOU!!!!" Carol turned around to hear a whole as the behemoth figure of the puppet master lumbered toward Carol and Jade. "YOU RUINED MY NEW PUPPET!" The man seemed to be much bigger than he was previously, it made sense. this was not the real version of the Puppet master, this was Jade's trauma made manifest into the man that was the face of it all. But Carol wasin't afraid. It wouldin't be the first time she had a dance with Trauma and knowing her luck it'd be far from the last. She smirked and cracked her knuckles and neck. The puppet master cackled. "I don't know who you are, but you have no power here. Here Jade is mine to control! Here I AM THE PUPPET MASTER!!!" metal and puppet Strings seems to erupt from the floor and the sky and attach themselves to Carol as had been done to Jade. Carol entertained him for a allowing him to control her for a bit even doing a bit of a dance before she casually blasted away his puppet strings with a blast of Blue Shadow Energy. The message was clear. She was only playing with him. "IMPOSSIBLE!" he cried. "NO FAIR!!!!" "Oh honey. You think Ah'm afraid of Darkness, of Inner Demons? My whole life has been one traumatizing experience after another, and after all Ah've gone through, Ah've learned something about inner demons. They only have as much power as you give them." She started to glow in a dark blue aura. Her smirk stretched wider. "AND YOU HAVE NO POWER OVER ME!" She charged after him, hitting him like a freight train sending him flying. Meanwhile, Shadow King was focused on Jade."I don't believe I'll need your healing abilities to remove the metal. I have powers that can heal you myself. But if you insist so be it. Help me connect you to your key, then I'll remove the metal. As for as how I plan on doing that. Let's just say in the Billions of years I have existed I have some experience with performing surgery. I will not be outdone by some shadow entity several tiers below me."___
Jean felt herself get pulled into Shadow's dark portal and looked around. She gazed and saw all of the tormented souls that Shadow had put in here. She made a note to come back to this place after this encounter was over. In the meantime, she teleported back, appearing in the shape of a firebird. In spite of the Phoenix's light, her magic energy or whatever you wanted to call it was not harming Shadow. Phoenix made sure of it. After all, she wasn't done with her prey just yet. She cackled almost evilly. Her laugh echoed around the mansion.
"Hahaha...hahahaha.....AHAHAHAHAHA!!!!" Foolish little shadow creature. Did you think you could cage me like I am some Nightingale to sing for your amusment? I..AM...THE PHOENIX. I am the Physical embodiment of Existence itself! There is no place where I cannot come and go as I please. The very power of the universe itself is at my fingertips. The only limits I have are that which I place on myself!"She divebombed and pinned Shadow against the floor with a fiery claw."Now...My turn." Jean teleported herself and Shadow to the White room. Or rather The White City, Jean had become greatly inspired by the Book Of Revelation and decided to work on a architectural project so to Speak. Here in the White Room/White City, there was no light or darkness in the normal sense. There was no light to hurt shadow, but no darkness for her to hide in either. No, she was in the open her true appearance and nature exposed for all to see.Phoenix appeared before Shadow. This time dressed in white and gold. "Welcome Shadow to the White City, The Nexus of life and existence itself. I hope now it is dawning on you just exactly what you are dealing with. I'm going to ask one last time. Stop feeding off Jade and leave her alone...or you shall see what happens when a Rabbit that thinks it's a honey badger picks a fight with a Phoenix.

"Hang on Sugar, what do you They ended up being a source of greed and hatred, and just how powerful are these things? If these things really ARE that dangerous, then yes maybe it's best to leave them be, but you can't let fear of how people COULD abuse your power control you..."
Jade looked at Carol as she spoke of the Superhuman Registration Act and titled her head to the side for a moment. Jade had never considered herself on the same level as those who were targeted by the registration act, she didn’t have an ability. Jade spoke with a certain confusion on her voice.
“I think you have me confused with a super human, I assure you that is not what I am a person who Carrie’s Chi like my ancestors. That Chi or star light as we call it. Comes from the celestial plans and connects us to our ancestors. With that we learn our Ancestors magic and pass jt on through the generations. On top of this when a person reaches a certain age they are forged a key of their own from their families blood and Chi. The key opens up our magic more and we each have our own magic abilities, the key helps us to focus our celestial magic and only those connects by blood can access the keys. To rebuild the forged would add more risk to bring dark energy into this world. It’s too risky to bring them back, which is why I’m the last of my blood line and people. After me we all be star dust living in the sky.”
It was in the moment she heard the angry voice from the darkness and saw the force he wielded trying to bring harm to Carol as she freed herself from him and memory faded away.
Jade turned her attention to shadow king and spoke as she produced the key and was slightly relieved to know she would be free from the pieces of metal in her body.
“To use this for healing it must be used by my hand and inserted directly into me. You have to turn the key to activate it. I accept you taking away the pain of the instruments of torture within me”
————
Shadow now found themselves within a holy light and city. Jean was proving to be a worthy adversary. As shadow found itself within the city walls shadow wasn’t able to pull on the dark entities it once had. Shadow smirked and looked at Phoenix.
“I’ll disconnect from Jade and leave her in current state, but she’ll be back for me. You will see.”
Shadow disappeared into nothing teleporting back to there dark dimension. What Phoenix didn’t know nor Carol or really Jade is a very unnoticeable dark tether of shadow remained within Jade. For now though it would appear Shadow had vanished.

Carol and the Puppet Master were in an all-out drag-out brawl. She knew that in a real-world scenario that the Puppet Master would not be near this strong, but This was Jade's nightmare. He was as big and as strong as Jade imagined and given considering what he had done to her, of course, he was so large in his mind. Still she couldin't not let herself give him any additional power, so she pulled a Spider-Man and started to mock him. "Ha, and Ah thought Ah had become a big girl lately. If Ah'm big enough to have my own zipcode but you're in whole different timezones."
"Grrr shut up!" The puppet master smashed the ground and hit hard. Carol felt herself go flying and slide but managed to get back to her feet. She continued to taunt him. "Ah mean come on! Ah'll admit that Ah'm fat enough to have my own gravity field, but you're so fat your belt size is Saturn."
The puppet Master let out another growl,. He was getting sloppier. Carol found an opening. "You know there is one really nice boon to being a big girl."
She unleased a baarge of punches, kicks, and slams "SPEED...AND...WEIGHT!"
The Ringmaster tumbled and fell screaming into an empty abyss bellow surrounded by fog. His screams faded into eerie silence. seemed like this would be the end of the Puppet Master, whether this would affect Jade and be a permanent thing or whether he'd come back from the abyss of Jade's mind, only time would tell. meanwhile, Shadow King followed Jade's instructions and began working to remove the metal and work on her wounds. thanks to the Shadow Kings Telekinetic abilities, what Shadow King was doing in the mindscape also translated to the real world. A wicked thought entered his mind. He could easily use her as a new host. She was already susceptible to such a thing due to Shadow's influence. He could easily do the same thing but do it better and more thoroughly It would be so easy. Yet he let that thought to fade away. His reasoning was that even at Jade's maz potential, carol was a much stronger host. There was no need to trade her for a weaker model. At least, that was the reasoning he gave himself. ___ Jean crossed her arms as Shadow dissipated, technically Shadow did do what Phoenix had asked, but she couldn't help but think that something about that was way too easy, but for now, this seemed to be the end of it, the emphasis was of course was"For now." she teleported back to the mansion back in her dark red and mustard yellow outfit. She looked over to see gaping wounds appear out of nowhere on her body as blood and bits of metal spilled out of the wounds. At first she was scared and concerned thinking maybe Shadow was visibly attacking her out of spite, but she breathed a sigh of relief when she saw the wounds invisibly close just as they had invisibly opened. She gazed into Jade's mind and saw that the Shadow King was, in fact, removing the Metal from Jade's body with surgical precision, the last physical remnants of what Puppet Master had done were being removed once and for all. The mental and emotional scars however would take more time to heal. Jean also used the Phoenix force to help with the healing process on her end. Jean decided to do a little bit of deeper gazing using her Physic powers she discovered something about Jade that would change things a bit however she wouldn't be able to go into further detail until everyone met up again. After he removed all the metal. The Shadow King gazed at his work and have a satisfied smirk. "There we go, Every last bit of that nasty puppeteer equipment has been removed. Though I will warn you. You're probably going to wake up in a pool of blood and metal. So try not to panic when you wack."

Jade bared witness to the true strength of Carol as she fought her way against the darkest being in Jades mind. The only reason Jade herself didn’t fight back was she was too busy keeping her mind open and physically body alive as Shadowking worked out the metal from her body. The pain was real and not something she could turn off it seared through her body like lightning. Just as quickly as she wanted to scream she felt something in the physical world, Jean. The familiar warmth of her light helping Jade get through the pain. The body of Jade relaxed for a moment.
No sooner had Jade relaxed then Shadowkifn he finished his work. Jade looked at Carol and Shadowking in her mind.
“You helped me beyond what I can put into words. I owe you both a debt of gratitude. I need to return to the physical world. My body feels whole again for the first time in a long time, but I need to understand the damage that has been done and heal.”
Jade with those words returned to the land of the living as she opened her eyes they fell upon Phoenix. Then her hand slipped in something slimy and wet. Jade sat up immediately remembering Shadowking had told her to not feel alarmed by the gruesome site surrounding her, but it was only natural Jade would feel something with the level of blood and metal objects surrounding her.
Jade was feeling weak from the blood loss, but that would go away soon. Her hands were now soaked in her own blood as she attempted to stand on her own will. Memories flooded Jades mind. Shadow was not there to act as a damn Jade was confused by them. She tried to make sense of it as she shakily spoke to Jean and Carol.
“Thank you for your help and guidance, truly thank you. I…I haven’t been truly free from the Puppetmaster in a long time. I…”
She was going to say more but her words faded off. Memories of the sounds of jackboots stomping on the ground and yelling filled her mind for a moment. Jade tried to reach out to Shadow, but soon realized they were gone. Had Shadow some how been attached to the equipment left inside her? Or had Phoenix followed through and taken out Shadow.
Jade fell back to her knees and hands as she realized it was going to take a moment before she could stand. She sat with her knees curled into her chest. A single droplet of blood dripped down from her hand as she crossed them over her knees. She looked up her emerald green eyes showing the confusion she had.
“I..I think I need a moment to recover. I’m not sure what’s happening to me. It’s like my mind and body are resetting. I can’t explain it.”
The truth was Jade was remembering her past, her true past not tainted by Shadow and her powers were coming in full force. Jade for a brief moment of time was losing control of her abilities because she didn’t know her abilities were even a 1/3 as strong as she was now becoming.

Carol felt herself come back to the real world she gave Jean a look as she rolled her shoulder.
"Get a bit of a workout in there?" Jean asked.
"Nightmare puppet master tried to rain on our parade, but I took care of him. What about our little shadow friend?"
"For now...Something tells me that I don't think it's over. Something about it just felt too easy. We'll need to keep our eyes opened. Looks like Shadow King made a mess of the floor. Sorry about that."
"Aww Ah'm not worried. It's easy to clean up." Carol looked down and saw all of the metal on the floor. "Jeez. Ah'd say it's a good thing you didn't have an MRI done with all of that metal in ya." she gave a warm smile.
Just as Jade was about to thank her give her full thanks, she seemed to collapse again. held her again.
"Honey, honey are you ok?"
Both Jean and Carol looked into her mind and they heard the jackboots. Jean doug a little further and she saw fuzzy images of the soldiers. She couldn't help but smirk as she recognized the symbols on the soldiers.
"I knew it. Jade has an X-gene."
Carol looked at her. "Are you sure?"
Jean nodded. "I sensed it before as...Shadow King worked on Jade, but I needed to know for sure. I bet he X-Gene is what gives her such a natural affinity for Magic. She may have be the key to passing on the ways of her people."
