Daredevil, pivoted on the spot and waited for the US Agent to catch his breath before anchoring his cable for the next swing across the street line. "A couple months ago I found him drugged and under the employ of a fiscal shark who was using him as hired muscle, though not in the usual sense. Had to drop him out of a twenty story building and shatter his arm before I could put him out. He escaped in the interim, but whoever loaned him out must've hardwired his brain and now he's free of it. Those red pills he takes affect his brain chemistry and give him extreme adrenaline, and since I don't think even he's entirely sure of who did him in, he's looking to simply take his aggression out on whoever remotely reminds him of his past," said Matt before shrugging. "But that's my guess," he added before leaping off and swinging to the next block, landing in a roll and turned. The distance was far for him, but for somebody with super strength, a simple leap would do it. Assuming he didn't have a concussion.

Agent followed Daredevil’s lead. He wasn’t sure how the vigilante was capable of tracking Nuke, but he assumed he had abilities of some kind that surpassed those of a regular human being, something like the enhanced feral senses of Wolverine or Sabertooth. Then again, he could have tech of some kind in his mask. Either way, the red clad man seemed to know where they were heading. As the devil used his club to get across the distance, another example of the Swiss Army Knife-like capabilities of the thing, he merely jumped. His enhanced strength allowed him to cover the distance with the same ease a regular man would have had stepping into his vehicle, but when he landed he felt every injury he’d received this evening. He felt woozy and his vision swirled as he landed. “Wonderful. I hate junkies. They are always unpredictable and that’s just the regular losers the cops have to deal with,” he replied. When they reached the end of the trail, however Daredevil was tracking it, it landed them at a fairly nice looking brownstone. Not the typical safe house, but that was probably the point. This close to the Times Square the place had to be at least a little more upscale than the dives Nuke had utilized the last couple of hours. Silently they approached the door, a nod of confirmation from the vigilante letting him know they were in the right place. Considering the booby traps he’d encountered at the last place Simpson had crashed he opted not to go barging in. He reached carefully for the handle, using the doorframe and wall as makeshift cover. Daredevil however jolted as if he knew something was wrong, grabbed his wrist, and motioned for them both to move. A split second after DD’s warning gunfire filled the hall, obliterating the door. The unmistakable whirling sound of a mini-gun could be heard in the brief lull, and John used his shield to block several rounds from hitting both Daredevil and himself. A brief glimpse through the dust and debris revealed Nuke, armed to the teeth with enough weaponry to take down a third world country in short order. “MOVE!” he shouted at Daredevil as he barreled out the way they came in. ---------------- Frank Simpson, glazed over eyes bugging out of his head, fired the mini-gun until the door was obliterated and the hallway beyond looked like cheddar cheese. That knockoff Cap again! And he brought a girlfriend in red, how sweet! he thought. Downing the last of his beer in a single gulp and smashing it against his forehead he grinned wickedly. “Welcome to the war!” he shouted as he took off in pursuit of the costumed men, his arsenal clinking with every step. “I’m taking no prisoners!”Dashing down the hall in hot pursuit he planned on testing out every one of his many toys be they sharp, blunt, or explosives before the night was done and the two that hunted him were the perfect targets.

Daredevil polevaulted away with the help of his staff out the window, feeling the Agent not far behind and into an alleyway below. He counted the amount of bullets that Nuke fired wildly into the streets. The gun was going to run out of ammo, and he would likely swap to the M16 on his back, or the RPG. "Agent! get ready to charge!" he bellowed, hoping that got over the minigun fire, and just barely getting out the way of Nuke's firing path as he switched targets. Agent could use that time to close the gap but he had to move before he could turn the gun back on him. He let a Billy Club loose, which missed the bullets and ricocheted, socking Nuke's minigun. He hoped it jammed, but even if it didn't, he had a fifty-fifty chance it was out of ammo, and even if it wasn't, it still required a split second to fire back up. A split second was all the Man Without Fear needed. He hung onto the cable and fired the other baton right at Simpson, which glanced off his chest, reeling it back in with double boots to the chest and a backflip kick that soared right over the US Agent, who was only a few meters away. His superior strength could probably launch Nuke, but likely right into the civilian population. He tried to call out but it was too late...

U.S.Agent covered the distance between himself and Nuke in short order, hearing Daredevil’s warning a split second too late. He delivered a powerful blow that hurt his fist as much if not more than it would have Simpson who went airborne and through a wall where he spilled out into the streets below. Realizing the close proximity to civilians John followed him through the new opening intending to bring his shield down on the psycho’s gut. His enemy was too fast though, rolling backwards out of range as John’s shield bit into the concrete. A powerful left hook connected with his head, aggravating his concussion and making his vision go blurry. Lashing out blindly U.S.Agent heard the tearing of metal and a clatter as the rifle Nuke had raised fell to the ground in pieces and saving him from a face full of automatic fire. Knowing that Daredevil would have been hot on his heels, Agent hoped to use the same tactic his uneasy ally had and keep Nuke distracted so the Devil could have a clear shot at his back. Too close for most of his weapons to be effective, John performed a spinning roundhouse kick, aiming for the exposed metal of Simpson’s jaw. Instead of the painful impact he expected he felt a powerful grasp around his ankle as Nuke caught him, swung him around like an Olympic discus thrower, and tossed him through the air. He flew backwards and collided with Daredevil as the men went down in a pile of flailing, brusied and bloody limbs. Blinking away starts for the gazillionth time this evening John expected Nuke to be preparing a grenade launcher or something equally explosive to finish off the costumed heroes. Instead, he saw Nuke lifting a luxury sedan over his head like it was nothing. “No more shields, no more fancy sticks, no more words! The war goes on, but you? You two have lost! KIAs is all you are!” he shouted as he prepared to crush them like bugs beneath a several ton metal boot.

Daisy “Quake” Johnson” was just finishing up a mission of bringing in a rather large Inhuman shapefhiter with the ability to shapeshfiter. She was doing her normal scanning of the secure channels to see if anything seemed strange or something she could be involved in. She hen heard the voice of Nick Fury trying to send out orders’ to Nastasha, only for Nastaha Romanov to be out of range of the communication. Quake decided it was in New York’s best interest for her to go personally to the situation and see for herself the damage being caused by a guy named Nuke. She knew Daredevil was there, but seeing as DareDevil was on her side Quake didn’t want to stop him, just the one called “Nuke” was threatening to destroy all of New York. She clicked on her communicator to Fury and let him know she was on the way to New York and to get her team ready with a Helicopter. Daisy figured an air strike was the best way to take out a person who clearly had the upper hand on the ground. “Quake is enroute prepare strike team. Will arrive on the helipad in 2 minutes.” With that Daisy moved through the S.H.I.E.L.D building and made her way to the helipad. She quickly moved inside the helicopter, which was loaded with a Gatling gun, and other various S.H.I.E.L.D sanctioned weapons and aerial support. She spoke to the crew over the sounds of the chopper taking off in the air , telling them her plan. “Simple bag and tag boys, I go in I get the bad guy, you guys provide me with air support. Things get ugly you call in the strike force. For now its us as the Calvary here. All I can say is its up to us to take him out. “ As the chopper neared the sight the pilot played flight of the Valykeries over the loud speaker, Daisy visually inspected the area and saw a large angry looking exoskeleton of man throwing a car what appeared to be U.S. Agent. Daisy connected herself to the Choppers ropes and repelled into the situation. She was caring an mp4 holstered to her side as well as 2 side arms and numerous other bladed weapons hiding in her uniform. She was once fully reliant on her abilities, but had learned sometimes one needed a weapon or seven. As the target was about to kill U.S. Agent with a car he was throwing at him. Quake made her move, her arms thrusted outward. The world around them vibrated and shook as the man was now propelled backwards by her semic blast. The car was jolted off to the side as Daisy look over at DareDevil and U.S. Agent. She spoke them focusing her power on the one known as Nuke or at least she hope that was the bad guy; it looked like the bad guy seeing as he was throwing a car in U.S. Agents directions. “Someone call for the Calvary?”

Daredevil struggled back to his feet, but couldn't bring himself upright fully: The SHIELD Agent known as Quake. They had met once before, and her vibration abilities were wreaking havoc with his senses, as the beating from them radiated off of her in consistent waves, even when she stopped between blasts. He stumbled before he had realized a dozen SHIELD agents had he, and he presumed his "ally" for want of a better word, surrounded with pulse rifles. He was outgunned here, and with Quake doing what she did, there was no quick escape. Dammit. --------------------------------------- Nuke bounced a few times, hit a few cars, before finding himself being pinned to a wall. What the hell!? Did a shiny little girl just get the jump on him!? "Nice try, powderpuff, but it's going to take more than Jedi magic to put a good soldier down!" He pulled the M16 off his back, and managed to use his superhuman strength to roll away and open fire at the new target. He unloaded everything he had and then popped off a grenade for good measure. With any luck the cars not far from them would get caught and put them down. Nuke wasn't really a religious man, but he prayed to God this plan worked!

John lay there in a heap. He was broken, bruised, and bloodied. For all intents and purposes his role in this battle was complete, he couldn't have stood if he wanted to and all he would have done was get in the way, die against Simpson. Besides, he had disobeyed a direct order from the President of the United States. Even if he was not being made a scapegoat for this entire operation, chances were SHIELD would have arrested him for that alone. Down, out, and under arrest did not mean he was useless however. He still had one last thing he could do to help stop that madman's destructive rampage. Fingers twitching he grasped his shield and forced himself into a sitting position. The SHIELD forces tensed, weapons pointing as if they thought he was going to attack them or something. Instead, in a gasping, raspy voice he shouted to the powered agent engaging Nuke. "HERE!"With that he tossed her his shield. Sure she may not have the experience he or Rogers had wielding one, but it was still vibranium and it didn't take a ton of skill to use it to block the incoming arsenal Simpson would be throwing at her. The shield fell short and skidded along the ground, coming to a stop at Quake's feet. With a satisfied smile Walker let the darkness take him as he fell into unconsciousness.

Quake watched as the one identified as the threat known as Nuke reverberated from her use of Seismic energy. As cars were thrown in her direction and M16 ire started to rain down Quake quickly formed an energy Shield around Daredevil and the other man who looked more injured then anyone on the scene. Just as she was about to he turned into street pizza the man known as the Patriot called out to her and slid his giant Shield in her direction. With her super human strengthen and movement Quake blocked the bullets. She moved quickly twisting her body and angling the Shield as she moved through the air. Quake then jumped off a near by broken down car flipped through the air and landed with a seismic blast to the ground. Quake was careful to aim the energy blast at the one known as Nuke. "HERE!"Quake focused on the weapon next that Nuke was carrying. She focused on the weapon as she did the weapon vibrated and moved to the point of the M16 crumbling in Nuke’s hand. She radio t the Choppper that flew over head and requested a medical evacuation for the Patriot who had given her the Shield. “We need a medical evac for DareDevil and who looks to be an other unknown hero.” Daisy knew her orders well, take out Nuke, leave DareDevil because he’s on our side and help as much as she possibly could. Daisy looked to the injured man who had given her the Shield and spoke with a slight smirk. “Thanks for the Shield, Cap know you’re out here? Don’t worry we got a medical unit on the way for you. I can take him out from here.”With that Daisy focused again with her super human reflexes, strengthen and seismic ability there was very little Nuke could throw at her that Daisy wasn’t able to take out. She focused now on Nuke trying to stop him in his place as she literally started to vibrate him form the inside out. This use of concentrated energy would take its toll on Quake, but she knew it was for the best interest of New York. She reached with her free hand for her Mp4 and took aim as automatic gunfire now reigned down on Nuke. Quake didn’t address Nuke, no he wasn’t worth her words. No she would show Nuke, why you didn’t mess around with S.H.I.E.L.D.

He felt the gun explode in his hand. All the bullets from that girl gun in her hand did was shred more synth skin and piss him off. He unshouldered both RPGs and aimed. "Ah, love the smell of napalm in the mornin' darlin'! Should've just stayed makin' sandwiches for the boys in the barracks," he muttered, he was too far away for her to hear him and he didn't really care. He opened fire, both rockets aiming right on target. Not even wasting the moment, he took off the remaining grenades and hurled them like fastballs down at Yankee Stadium right after his rockets. If he was gonna go out, then he would do so with a bang. Pro survival tip: Do what you can with what you got. He then realized he still had his three pistols and his machete left. Well, he realized, let's make the most of it. Maybe after this he can reload and go get a jet to Miami or something. Some place warm. He unholstered two of his pistols and fired at the SHIELD agents advancing on them. Sure their little Power Ranger suits would keep them safe, but they would be down and out of his way. He made sure he got the Dessert Eagles for this one. If his daddy taught him anything, you take the biggest guns you can find. These puppies would drop a moose, and they sure shit make quick work of SHIELD agents. Once he was out of ammo, he pulled out his last pistol, a SOCOM grade pistol, and his machete and charged the earthquake bitch. Let's see her try and take him at close quarters now that he saw her little attack coming.

Quake felt the ground rumble and the air move around her as the one known as Nuke started firing rounds off at other agents who were trying to secure the area and give the Patriot the medical support he needed. Quake wasn’t one to mess around and didn’t want a long drawn out battle that would lead to more death and destruction. She focused her energy on Nuke as she created a protective energy field around the agents that were getting the patriot ready for medical evacuation. She stood ready for a fight as Nuke Charged towards her. Quake’s eyes focused in on her target. She pinpointed all of his weak spots. The first charge at her was unsuccessful as she used her speed to dodge the attack. Quake then saw the medical team getting Patriot to the medical Chopper and evacuated safely from the area, now she could really let go. She touched the ground with a vibration that literally made it jump up and trap Nuke inside. His weapons and other items effectively immobilized by the pressure of the earth surrounding him. Quake immobilized quickly shooting Nuke with as many Tranqu darts as she could. Quake then called over her com system to the extraction team that was awaiting her orders. “Target has been neutralized, we need containment immediately.” As she spoke, heavily armed S.H.I.E.L.D agents prepared to bring in Nuke. Quake looked around the chaos that was being contained and cleaned up. She saw DareDevil off in the distance, knowing her ability was more then likely messing with him. She approached Daredevil as he site was being cleaned up. She knew he was on her side and was working with Fury like she was. Daisy wasn’t much of a conservationist as she approached DareDevil she made sure he powers were in check as she approached him. “Hey are you injured, do you need medical care? Director Fury Sent me here to contain the situation. He said we should talk.” Daisy stood before DareDevil, she was concise and to the point. Daisy wasn’t going to beat around the bush or try to be one to part words when innocent lives were at stake. She had to admit in many ways she respected DareDevil. He was the kind of person that Daisy understood, he was doing the right thing for the most part taking out dirt bags and being in places that not even S.H.I.E.L.D could go. Daisy didn’t always agree with S.H.I.E.L.D’s view on vigilante’s and non-registered heroes. For a matter of fact being an Inhuman made her different from all the other S.H.I.E.L.D agents. Those differences though, where the reason Fury chose her for this mission.

Daredevil was clutching his waist. Even under the armor he felt his wounds from earlier this evening had re-opened. He was exhausted and breathing heavily. He felt Quake restrain her powers more, creating a seismic bubble around her person, but it still give him a mild migraine nonetheless. Not something to have when he had too many questions that he was not entirely sure she would answer. "That message I sent was meant for Natasha. Why are you here?" he asked icily. He wasn't ungrateful, but the idea that his private link to the Black Widow was, as he figured, a proven lie, he was not in the mood for any of SHIELD's, or Fury's for that matter, ridiculous games. Then again, he did ask for the Avengers OR SHIELD, he just expected Tasha along with the reinforcements. He watched the US Agent get taken into SHIELD custody along with Nuke. He remembered back to a few months ago when he was in his position. He got punched right in the jaw by a SHIELD agent then too. He wondered if the Agent was going to meet a similar fate, before reaching around his feet for his billy clubs, still cabled together, unhitching them and sheathing them back into place. It was a bit difficult considering he had to keep his wits about him in case Quake tried anything, as well as not aggravate his wounded waist.

"That message I sent was meant for Natasha. Why are you here?"Daisy was watching the body posture of DareDevil also known as Mat Murdock. Her eyes carefully watched every one of his movements, not because she thought he would attacked her. The opposite really she wanted to know if DareDevil needed medical attention. Daisy or Quake as some people had gotten to know her as was not your typical S.H.I.E.L.D agent she was Fury's number two agent for a reason Daisy didn't view the world as just black and white no she saw the grey in every thing. She didn't think people like DareDevil who were just trying to protect the world deserved to be mistreated or not liked because of their actions. Daisy was an Inhuman maybe that was what made her different form the res of S.H.I.E.L.D whatever the case was Fury picked her for the case because of her ability to remain objective in all situations. After all Daisy had her secrets too. She could tell by DareDevil's body language he did't trust her, not she blamed him S.H.I.E.L.D hadn't exactly proven to anyone that they were trust worthy. Daisy spoke to DareDevil with a neutral tone to her voice and a certain Fury like confidence. “Fury sent me because Natash is not reachable right now. The names Johnson, Agent Johnson from S.H.I.E.L.D I’m Fury’s second in command. You look like you could use some medical attention. I can help you if you want DareDevil.” With that Daisy walked over to a near by medical bag that had been left behind and brought it over to DareDevil. This was her attempt at being kind and showing DareDevil she was not like the other agents. They had a common purpose to protect New York and Daisy had no reason to think of DareDevil in a negative light. "

U.S.Agent drifted back to the land of the waking only briefly as SHIELD personnel began administering emergency medical aid and realized he was being loaded onto a stretcher. He knew chances were he was going to be healed up and then handed over to the CSA to rot in a cell, but considering his past work for SHIELD when he worked under Maria Hill and Stark there was the slightest of chances that he might get the chance to be the Agent once again. They did owe him after all and unlike those ingrates at the Commission, Hill and Stark tended to remember the good he had done over the years. At that moment however he was just happy to have seen Nuke taken down. Would the fight have gone differently had Daredevil not interfered beforehand? Possibly. Probably even. But right now just seeing the psycho put down was good enough for him. As the painkillers he was administered began to kick in and the world began to go black once again there were only two things he wanted to do before unconsciousness took him. First, despite the protests of the men and women trying to stabilize his neck he looked at Quake and gave a nod of thanks. He'd follow it up with a proper thank you when he could. Then he glanced at Daredevil, lifted his bruised and battered hand as if he were going to give him a thumbs up, and gave him a very different finger. With a satisfied smirk he let the meds do their work.

He noticed the US Agent flip him the bird. He did not care. Nuke was taken care of on his terms, government or no government. Justice, not politics. And that was enough. Besides, it wouldn't be the first time he's been flipped off by people who hated him, and it would not be the last. He looked forward to address Quake. "I know who you are, Agent Johnson. Your reputation precedes you, even among us "street-level" types," he replied, his tone with significant less ice, but still guarded nonetheless. Whether she worked directly under Fury or not, she wasn't him, nor was she Natasha, and that came with a certain degree of distrust given the times SHIELD had tried to come for him and failed in the past. "As for help, you've already provided it. Just make sure SHIELD keeps a closer eye on the crazy ones who wear the flag and less on the people upholding what it stands for next time," he said simply and with that extracted his billy club and fired it to the rooftops, taking off into the night. He sensed SHIELD agents point their rifles up at him, but he also heard a rush of men claiming to hold fire, for which he was grateful. He would need to call Claire Temple for a patch job, but a few stitches in the stomach was a price to pay for a pair of psychos off the streets and in the custody of people who could keep them that way. He wheeled about when he got to the edge of the building and despite the injury, adrenaline pulling him through, he was still graceful as ever as he re-entered Hell's Kitchen with a few short hops between the buildings, firing his grapple at familiar landscapes of his home as he always did. Watching. Waiting in the darkness. A Guardian Devil once again. -FIN

Epilogue
--2 hours later--
The heavens had opened above New York City. Raindrops cascaded down onto the streets and rooftops of the busy city. The large, blue tarpaulin fluttered in the wind but held fast. The SHIELD emblem was printed onto it's surface and faced skywards, almost in resilience against the dark clouds; pregnant with rain. Most of the work had been done. SHIELD clean up crews were finishing up the last of the wreckage. Most of the vehicles had upped sticks and left. The ambulance containing John Walker had been one of the first to leave the scene. The prison transport had followed shortly afterwards. The clean up crews had then set up shop. They had the laborious task of both holding back the crowds of civilians amongst whom were curious reporters as well as removing any evidence they may need later or any dangerous materials. They were also tasked with the removal of deceased innocents that had been unfortunate enough to be caught in the crossfire. Most agents that were not clean up crew members did not stay for this part of a mission. What would be the point? The bad guys had been beaten. There were no innocents still alive to protect. Case closed. Mission resolved. Nicholas J Fury watched as the agents that had been assigned to the mission drove away to be debriefed. All except for Agent Johnson. Nick had taken a liking to her since day one. She had a spirit about her that was rare amongst SHIELD agents. She was hopeful. Positive. Back when he had been Director, Nick had liked keeping a handful of positive people around to remind him what it was that they were fighting to save. A little bit of hope didn't hurt. Too much hope however...that was a different story. Since leaving SHIELD, Nick had still kept a close eye on most of the agents; especially the ones he knew would be handy one day. Agent Johnson was one of those agents. For a while, he had envisioned her becoming Director one day. With the way the world was going now...maybe...maybe not. That wasn't his call to make anymore.
Nick watched Agent Johnson standing under the tarpaulin. A sanctuary against the oncoming storm above New York City. Soon, the clean up crew packed up their gear and seemed to head out. They had left the cops to pick up loose ends like the tarpaulin. Typical. Sloppy. Nick rolled his ends and stepped out of the shadows. He drew out his AI pen from his breast pocket as he approached.
"Agent Johnson. Well done."
Nick smiled as Johnson quickly turned round to face him.
"It's been some time since we actually saw each other face to face. All my fault. I apologise. I've been busy for the past few months. Been trying to attract as little attention as possible. Unlike the clowns that decided to act out here today. Thank you for stepping in. If I'd had more notice I'd have sent more of a cavalry in with you. That wouldn't have been necessary as you handled yourself well for which I commend you. However, the job isn't done yet agent. If anything, we're right out of the frying pan and slap bang in the middle of the fire."
Nick pressed the end of the AI pen.
"Display current New York City crisis Alpha."
"Confirmed. Displaying current New York City crisis Alpha."
The AI pen obliged and a hologram shone from the pen and onto the ground around them beneath the tarpaulin. It was a scaled down model of NYC. One of the buildings had a orange dot glowing against it.
"What you're seeing is NYC. Over there is an apartment building in Greenwich Village. That is going to be your home for the foreseeable future. Don't worry, it's a nice place and all paid for. I've ensured that most of your belongings have been delivered there. The rest are coming next Thursday. I'm sorry but the delivery vans in this City are just not coherent. You say 1pm Friday, you expect 1pm Friday!"
Nick could see the look of alarm on the agent's face. He held up his gloved hand.
"I'm sorry. You're right, that's not what is important right now. This is the mission."
The hologram image changed to show a woman. Elektra.
"Elektra Natchios. This is one formidable woman. Unlike your Daredevils or Venoms of this world, you can never be too sure if she will save you or stab you. I've never been too keen on the woman in all honesty but she has proven to be useful in the past. However, today she has managed to seriously piss me off. I have intel that shows she has brought a device into this City that could cause a considerable amount of damage. However, it seems that any scanning equipment available to SHIELD or the Avengers cannot locate it. Trust me, I've tried. Many people would at this point question the existence of such a device. I do not as I also have intel that Elektra is attempting to make a trade that could result in the deaths of every single person in this City."
Nick flicked the pen and the hologram vanished. Nick approached Agent Johnson and placed a hand gently on her shoulder.
"Elektra is capable of a great many things. I'm not sure she's capable of this. Either way, she has created a potential crisis that needs resolving right now. This is your sole mission. Disregard anything else sent your way. This issue isn't going away any time soon and it's going to escalate and get worse before it gets better. Head to the apartment. I've set up some tech there that can get you started. Get some contacts. Follow leads. Shake people down...literally if you have to. I'm trusting you on this. I know and you know that you're more than capable. You are an agent of SHIELD. Protect this City. As of this moment you are going dark. You'll be off the grid as far as SHIELD and the government is concerned. Don't worry about giving them some story about needing some R&R. I'll handle SHIELD. Stay focussed. I'm counting on you. A cab will be here in five to take you to your apartment. I'll be in touch."
With a squeeze of the shoulder, Nick turned and walked off into the rain. He approached the members of the public that were still standing at the police tape, itching with morbid curiosity to see what was going on. Nick raised the tape over his head and disappeared amongst the crowds.
