Epilogue
--2 hours later--
Rain, rain, rain, everywhere agent Johnson was standing under a large tented area. She always thought rain after a battle was almost poetic in the sense that it literally made everything wash away. She couldn’t explain it, but was calming to watch the rain clean the streets. A fresh start and a new beginning was really what New York needed and a simple rainstorm wasn’t going to help out the situation. The rain may have made the streets clean now, but it was temporary like a band on a head wound. The wound still bled, but it was only a matter of time before the blood flowed out and the Band-Aid needed to be replaced.
As the rain fell down Johnson started to pack up the area and make sure any evidence of SHIELD having been present was cleared out before she left the scene. Most non-essential personal had left area and were heading back to HQ. Agent Johnson may have been a level 10 agent, but she always stayed for the clean up. She watched as Fury approached the tent areas. As he entered the area Agent Fury began to speak with her.
"Agent Johnson. Well done. It's been some time since we actually saw each other face to face. All my fault. I apologize. I've been busy for the past few months. Been trying to attract as little attention as possible. Unlike the clowns that decided to act out here today. Thank you for stepping in. If I'd had more notice I'd have sent more of a cavalry in with you. That wouldn't have been necessary as you handled yourself well for which I commend you. However, the job isn't done yet agent. If anything, we're right out of the frying pan and slap bang in the middle of the fire."
Johson was impressed Fury was apologizing for her not having a bigger unit She always moved with a smaller unit. She was part of the Calvary as a result it meant a unit of elite agents and it was smaller then most so they could mobile at any time. Agent Johnson was certain Fury knew about them and was the one who had created them. She at this point realized, Fury had just given her a compliment and was offering more support as if he there was some regret for not doing more.
"Display current New York City crisis Alpha. Confirmed. Displaying current New York City crisis Alpha. What you're seeing is NYC. Over there is an apartment building in Greenwich Village. That is going to be your home for the foreseeable future. Don't worry, it's a nice place and all paid for. I've ensured that most of your belongings have been delivered there. The rest are coming next Thursday. I'm sorry but the delivery vans in this City are just not coherent. You say 1pm Friday, you expect 1pm Friday!"
Agents Johnson looked at the schematics and was ready to work when Fury made the call. She was his number two next to Natasha Agent Johnson was mentored by Fury and Hand picked to be in her position. She was a bit confused about the furniture situation conversation, but understood why Fury was a bit upset.
"I'm sorry. You're right, that's not what is important right now. This is the mission."
Johnson did everything in her control to try to remain composed with the last comment from Fury. As Elektra Natchios popped up in the Holgram Agent Johson studied her, she knew of Elektra, but had never encountered her before.
"Elektra Natchios. This is one formidable woman. Unlike your Daredevils or Venoms of this world, you can never be too sure if she will save you or stab you. I've never been too keen on the woman in all honesty but she has proven to be useful in the past. However, today she has managed to seriously piss me off. I have intel that shows she has brought a device into this City that could cause a considerable amount of damage. However, it seems that any scanning equipment available to SHIELD or the Avengers cannot locate it. Trust me, I've tried. Many people would at this point question the existence of such a device. I do not as I also have intel that Elektra is attempting to make a trade that could result in the deaths of every single person in this City."
Agent Johnson was being given heavy information. She felt Fury’s hand on her shoulder. The weight of the city was now resting on her shoulders as she lurked in the shadows waiting for a call to go active again.
"Elektra is capable of a great many things. I'm not sure she's capable of this. Either way, she has created a potential crisis that needs resolving right now. This is your sole mission. Disregard anything else sent your way. This issue isn't going away any time soon and it's going to escalate and get worse before it gets better. Head to the apartment. I've set up some tech there that can get you started. Get some contacts. Follow leads. Shake people down...literally if you have to. I'm trusting you on this. I know and you know that you're more than capable. You are an agent of SHIELD. Protect this City. As of this moment you are going dark. You'll be off the grid as far as SHIELD and the government is concerned. Don't worry about giving them some story about needing some R&R. I'll handle SHIELD. Stay focused. I'm counting on you. A cab will be here in five to take you to your apartment. I'll be in touch."
Johnson wasn’t much for words she just took her orders. As fury touched her shoulder one more time. She looked him in the eye and spoke to him before he exited.
“I won’t let you down sir.”
With that Fury took off into the streets and a few moments later a cab appeared and agent Johnson stepped inside to head for life as a hidden S.H.I.E.L.D agent.
