The still, tense silence followed between them, Galina did not let her resolve break. She didn't even need to know who he was to recognize and acknowledge him as a soldier. She wasn't thrilled about a live escort mission regarding a timid researcher who in a place like this was probably as much a danger to himself if panic ever took hold. She didn't put all her trust in her unexpected if temporary and by mutual goal ally in the loosest term, either, but survival was now the top priority after things had gone so poorly back in the hotel. Now that Bullseye had caused a disturbance she could only hope those sitting comfortably in the Dragon Palace didn't catch wind of what exactly was going on or all three of them were going to have very sizeable bounties on their heads. Galina barely stifled a laugh at his words regarding her. If he knew what the Russian government and the Bratva both thought of her he'd never make that comment. On the contrary anyone closely tied to Russia would likely try and capture her with the kind of reward the government would pay for her return, but she wasn't about to give this American dog any ideas. "Likewise. Follow me and make sure our friend here stays close. Don't try to sneak off," she warned, her hand protectively on the gun she'd holstered. Immediately, she led the way to one of the paths and into the thick foliage, a dirt path being the only indicator of where to go. There would be some forks ahead, but she knew which ones to take. Galina knew she couldn't overpower the other soldier in a straight-up fight, and her armor was damaged so she didn't know how well it'd serve her until she had a moment to find out, but the directions she'd had for plan B through the jungle's paths were known only to her unless he wished to take his chances asking the people they just fled to guide him through. She knew a few designated 'rest stops' her employer had set in advance as well, the first one wouldn't be far. TAG Rift

[/div] Walker followed, nudging the scientist any time he'd slow down and once grabbing him by the elbow to prevent the man from tumbling over a tree root. Ever vigilant he kept one hand on his pistol and occasionally readjusted his shield, fully expecting the woman to be leading him into a trap. Not to mention that lunatic Bullseye could pop up at any moment. If so I certainly hope her bucket can withstand the onslaught, because there's nothing but potential weapons in this jungle. That freak could make use of rocks, branches, or even chuck a damned monkey at us for all I know, he thought as he swatted at the umpteenth millionth insect. "So, humor me. What is a Ruskie with some knock off Iron Jerk armor doing in this hellhole? Don't your kind usually decide to pick a fight with Stark and knock over a couple blocks worth of real estate in the process? I imagine the likes of General Shatalov did it in an attempt to prove Mother Russia had superior technology in a metaphorical measuring contest. But the Cold War is over and you are here, trudging through jungle on an island of killers and thieves. Pretty far cry from tussling with the Golden Avenger," he said. "Or is Widow not the only Russian broad he gives a pass too? Normally he'd shut you down faster than he could a bar." Pausing for a moment as he heard a noise, he reminded himself it was technically a jungle and he had no idea what animals existed within. Probably just a bird, he hoped. shadejak

Galina scoffed in disgust at the mention of General Shatalov. The man sought to restore Stalinism in some twisted belief it was Russia at the height of power when it was more a matter of one man sitting on the shoulders and backs of everyone else. They never found him, but long been deemed a traitor and a war criminal. The only thing waiting for him would have been a bullet in the skull in a public execution if he was lucky. Her shoulders slumped slightly but she said nothing. She'd committed a serious crime against her home country as well when she'd violated rules of engagement against someone she felt deserved death. Her own fate was likely a detention facility in Siberia if she ever got deported back there if they chose to spare her. "Words of a man from a country full of entitled, miniature-Bolsheviks?" she sneered with a bitter smile. She had her own grievances with hers, after all, she was where she was, now. "I'm a soldier, but I find sometimes those who give orders should not, but they don't like it when it's pointed out," she said. "..."She heard it, too. Blue eyes scanned the entire area. What she knew of Bullseye, though, gave her only the slightest relief. "He won't. Not yet. He'd want to be seen first." she said to the scared scientist. Unfortunately, that wasn't entirely comforting, as often when you saw Bullseye, you were essentially already dead. Where was he, though? What was taking him so long? Was he hoping to draw this out, toy with his food? Galina wasn't sure whether he had them and was now as a cat circling its prey, or if it was indeed just wildlife... TAG Rift webdevil

"And evidently, so do you," came a woman's voice followed quickly by a sai that embedded itself into a tree missing Galina's head by inches. The blow was so sudden and so sharp that only the most elite of eyes would recognize the sai in the tree as a warning shot and not a true intention to kill. If either of the two dime store Iron Man and Captain America rejects bothered to look up, they would have noticed a keen set of eyes leering out from them in the darkness. Eyes that were clad in raven hair as black as the night around them, but more noticeable than that was her garb. Seemingly elegant (and impractical) swaths of fine silk wrapped into a makeshift gi that signified her as one of the Ninja. But anybody in the spy community knew her (if only by reputation) for the sai alone: Elektra.

Walker's jaw tightened and his eyes narrowed as he saw their unexpected guest. Terrific. Daredevil's ninja tramp. Because I didn't have enough problems already without being reminded of that jackass, he thought. Truth was he didn't know what she was there for. Elektra, an assassin and one of the most expensive at that, was not a team player. She was a killer for hire and if there were any morals or ethics that mattered more to her than the price she'd been paid, the files he'd seen said nothing of them. Did the ones who want the asset dead send her just in case Bullseye screwed up? Are there other deep pockets paying up to get their hands on Poindexter here? Or would the Commission have done it because they didn't trust me to do the job? he wondered. All were fair questions and the Commission on Superhuman Activities was not above using underworld contacts to do the dirty work. Considering he had been told in no uncertain terms that this mission was a final olive branch and last chance to prove himself after the fiasco that was Hellzone, he couldn't discount the idea that the suits were hedging their bets and figured the assassin could either complete the mission or take out the asset to prevent him from ending up in enemy hands. Of course she could just as easily be working for HYDRA, AIM, or some other terrorist network if they doled out enough cash. The fact she's talking rather than trying to kill the Ruskie and I means she wants something, he thought. "Bravo lady, you sneaky ninja'd your way close enough to slit our throats. You haven't so I assume that means you want something. What is it? I've already hit my limit for chit-chat today, so if you are here to fight let's get to it. If not say whatever it is you have to say so I can get moving. I've already got one super villainess to keep an eye on and would rather not make it two." TAG: shadejak webdevil

Galina cocked an eyebrow at her soldier companion's choice of words regarding her. "...A fair assessment, tovarishch," she said dryly. "Yet you're not wrong... So tell me, what has brought you here, Natchios? Are you and Bullseye working together or is this a competition between you?"It did concern her, as this could potentially mean Bullseye would not be far. If they were working together this could get far more difficult regarding keeping the researcher alive. If he died, she didn't get paid, and to be frank, she didn't want him to die, either. Then there was also the chance if they were competing. Bullseye intended to kill the man and anyone who got in his way. Heck, with having faced her and her temporary ally, he'd likely he'd try and kill them both and Elektra if only so he can have all the leverage in the world to triple his fees with his employers. "If it's a fight you want," she said, hand at her belt for Armor Matrix ready to activate it if threatened. "It's a fight you'll get. Ask that lunatic with the black and white costume next you see him."TAG Rift webdevil

Elektra did not give a response to either the dime store Captain America, nor the Russian. On the other hand she let her eyes linger on her sai for just a moment and allowed their bickering at her to be that momentary distraction until - - click.Without warning, what seemed to be grassland underneath their feet suddenly dropped wide open, revealing a wicked sized chasm roughly twenty feet on either side, forming into a sloping chute that would have them slide all the way down. Further and further the tunnel went, the slide was sharp and sheer, too angled to get a proper foothold or anchor point. True, thought Elektra as she retreated back into the shadows, the Captain America reject would probably try to use that shield of his to break his fall, but the sudden stop would probably injure his quarry to where he'd need medical attention, and even if he stopped himself, he wouldn't have time to climb out. It mattered not. For her part, she was going to be waiting for them at the end of the road anyways.

"Oh that bi--" John's dislike of Elektra was already fairly large. She was an assassin. Arrogant. Stuck her nose into business that did not concern her, just like her hornheaded boy toy back in Hell's Kitchen. And just like the devil she belonged in a straight jacket or behind bars. Being dropped unexpectedly when he was already having to deal with a crazy Russian mercenary who desperately wished she was Iron Man did nothing to improve his opionion of the woman. For a moment he contemplated trying to stop his fall. With no way to actually grab onto anything or wedge himself in such a way as to avoid the fall, his best bet would have been to use the shield, the only thing on hand capable of biting into the metal of the stupid slide-trap, but if he did he couldn't be sure he could blunt the fall of the scientist. More importantly he had to make sure that whatever the chute opened up into was not going to be an opportunity for Galina, Bullseye, Elektra, or any other obstacle to abscond with the little nerd that was the source of all this trouble to begin with. And so he simply allowed himself to be pushed along, waiting as he tried to time a potential shield toss that may absorb the force of impact for the scientist so that he could still stand a chance of delivering the asset relatively unscathed, First the idiot of Hell's Kitchen screws up the Nuke operation and now his skank shows up interfering with my new mission. I swear these primadonna's have it out for me. When this is done, I am going to have to reach out to some of my contacts. See if the ninja witch can be put brought down a peg or two. For now though, I just hope Poindexter doesn't break at the bottom of this.

Before she could react, a telltale click that could have meant anything was heard, and the ground beneath them promptly gave way, sending both sliding downward into a pit of some sort. Galina was, momentarily, deeply confused. Where did Elektra find the time to do this? She cursed in Russian. No, it wasn't some trap, it was an entrance, an entrance to somewhere hidden within the island. There were many caches and other hideaways smugglers used to stash things for their deals and it seemed Elektra had found and rented one for her use. "What do you want with us?! Answer me!" she snapped, putting herself between the scientist and where she last recalled Elektra to be. She could have simply armored up and try to make a trip to the beach with the scientist in tow, but it'd result in a fight between her and US Agent, and he was, to her understanding, superhuman as well and then there was the shield. It'd be too risky, and with it being evident Elektra had lead them here there was no telling what else she had handy that could impede her, plus preserving the man's life was her top priority going all out would only endanger him. "This place is artificial. It must be one of its caches, a safehouse," she said aloud. "Are you attempting to take this man from us? Even you may find that difficult."tag Rift webdevil

Elektra was already there waiting for them by the time they landed on a crash mat that cushioned the fall and the sudden stop that came with a turbo chute like that. They were several miles away from their previous location, not that it mattered to one who could seemingly appear and disappear into thin air. The room itself was merely an antechamber with storage racks and lockers (all fully stocked with arms, armor, and supplies) littered around the corners of the room. Elektra merely leaned on one of the far racks closest to the door. "And here I thought the woman would start asking the right questions before the dimwit who gets his ass kicked by greater men every Tuesday," she said coolly before opening the door and leaving it in the most non-chalant kind of way, leaving them to wonder just where the hell they were. She left the door open, which led down a small corridor with six different doors. Four of the six rooms clearly led off towards a modest, if somewhat spartan, living quarters comfortable enough to live and hunker down in for several months without complaint, one door was locked, tho given its placement, likely led towards the locked down entrance and exit. The sixth room, furthest down the corridor from the antechamber, was a sizeable and spacious monitor womb with all the security measures money could buy. Elektra appeared to be sitting down deep into her work, sweat glistening from her skin to give her a glow (which to any observer was odd since she did not seem to have that a second ago. Unless the one who greeted them was not really there...)
