Mettle was nervous as he paced in front of the building he had learned to call home. His friend Mercury was coming over to visit and he was weirdly nervous about it, not for any romantic reasons but if Mettle had to guess it was probably because he hadn't had any friends come over since his arrival. He shrugged, thinking that made sense as really no one from home had visited and the other people he knew were the other teenagers who lived and trained there.
He ran one hand over his head when he saw her, riding a bike that seemed worse for wear but hopefully still got the job done, and he waved to her, causing her to smile as she came to a stop. "Hey, sorry I'm late" she said as she gave her friend a hug. "School ran late, I brought snacks though" she said, hoisting up her black denim backpack. "Dude, snacks are awesome!" Mettle agreed as he held the door open for her and followed her in. "Come on this way, my room's at the end" he invited, waiting for her to catch up before leading the way. "How was school?" he asked, leading to a sigh from Mercury. "It was fine, combat training is more fun. That's tomorrow." she replied, stepping inside Mettle's room. "Not bad, dude, cool posters." She did grin as she saw a Dazzler poster and pointed it out. "She teaches music at our school, even played for one of our prom/homecoming things." Mettle gaped a little and said "Really? Do you think I could get her autograph sometime?"
Mercury dumped out all the sweet snacks she'd bought and picked out a caramel chocolate bar. "Sure, you'd have to come to the school though. Oh, maybe you guys could do a field trip?" she suggested, "do you think the adults here would be okay with that?" Mettle paused for a moment as he picked out a bar with coconut in it and then nodded. "I don't see why not, I'll ask them later. Besides, we teen groups need to at least know each other, what if we end up battling the same enemies?" Mercury laughed and said "That would be cool! I've fought Doc Octavius before and tried to fight Doom with a friend, that last one didn't go so well." Mettle blinked and said "Wow! I'm jealous, wish I'd been there! I haven't gotten to fight anyone other than the simulations in training." Mercury smiled back and said "I would like to compare our trainings, see how realistic yours is. Maybe another day though, today's about relaxing."
The two of them finished their candy and Mercury offered to give Mettle half of her stash. "I bet the other teenagers here would like some of these, you could hand them out" she said, to which Mettle agreed. "Thanks" he said and then they got to talking about music and bands they both liked. After a while, Mercury hopped up and said "I gotta get back, curfew hits early during the week. I had fun hanging out." "Me too" Mettle said, walking her out and watching to make sure she got on her bike okay. After she rode out of sight, he walked back into the building and went to find his other team mates, to tell them about the snacks.
