They were the Runaways. Being used to running was kind of built in to their group dynamic. But the luxury of a decent plan had not been afforded to them as often as she'd have liked in the past. And so Nico had spent a little of her spare time in planning. Studying maps (mostly Google Streetview. Who used paper maps any more?) and walking around the city in person, she took a notepad with her and kept a list of good places they could head to for short term laying low, as well as considering options for longer duration stuff. Maybe their current lair was great, but they never lasted forever. Plus it was possible there was somewhere nicer out there in this big tangled mess of a city. She missed the Hostel back in LA, though. That had been everything they'd needed. It had felt like 'home' for them all. Maybe they'd get that again here in NY. Maybe their current place would become that. But better to be safe than sorry.
There were a few places that she'd identified which were not all that far from their current hideout, though she didn't want them too close of course. That would only mean they needed to keep running. Ironically a closer look at the outsides of a few places made it clear that they were never going to be anything better than an overnight stay on the way to somewhere else. One of them had seemed promising initially, until she'd headed inside and found it already in use by a surprising number of homeless people. There had been a few promising looking ones in Mutant Town, but it seemed that much of that had been damaged in some superhero fight or other and was being near enough completely rebuilt. Yay for adults wrecking stuff! And they still claimed the kids were the irresponsible ones?!
The next one on her list had seemed promising. A decent sized property in Greenwich village. Karolina and Klara would surely like the 'Green', and Nico quietly approved of the 'witch' part. But as she approached the supposedly 'Starbucks - Coming Soon' location on Bleecker Street, The Staff Of One - currently sleeping inside her - felt like it was screaming a warning, so she decided to not find out just why that was, and instead turned back the way she'd came.
In the end there had been no great new locations found, but she'd familiarised herself with a few good targets for emergency teleportation spells, places to head right after, options for supplies and so on, which then diverted into a brief bout of window shopping, going through a few clothing stores mostly looking for ideas for more outfits for herself. But before she headed back home, she did duck into a couple of thrift stores to get a few 'new' items for herself and the others. Between those and some new thread and so on, she'd be able to turn them into quite decent items over the next few days. Whilst her enhanced powers courtesy of the Witchbreaker seemed more able to hand small scale stuff like redecoration and clothing and such, she still enjoyed doing so herself.
