" That'd be me. The Spider-Man of tomorrow, here to save today... "

Tony Stark stood staring at a screen as data flowed across it. His brow furrowed as he ran the test for a third time just to make certain he was seeing what he thought he was. " "Boss, I'm running the program again but I can already tell you the results are not going to change. This is real. I can recommends some actions to try and correct this, but I also have to remind you that you have a briefing to get to and an appointment set up with..." his operating system F.R.I.D.A.Y began to say. "No. There are no meetings, no briefings, no bureaucratic red tape nonsense. You can send an automated message letting General What's His Nuts that something has come up and I have to reschedule. Now give me the results again, nice and slow. Pretend I'm not me and you have to explain it to someone simple," he snapped. "Yessir. Approximately eight hours ago a routine systems check on the Stark Data Spire was run. Most individuals would not have noticed anything out of the norm. But..." she began. "But my people are not most people. I only hire the best." "Yes and as such they realized that there has been a breach. Not a virus as all security measures and firewalls are operating as expected.""They should, I designed them myself." "Do you want to keep interrupting or shall I continue?"Tony sighed, pinching the spot between his eyes. Even the artificial women in my life call me on my crap. Wonderful. "As I was saying it appears the data was accessed on site and downloaded to a portable tablet likely one issued in house to technicians. The data downloaded was then uploaded, broadcast to a location after being routed through multiple satellites. It's final destination is on screen." F.R.I.D.A.Y explained. "S.H.I.E.L.D. records indicate that this location has been known to intelligence for some time but was deemed low priority. It appears to be a decommissioned Air Force Base that has been converted and is now under the control of an AIM offshoot.""And we are sure that this data is all that was taken?" he asked. "Reasonably certain. It is an old project that was in the prototype phase prior to your change of heart in regards to weapons manufacturing. Once you decided to move in a new direction, you felt the risk of this project outweighed the potential benefits and mothballed all work related to it. Over the years all physical properties were destroyed, but the schematics remained embedded in the special projects files within the Stark Data Spire."With his jaw gripped tight he turned towards his desk. "F.R.I.D.A.Y reach Agent Morse, tell her to assemble a team and that she has access to anybody she needs, that I will clear it. Then patch me through," he ordered. "I need a wardrobe change." ______________________________________________________________________________ Aboard a QuinJet roughly an hour later...
A hologram of Iron Man stood facing Mockingbird and her team. "Everyone ready? Good, alright listen up dear hearts because you know I hate repeating myself. A few hours ago I became aware that someone or someones have stolen designs from the Stark Data Spire. Now, it's nothing like armor or missiles, but it could be just as bad. Long story short back when I was hyper focused on changing the world, it was not just weapons I had in mind. I had people working for me that had big dreams about saving the planet, not in an internet eco warrior nonsense way, but by doing something meaningful. As such work was started on a means of using atmospheric manipulation to bring water to drought stricken locations, maybe turn desert into lush farmland, that kind of thing. All good in theory, but after I realized just how my inventions could be misused I started thinking of other types of applications. Things like whipping up hurricanes to wipe out nations, tornadoes to tear apart military bases, or incinerating people with lightning. Essentially...I may have figured out how to weaponize the sky even if that was not my initial intention. My bad." Iron Man explained. The hologram flexed it's hand and he was replaced by a holographic map. "What you see here kiddoes is a base being operated by an AIM offshoot. That's where the data was beamed. As to who did it, well a review of Stark Industry records indicate it was done by an employee, an employee who just so happens to be a perfect facial match to Kearson Dewitt. Now who is Kearson Dewitt you ask? Well honestly I almost forgot myself. I tangled with him a time or two back during the lovely little spats the media called the Armor Wars? Not important really. Narcissistic D-bag scientist who had his own suit of armor he called the Overlord. Point is...he's dead. Or so I thought. So either this is him back from the grave and lets face it, who of us hasn't done that a time or two? Or it is someone pretending to be him so that his connections to AIM could be exploited."The Iron Man hologram reappeared as he continued. "Mockingbird here is aware of some intelligence that we've been keeping compartmentalized. Strictly need to know. Now she probably has a good idea what I am thinking when it comes to someone looking like someone but not being that someone. And if that's the case then we have a lot bigger problems than just AIM. I'll let her fill you in on the particulars at such a time she deems it necessary. But end of the day I need you to get in, neutralize AIM forces, and recover the data if possible. Also, apprehend Dewitt or whoever he really is if you see him. Oh and no pressure or anything, but this kind of needs doing as quietly as possible. You are essentially going to be right next door to Latveria in a country already on high alert because of the Teapot in a Skirt next door. Not to mention the United States has strained relations with them hence there being an abandoned Air Force Base for AIM to move into. So...try and keep it quiet. Think of it like this: what would Uncle Nicky Fury do?"

Doreen didn't go on many SHIELD missions these days. What with her studying for college, she didn't have as much time as she'd like to hero, let alone to go on missions with SHIELD. Of course they knew this and only called on her occasionally, when her talents or experience lent themselves particularly well to the mission in question. Like today, for example. Whilst she was still studying computer science, she was extremely capable by most people's standards. Plus, she'd dealt with secret AIM bases before. She had experience with the Latverian ruler, Doom. Plus, she knew all about the 'need to know' stuff Tony was talking about, and knew better than to bring that up around anyone else. She knew, he knew she knew, and she knew why it was so important to avoid talking about it. The mission sounded... odd, though. Someone managed to hack into possibly the most secure database on the planet and they got away with it, but were tracked back to a specific location? Something seemed wrong there, either they were too focused on getting the data they wanted to conceal their tracks, or they WANTED to be tracked. Or they were just oblivious to even being detected at all... This was going to puzzle her until she found out whatever it was that made sense of everything. Until then: Agent Green AKA Squirrel Girl was ready to do the same as usual with an AIM base.

Mockingbird stood at attention, listening to Tony Stark talk about this mission they were going on, and to all appearances, she was acting normal, but she noticed her hands twitching and took a couple of breaths to calm down. She'd known they were around but being that they could make themselves look like anyone else made it difficult to determine who could be trusted. This could and had, for a while, led to her being somewhat paranoid but she had made great progress in not letting her fear take over, but now she had a feeling that for the first time since her capture a few years ago, she would have to deal with the Skrulls.
At least she had been given carte blanche to form a team, and she was already relieved to have Doreen at her side, as well as others she felt she could trust. Once Tony was done talking, Bobbi turned around and and said "I won't lie, this is serious, and not just because of the information that was stolen. If someone is impersonating Dewitt, then we need to figure that out, and capture the man alive." Bobbi paused, as she knew she couldn't just out the secret that Skrulls were living among them, the panic would not be able to be stopped. She then said "Think of it like we're going after someone who could be able to change their appearance, but we don't know for sure if that's the case."
Taking another breath, she said "I think we need the buddy system on this mission. Pair up in teams of two people and stick close to each other, also pick a code word in case you do get separated." She didn't want to panic any of her team but just in case they had infiltrated the team, they needed to be careful. Then she turned back to the hologram of Tony Stark and asked "Any further instructions, sir?"

Time, you have everything, share it with me. Dark is the mystery. How silently the Kestrel is flying.
Major Sybil Tan stood on board the Quinjet, already outfitted in her gear that she would normally wear in the field. Her helmet was retracted, but the arm guards, foot talons, and chest and back pieces only hinted at her suit's capability. She looked at the hologram of Iron Man as he explained the mission.
Apparently, he had created a weather device that could have been used to help humanity, but also potentially as a weapon as well. Truthfully, she wasn't really surprised by that because just about anything could be turned into a weapon if it was used in a certain way, no matter how good the initial intention may have been. But, apparently the designs were stolen by an offshoot of AIM and someone named Kearson Dewitt, who was thought to have been dead. Apparently Dewitt had his own suit of armor called Overlord.
The bigger problem with this situation was that they were going to be next to Latveria, so that meant that everything they had to do needed to be covert . . . extremely covert. Mockingbird basically stated that if there was a chance someone was impersonating Dewitt, they needed to capture them alive and figure them out. But, she also mentioned there was a chance that they could shape-shift and look like someone else. That caused her to quirk an eyebrow and start mentally running through a list of potential shape shifters that AIM might have been involved with, or they could have hired, that would have also fit that bill.
"Understood," she responded with military precision, immediately thinking of a code word that she could use to identify herself if separated from the others. She then turned back to see if there were any further instructions from the holographic image of Iron Man.
Swift is the Kestrel's flight, straight to the heart.

The hologram nodded in agreement with Mockingbird's assessment. "She's right. We need Dewitt or whoever he is alive. He could have incredibly valuable intelligence. And the whole pairing up thing sounds good too. We can't afford to lose anybody on this one, not only because you all like living, but also because the political implications if you are discovered or captured will be huge. We've maintained good ties with Symkaria or as good as can be expected. Truth is though they would have shot down an official request to launch this operation. They are concerned that knowledge of foreign superbeings on their soil may undermine the tough guy savior of the people image that their mercenaries have presented. Well, that and they worry that S.H.I.E.L.D. being seen openly cooperating with the government may ruffle feathers over in Latveria and with the region being a powder keg already there's no reason to throw fuel on the fire. Not to mention that I have enough people wanting my head on a plate without ticking off another country. I already have to check under the bed for HYDRA agents, criminal associates of our wonderful Commander-in-Chief, random leftover Ultron forms, and the occasional knock off competitor armor. I'd rather not add Silver Sable to the list."As the Quinnjet activated a cloaking device, Stark once more addressed the team. "Alright people. From here on out I am leaving you in Mockingbird's capable hands. Once you are in range of the site comms with me and all of S.H.I.E.L.D. will go dark. I've left a gift for you though. You'll have an operating system at your disposal. Think of it as a copy of a copy, a subnode if you will, of J.A.R.V.I.S. It'll guide you, conduct scans, and offer advice along the way. Good luck and look forward to the debrief. I'll even provide catering. Iron Man out."As the hologram winked out, it was replaced by a pulsing blue sphere. "Hello. Mister Stark has requested I aid you in any way possible during this mission. I have taken the liberty of syncing to your individual comms. and will monitor activity around the area and in the base once entry is secured. Intelligence indicates that most resistance will be in the form of AIM operatives, but we cannot rule out the possibility of mechanized suits, drones, and possibly even an active Armiger or two. Do use caution. Agent Mockingbird? If you've anything that needs to be said privately, I have already patched into the secondary line."

Simple mission, a small team, and JARVIS as the 'guy in the chair'? This was sounding like it'd be awesome! But for all the potential for this to turn into a chaotic mess, of course. But the promise of a catered debriefing? Hopefully she'd be able to get a full meal (or two) out of it. Never turn down free food, especially not when it was all but guaranteed to be decent quality.
So with a goal of taking out an AIM base, recovering some data, capturing a probable impostor, and avoiding a messy diplomatic incident... Doreen considered the various ways it could go wrong. She was already up to around seventeen, depending on whether you counted variations of one disaster separately or all as one. The presence of JARVIS possibly meant they could prevent a few of them from getting too out of hand, but on the other hand it was possible that this whole thing was a trap anyway so just deploying into the area of operations would count as a disaster. Eighteen, then.
Did they have squirrels in the area? Hopefully they would since Tippy could find her some backup for extra sets of eyes, and all the usual stuff that the Squirrel Scouts accomplished for her.
As the Iron Man hologram indicated the end of his briefing for them, she gave a quick salute just in time before he vanished, and listened in turn to JARVIS' follow-up, waiting for Agent Morse to say whatever she had to say as mission lead before they had to go to work.

Mockingbird was pleased that everyone on her team seemed to be taking the situation seriously, except of course for Tony's humor. She didn't outright laugh, but instead smirked at his comments, only adding a "Thank you sir" right before he logged out. She did however smile at the operating system he'd given them, listening to the somehow soothing tones, though when he let her know there was a second channel open for more private conversations, she simply replied "I will let you know, thank you". She didn't want to speak her mind right in front of everyone, but it was nice to have a listening ear, especially since she might misjudge things, after all, appearances could be deceiving.
She then turned around and faced her team, saying "All right guys, we're on our own from here. The plan is to try to recover at least the stolen data, and of course if we can capture Dewitt. Again, we may potentially have a shapeshifting person, which is why the buddy system is so important. Try to stay within at least seeing distance of your partner and come up with a code word that you can give each other if you do happen to lose sight of each other." Pausing for a moment, she then continued. "Stealth is very important to this mission, we should be able to sneak in and out with no issues but if you encounter anything that throws you off, inform me or your partner right away!"
Bringing up the map of the building, she went over a couple of possibilities as to where the data might be and where Dewitt might be, before asking "Does anyone have any questions?"

Sybil listened as the briefing concluded with a few final words from Iron Man's hologram before it disengaged and was replaced by a glowing blue sphere that seemed to be connected to JARVIS. The voice that emanated from it let them know that it synced to their individual comms and would monitor activity around the area and in the base. Most of the resistance apparently would be coming from AIM, but they could also face mech and drones.
Agent Morse had reminded them about the buddy system and the code word, reiterated the need for stealth, but then asked if there were any questions. "Yes, ma'am," Sybil spoke up for a moment. "I notice that there are only three of us present for this briefing. Do we anticipate any additional agents joining us on this mission? We will not be able to effectively split up into teams of two unless we have another agent join us." It was a very logical question considering the number of agents currently present for this mission.

JARVIS chimed in briefly as he answered Kestral's question, by addressing Mockingbird. "Mr. Stark of course wanted to allow you as much control over the mission as possible and therefore allowed you to assemble your own team. There is an asset active in the region should you wish to make use of him, but his inclusion in this mission is at your discretion. If you think he can be of use you may call him in if need be, although there is always the possibility that not everyone will be, shall we say, comfortable with his presence. I will upload the relevant files to you now, but make no mistake he will obey your commands should you find it necessary to include him."While he uploaded the data to her, he simultaneously pulled up a topical map overlay of the area. "As you can all see, these yellow portions indicate four watchtowers constructed on site, each with high tech sensors and anti-air weaponry installed. Intelligence suggests that they include ionic burst canons that may disrupt electronics in a similar fashion to EMP devices. The fencing itself has been electrified and AIM patrols in four groups of two, each individual carrying traditional weaponry as well as deployable shields and flamethrowers."
The hologram shifted again, showing the outline of a multi-legged mechanical weapon that moved in a fashion similar to an insect.
"This is the latest iteration of the AIM Armiger. The largest of them are manned by crews of four to six scientists including the pilot. They have basic energy weapons as well as shielding. They are essentially highly mobile tanks. We believe there to be at least two of them on site with multiple smaller autonomous units roughly the size of SUVs patrolling the main grounds. That is to say nothing of the armed drones patrolling overhead."
The image changed once more showing the wireframe outline of a hanger. "This hanger is your main objective. Located between two smaller hangers, it has been converted. You must enter it and access the underground network of tunnels. Scans could not adequately determine how deep the facility is, but suggest something at least as deep as a smaller skyscraper is tall running beneath the hanger. There are multiple tunnels that act as escape routes, but once you reach the sixth level you will start to encounter the various labs. It is unknown exactly what experiments they are working on, but considering this offshoot of AIM once called itself Advanced Ideas in Genocide it is safe to assume they are all deadly, be it biological agents or cybernetic monstrosities. Do use caution."Returning to the spherical shape, JARVIS added "The levels of resistance within is unknown, but Dewitt himself or who or whatever is pretending to be Kearson Dewitt, will not put up much personal resistance unless of course he reaches his armor. It is tall, bulky, and on the slow side but might not be of much use in the confined spaces below the facility. Assuming of course the organization has built the labs to standard dimensions which is honestly an unknown."

A simple enough mission brief, with an equally simple objective. Naturally no plan survived contact with the enemy, but if this went properly they'd already be long gone before anyone knew they'd been there. Already they were at the 'any questions' portion of the brief though, and it seemed that Kestrel hadn't heard much about Agent Green, AKA Squirrel Girl, and her usual modus operandi.
"I'm assuming you two are pairing up, and me and Tippy are doing the same? We've taken down AIM bases before, so Tippy's got experience here too. She's had my back more times than I care to count."
With that, a squirrel that had been on a table nearby enjoying a bowl of nuts paused eating to chitter something, saluting briefly, before resuming her meal.
"That's a yes. I assume neither of you speak Squirrelese? She'll salute to confirm her identity if you need her to. And I'll go with... um... Voluble. It was on my word of the day calendar a few days ago, and I've been dying for a chance to use it ever since."
As the holograms appeared and the briefing continued, she turned her attention to that fully. AIM goons were fairly easy to take down, but their tech was quite often more of a concern. Electric fences were no real obstacle, but robot spider tanks? flying drones? This was different. Still, it was nothing she'd not faced before. Even if their tech was always advancing and this meant she couldn't be sure of how much of a threat they really were any more. But it was going to be fun finding out!

Mockingbird was going to speak up as soon as Kestrel raised her question, but both Agent Green and Jarvis spoke up, one of them indicating there was an agent/asset in the region, before sending files to her. Upon opening them, she was surprised but also pleased, but didn't say anything at the moment as Jarvis continued to explain some of the difficulties they might encounter. Taking careful mental notes, once she was free to respond she said "Yes Kestrel, I don't believe you've been introduced to Agent Green's team, and also you will pair up with me. We will need to be careful but I truly believe we will be in and out of there before they can raise their defenses!"
Bobbi knew she was risking things going south by her positive talk, after all, no one really knows what would happen and it always seems to have some form of trap or unexpected snag, but she was confident in her team and said "If anyone has any further questions, let me know but I think we should get on the plane. It'll take us a while to get to where we need to be, and we also need to be cloaked so the enemy doesn't see us approaching." She was already figuring out how to approach their asset if needed and whether to do so before they approached the AIM base, so she simply motioned toward the waiting jet, staying behind in case anyone wanted to approach her in confidence.
