Carol was walking in the snowy sidewalk of new york as she enjoyed the winter cold. Things were bittersweet right now. She had at least softcut some of her friends, had resigned from the team she had all but considered a family, but perhaps it was necessary. She had finally spoken her mind, had finally expressed some deep-seated trauma that had haunted her for years. Tony and the like would probably think that she had only said some of the stuff she did under the influence of the Shadow King, but no, the remarks that came out of her mouth were her own, and finally letting out the burden that she had kept for so long felt...liberating. For the first time in a long time, she felt truly free. The Shadow King however seemed to not be enjoying things....at least not the cold.
"Bragh...I don't see how you Americans can function in this sort of climate."
Carol couldn't help but giggle. "Aww what's the matter Sugah, you act like you've never seen snow before."
The shadow king shivered. "You have a better chance of seeing an extinction-level meteorite heading towards Earth than you are to see snow in Egypt."
"Why are you shivering exactly? You're inside me and I feel just fine."
"You've heard the expression of someone eating grapes so sour it sets your teeth on edge, right? It's the same principle."
Carol once again giggled until they could hear what sounded like yelling. walking through an ally. Carol saw what appeared to be an older woman beating a young woman. It didn't take Carol long to realize what was going on and when she did her brow furrowed and she lept into action.
"Hey, back off."
The older woman sneered. "Step out of this tubby. This little tramp has been stiffing me."
Carol could not help but shake her head. Still she didn't want this to end violently...yet.
"Look, how much does she owe you? I'll pay it and we can all walk away from this situation."
"Oh no, it don't work that way sister. If I let this little tramp get away with stiffing me then others will get ideas! She's been Naughty and naughty girls should be punished!"
"Shut up." Carol growled. Man or woman people like this disgusted her. Despite Carol's warnings however, the woman would not stop ranting...at least until Carol grabbed her by the chin and lifted her off the ground.
"I said shut up!" The Shadow King could not help but smile. This was where he got to have his fun. He and Carol wasted no time in digging through the woman's memories pulling out every fear she had feeding off of it and then using it to send every bit of pain she inflicted on others back at her. Sure the woman had a sob story most people like her did. But a sob story was no excuse for abusing others. A grin started to form on Carol's face.
"How it you put it...Naughty girls should be punished." Carol's eyes glowed a shadowy blue color, and her form took on a more demonic appearance resembling that of the Shadow King
The woman screamed as black energy erupted from her eyes. In a matter of moments she had felt every bit of mental pain she inflicted on others and by the time carol dropped her, she was left a trembling wreck. Carol took a deep breath took a deep breath. As much as she hated to admit it, she could see why Shadow King enjoyed doing this. Something about really giving thugs a taste of their own medicine...felt thrilling.
The poor girl in the meantime slowly approached the now twitching older woman. "Did you...?"
"Nah, a few days in an institute and she'll be lucid again...hopefully she'll have a drop of empathy."
Carol called the cops and quickly left the scene after answering some questions. She looked down and noticed an icy reflection of the shadow king he couldn't help but nod in satisfaction. Perhaps playing the role of the hero could be a fun change of pace Afterall.
