While attempting to investigate changes being made to his timeline, Miguel O’Hara the Spider-Man of 2099 has been stranded in the present, but he isn’t the only refugee from that future and the others have far less benevolent plans!
In attempt to distance Miguel somewhat from Peter I thought it might be interesting to do a storyline dealing with the fallout of his being in the here and now and continuing the mystery of who is behind altering the past in the first place. I imagine this could go on for several threads and build up to a big reveal.
We start by having ordinary criminals like gangbangers, mafia, and perhaps the likes of the Maggia sporting weapons and technology that is far too advanced for this time-period. Although he doesn’t want to interfere in things too much and does not have contacts beyond Peter Parker, Miguel is forced to team-up with heroes and put together a small team to try and rid the streets of these devices before they end up altering the present and his future too much. And while street toughs and wise guys sporting future tech is bad enough, we could always kick it up another level by having the heroes confront some of the 2099 refugee villains or perhaps by having modern day supervillains acquire tech and weapons from the future (perhaps even some of their 2099 counterparts) bringing their destruction and terror to whole new level!
Along the way, we can discover clues as we work towards figuring out who is behind altering the past and trying to save both the present and the future! I personally think it will be interesting not only because we can tackle 2099 based issues without actually having to travel time to get there, but because we’ll get some interesting character interactions. How will the heroes feel about a Spider-Man that isn’t the Spider-Man they all know? How will they react to learning aspects of the future? Will they even want to help Miguel preserve his world? Will his secrecy about the future and his identity be too much for a team to function? Will a hero with good intentions be too tempted by the futuristic tech to allow it to be destroyed?
Also if its allowed players that so desire could temporarily take on 2099 villains the team must face.
So, who wants to leap into the future, today?
