Obsession Full Name: Ember Frost
Super Hero/Villain Name: Obsession
Gender: Female
Age: 21
Occupation: Singer
Team Affiliation: None
General Appearance: Ember is a tall woman with blonde hair and blue eyes. Notably, she's very feminine, with smooth skin, a thin body, and curves in all the right places. Despite all of that though, she's fairly average-looking; she's a bit of a baby-face, her chest is a modest size, her eyes are just a little too big, and her lips are just a little too small. But her use of flattering make-up covers up most of these imperfections and make her look older and prettier.
Clothing-wise, she goes for scantily-clad clothing on-stage, and tank-tops and jeans for casual wear. Her clothing tends to be revealing, which helps to make her look older and more seductive.
Personality: Ember is a complex person, to say the least. She thinks she can help the people of the world, but only by breaking them first. She's obsessed with breaking people down and seeing them build themselves back up. She believes that, in reaching rock-bottom and giving into despair, one will embrace their misery and become addicted to it. To become so used to misery that they can't live without it. To realize that everything that made them feel bad before is nothing, and that they no longer have need to fear things like death and debt. Ember has made it her life to decimate the lives of others. For their own good, of course. To her, being broken makes you stronger.
Despite this, she feels like she has never experienced true despair: she could self-destruct all she wants, but her own desire for sadness means that, ironically, she'll always be happy with it. This frustrates her to no end.
Her love of misery is kept secret from the general populace. Most people see her through a media-controlled lens, where she's depicted as an air-headed, brash rocker chick who loves to party. But in truth, Ember only has a mild interest in singing, and she doesn't at all care for skimpy clothing and being brash. It's all just a means to an end, to make her more popular. She's very reserved and prefers to keep to herself.
In terms of interests, she's into video games. She's actually very good at building and creative games, like
The Sims and
Minecraft. Her favorite game is
Passpartout: The Starving Artist. She keeps it secret though, since it doesn't fit in with her image. Plus she kinda sorta gets obsessed and can talk about video games for hours.
Obsession Inducement: Ember has the ability to instill obsessive love into the minds of others. People who listen to her voice will, over time, grow more and more obsessed with her. The more they listen to her music, the more interested and happy they will be with her. You ever hear about those crazy stalkers that break into celebrity homes to watch them sleep? She can do that.
The obsessive love is complex in itself. It's not necessarily romantic, butt a strong feeling of adoration and love for her. But many people tend to interpret these feelings as a romantic love for her.
This comes with a few benefits. Namely, people who are obsessed with Ember may throw away their own morals to do her bidding, because they just love her that much. Though they will be fully aware of their actions, their feelings for he will usually trump everything else.
A person does not have to hear a full song to be affected; even little snippets can instill a tiny bit of interest in her. How obsessed someone is depends on several factors. People with strong will, as well as telepaths and other powerful psychics, will be naturally more resistant. So someone as strong-willed and powerful as, say, Emma Frost, would have to listen to her songs all the way through about a thousand times before being fully affected. In the end, though, anyone can be affected if they listen.
It also depends on how much a person likes her music - a person who likes her rock will be more affected than someone who hates rock. Listening to her life also has more of an effect than listening to a recording.
This is where her strength comes in: you might hear her song on the radio once or twice, but only develop a mild interest in her at best. But then you have her obsessive fans blasting her music wherever you go. Her music video will be on television. She'll get a starring role in one movie, or be part of the soundtrack of another. Her goal is to one day be so famous that her music is ever-present, thus making it impossible to escape her.
Ember can also break the control she has on others on a whim.
Weaknesses: Hearing is Believing: Since her powers are sound-based, you actually need to hear her voice or music to be affected.
Bad Love: When some people get obsessive, they don't become lovey-dovey servants. They get violent. Sometimes, they turn their violence onto the person they love. More than once, Ember has had to deal with her own fans trying to kill her.
Play Your Records Backwards: Playing Ember's music backwards basically reverses her influence on you. The more you listen to her music backwards, the more her power is undone.

Everyone has a past. Some just don't have interesting ones. And for the most part, that also applies to Ember. She was always a normal girl with a normal life, and the only thing that really helped her stand out was her talent for singing.
One day, while walking home from singing practice, she was suddenly enveloped by a green mist, coming from the nearby science lab. She was knocked out, only waking up three days later, in the hospital.
While in the hospital, she would pass the time by singing. Everyone who listened was smitten, and she quickly found out that she could abuse this power to her own advantage. But to test her power's limits, her first action was to convince a terminally ill patient to jump out of a window to their death. And what do you know, it worked.
Once she was out of the hospital, she would sing for the homeless in her city. She made them love and adore her, turning them into loyal followers. She made them kill, steal, and ruin their already miserable lives by committing deplorable actions. Then she'd break her control over them and watch as their guilt consumed them. Many of them killed themselves out of guilt, or turned themselves into the police. But some were so miserable, so broken that they just snapped. They embraced their misery and had to laugh. Nothing could make them more miserable than they were now.
Ember loved seeing this. In a weird, messed-up way, these people were happy.
These broken people seemed to happy, in a strange way. She came to see this as true happiness and understanding of reality. And in her infinite compassion, she decided that she would try to break as many people as she can, so they, too, could find comfort in the darkness.
After that, she would play with her powers more. One of her favorite ideas was to record her voice, then have people go to various jails, soup kitchens and orphanages to introduce others to her music. Once they became fans, the staff would deliver Ember's messages to them: spread chaos and destruction wherever you go. Embrace your darkest impulses and hurt others. And only through obeying Ember could they find happiness.
You may have recognized some of her work. Several criminals, and even
super villains originated from Ember. She influenced their minds and lead them down the garden path. And once they've caused enough misery, she'll let them free so they can embrace their despair.
Other Information: Her sociopath and obsession with despair may be a side-effect of her Inhumanity.
Imagine standing on a stage, in front of thousands of people cheering your name. They were ecstatic, overjoyed just to be in your presence. Every single one of them was there for you, and only you. They were absolutely, truly devoted to you.
They were such good people. For their devotion, they were going to be saved from the tangles of their lives.
Ember brought a microphone to her lips. She said to them,
"I have a cover I'd love to sing. The lyrics mean a lot to me, and I think you'd love them, too."There was a bit of murmuring in the audience. Having such a devotion to this woman and her music, the idea of hearing anything but her own gospel almost seemed like blasphemy. Little did they know, however, that they would fall in love with the song. They had no choice, after all.
"I watch the city burn.
These dreams like ashes float away.
Your voice I never heard.
Only silence.
Where were you when our hearts were bleeding?
Where were you when it all crashed down?
Never thought that you'd deceive me.
Where are you now?"
