Oh shock me, was the only thought running through Miguel's head as the scene unfurled.
He'd crossed paths with something similar to Carnage before, a monstrous alien symbiote that had found it's way onto the sadistic serial killer Kron Stone, saving him from certain death at the hands of the futuristic Punisher of 2099. Calling itself Venom, it decided to pick up right where it had left off back in the twentieth century, tormenting Spider-Man. And oh how it had tormented him, attacking him at his most vulnerable and even causing Dana's death, an event that to this day haunted his dreams.
During his very first time-travelling adventure he'd even run across Venom in the current day, this time upon its original host Eddie Brock, the delay the monster caused nearly causing all of reality to unravel. Since his return to the present, Miguel had made certain to read up on Brock, Venom, and the alien symbiotes in general. There had been a slew of them causing mayhem over the years and even a full-scale invasion of the Earth not long ago. The research had given him some small comfort though. Beneath the amorphous alien skin was a human host. He'd been shocked to learn that of Venom 2099, but knowing it was true of all the creatures meant that there was a way to beat them, a vulnerability beneath the razor filled maws and lashing tendrils.
Whatever reassurance that may have been was small. This creature, this Carnage spoke as if it knew Miguel personally, but he could not recall ever having encountered this particular nightmare.
Is he mistaking me for Parker? The costume is different enough I wouldn't think so. He called me Spider-Man, so he didn't confuse me with Venom like Flipside did. My luck the son of a glitch is another anomaly caused by altering the timeline. Maybe he has fought me, but a different me? Ugh! This time travel junk really screws with your head. Doesn't matter. Gotta stop this thing and fast, he thought.
"I'm fine with having my membership to this club revoked," he replied to Miles.
Facing Carnage he said, "I think you have a few wires crossed ugly. I've met some ugly freakers over the years, but you take the cake. I'd remember having thrown down with malevolent spaghetti."
Carnage scoffed. "Looks like I just have to help you remember me. Let's see if carving my name into your spleen jogs the memory any."
As Carnage lashed out, arm extending into a double-bladed axe, Miguel strafed to the side and in one fluid motion grabbed a computer off a desk, and sent it flying towards the face of the creature attempting to make a meal of Mile's face. His accelerated vision allowed him to see a follow up attack come his way and he bent backwards as a bladed tendril passed within mere inched of his nose. Still leaning backwards, his head nearly touching the floor, he fired off a webline in hopes of snagging Miles and yanking him out from beneath the symbiote controlled puppet.
