Marrow left the base early, leaving Neophyte to continue settling in getting used to the idea of joining a new team.
Well, it's not a team, really... more a group of us just trying not to get burned again... an anti-team, if anything...
She had some leads on prospective possibles that might be interested and the plan was to visit them later on tonight. For now, though, there was one visit Marrow had to make alone.
One thing teams had were uniforms. It was just part of the whole package - matching outfits and color schemes, or else body armor with pockets and belts and all manner of accoutrements. That was never really Marrow's style, even as an X-Man. Some good boots, comfortable clothes that wouldn't be a liability in a fight, and absolutely zero thought given to fashion. That was, she reflected, very probably her Morlock upbringing more than anything.
Which meant it was more solid advice than most of her training ever since.
Still, she thought, ...there's something to be said about first impressions...
Marrow was on her way to meet a young woman named Marie. As far as Marie was concerned, they already knew each other. Her response to the Skrull Marrow being pinned at the mansion's gates was only one of the things Marrow hoped they'd discuss because the truth was that they'd never properly met. Another was gauging interest in hopping fences to join her merry little band. Marrow had done a little digging and light recon work, and knew Marie had a habit of visiting the Morlocks semi-regularly.
I like her already...
But Marrow was also aware that what she was attempting to do could, in a certain light, be seen as... less-than-X-Men-worthy, and so she had given some thought to how best to approach the younger woman. So it was that she set out down the tunnels that would lead her to the mansion wearing a faded white tee, some khaki green cargo pants, and sneakers. It looked to be a fairly clear night and while there would likely be some chill still left in the air, Marrow found it better to dress light when things were in doubt.
Like if I have to make a quick getaway or end up in a fistfight...
She found both to be unlikely but being prepared was important.
A few miles and about an hour later, Marrow sat perched in the trees overlooking the entrance to the Morlock tunnels at the edge of Xavier's property. She watched for Marie who, she hoped, would be by before too long. If not, there was always tomorrow night.
