We need more villains hopefully we can get the ok for everyone to be able to pick up a free villain for a short time to offset the many heroes we have. Any other ideas please post. I am having a hard time on threads cause only a few villains are around after all this is the marvel universe. And where are the villains?

We should either have a mandatory villain among the 3 characters permitted, or we should be able to play a villain in addition to our 3 characters, once we reach, say, 50 posts or based on activity.

With the "Broken Masks" plot Villains should be flooding the place. I mean the civilians are going against Heroes... they could use this to their advantage.
One Villain per person would be awesome, granted not many people will want a bad guy because... its the bad guy!!! It hurts Capsicle's feelings for people to play bad guys. (note my sarcasm)
There is nothing wrong with writing the bad guy of the story. It actually tons of fun, I love writing Umbridge and Voldemort in Harry Potter RPs.
I really want a free villain or for the people who have villains to dust them off and have them causing pandemonium. Heroes who don't have a villain to protect the civilians from are not heroes... they're just bodybuilders and people who do martial arts as a hobby. Who would Thor be without Loki... or the X-men without Magneto or William Stryker? Or Magento without Shaw in First Class? What would the Avengers have become if it wasn't for Thanos breaking Loki's mind in the film? Would any of them even be who they are today? Nope. So...
WE NEED MORE VILLAINS!

Agreed, we do need more villains. That was one of the main reasons for going forward with Broken Masks. Villains were supposed to take center stage. There is little we can do to *make* anyone play a villain or three. Even when we have offered free villains in the past only a handful of players took us up on it. I suggest that those of us who want villains to play with be willing to take them on and set an example! (I know several of you have, I'm just sayin'!)
As for whether or not we promote another opportunity for a free villain, it can be discussed in staff. It's been brought up before but then we made the shift to a certain number of characters in reward for activity. Currently I have given permission for a one-off villain to storm the city - someone who can be killed or otherwise beaten. Until the staff can agree on a way to make more villains happen without sacrificing our reward system, maybe this will help!

The problem is that usually... In fact most of the time... The villains don't win. I don't think I remember too many stories in which the villains won. There's tons of people that want to play the hero because of how revered they are, or at least how successful.

To add my own grain of sand, my OC will be switching sides.

Don't know if I should add my own set of pennies here, but if allowed since I am an avid Decepticon fan and thus evil conspirator. I can create some form of super villain along with my hero I am trying to compile and complete in an already started topic.
Figured I'd ask first before doing so since I just joined and have not done much posting. Also I'd need to know if there are currently any active villains on site, so I will know what to work with.
Also being a villain I may have to fudge his "evilness" as he would likely be ganked by multiple heros.
Anyway, let me know I guess.

There is plenty canon, Marvel villains that aren't used.

@prowlnightwolf - As a new player you can create 1 OC and play them as you see fit, as well as 2 canons. At 100 posts you can add another OC. At that time you can add your villain. (See the site rules for details) In the meantime perhaps you could brainstorm with people in the cbox to find the right niche for your future creation!

SuperChick - Ordinary I would be all for fast collaboration with fellow members via a chat box. Problem is I don't have a computer. I am currently working off the browser function on my 3DS, and it has limited capability. I don't even see a chat box on here, let alone be able to post in it.
That being said, thanks for the advice and once I finish my first profile I will have to see about an alternative meens of conversing with fellow members about his place in the world of Marvel.

I'm cobbling together Dark Beast. I think the trouble with villains is that they only win in "What if?" sort of worlds (Age of Apocalypse). So, people might get discouraged to be on the losing side. Plus, there are certainly a number of villains that only really work as an occasional threat. While there are heroes like that too (particularly those who can't handle their own solo books), the number of villains of that category are much larger.

My main concern is that playing a villain will land one's self outside of the TOS. Because being a villain is about chaos, evil, offensive content, and so on and so forth.
Another concern I have is that there would be no weak, or lesser beings for the wicked to prey upon. (As a motivator for both villains and heros alike) Beyond other villains there's no pathetic weak runts to utilize. (It is often awkward to play as both your victims and your evil doers... I mean. It's awkward to play with yourself. You know? Making up a random Civ to capture and hold against their will, or physically/emotionally torment. Playing as the victim, while also playing as the villain traumatizing them . Because... Not many heros play the role of 'damsel in distress' easily. Or very well for that matter. It's often that an evil doer will be thwarted before their scheme really gets cooking, if they attempt to do evil things with heros as the subjects. So it's sort of like 'What's the point, if I move my arm you will just slap it away before I can hit the 'boom' button.)
Beyond those two concerns I would adore playing a villain or two. (I require no hero characters)

I have an idea for the civilians, but that is another thread's topic.

My main concern is that playing a villain will land one's self outside of the TOS. Because being a villain is about chaos, evil, offensive content, and so on and so forth. I have written some pretty gruesome posts with villains on other sites. Detailed and violent in nature. No one ever complained. However, any scenes with sex in them are scrutinized quite closely. I think playing a Marvel villain would likely cause you no issues in the realm of violent content. And when in doubt, you can always elude to the scene without going into gory detail. (The concern about lesser beings/victims/NPC civilians to pick on - I believe I answered it in the other thread.) As for the idea that villains always lose... Well, that is one reason the site plot is what it is. For a time, villains will come out on top. In the end, at the big finale, they will most likely ultimately lose (as is Marvel custom) but as they form alliances and learn to group together to defeat the heroes (as the heroes had already learned long ago to do to them, ala the Avengers and X-Men) they will increasingly come out on top! What we need is people willing to play villains in order to make that happen. Aside, I believe with all my being that a good writer can make or break any written battle in a PbP RPG. Clever writing and ingenuity can make a villain or hero come out on top against all odds and prerequisite thought to the contrary. We do not limit your ability to win simply because you play someone less likely to do so in the comics. Rather we encourage you to write your best and outwit other writers. That's what makes PbP role playing fun! It can be utterly unpredictable!
