All the good love when we're all alone, Keep it up girl! Yeah, you turn me on. -------------------- Three hundred meters. It was amazing how such a small distance could become a proverbial norkhole. They had just started their run when the capital ship they had nearly disabled seemed to have similar plans, following them down and spewing forth Skrull like...
There's no appropriate metaphor here, folks.
K.I.T.T. might have been cloaked, but the ragtag crew of Guardians weren't. With Gamora leading the charge, Star-Lord took the back, his element guns in hand as he swapped between erecting earthen barriers to provide cover and strafing the ranks of the rushing enemies with bolts of lightning.
Then he saw Thor get hit and stagger. Not a great sign.
"Rocket, big kahuna in the middle of the pack!" he shouted as he ducked behind one of his own rock walls and looks forward to where Gamora was. She had found cover of her own and he could just tell her beautiful, devious mind was playing all the angles. When she shouted back, he grinned. She didn't sound too happy about the plan, so he was going to side with her.
He couldn't have it his way every time.
"Up and over. Thor, think you can buy us a moment out here while we jump the gates?" Rocket and him couldn't climb half as well as she, but he had his boots and the racoon had his pack. Plus, Thor could fly, so why make a bigger racket when they could trap any vehicles they might be bringing outside?
Aiming his element guns at the door console, he blasted it with a high-voltage zap. Should do the trick of splitting them up. Assuming they didn't just fly after them.

Rocket's ears perked up when he heard what Quill said... It was almost like he had to do a double take staying near Quill.
"Wait what?! Did you just say what I think you said? BIG KAHUNA?! OH SNAP!!!!!"
Rocket pulled the rocket launcher out.... The missile sticking out was literally bigger than him.
"I knew there was a reason I always kept one of these in my bag!"
Rocket said aiming the weapon.
"Quill... Just to let you know I've never fired one of these before... If I die from this... I want you to know something... Your toothbrush may have accidentally went in the toilet and I never told you..."
Rocket said before he pulled the trigger... Almost like time was standing still the missile fired out... The kickback from the weapon had so much force Rocket went flying backwards and landed in a thud several feet away... Groot has kept himself busy tangling up any enemies that come near him. Though the numbers are starting to get to the massive Groot.

The Skrulls on the planet managed to get the prisoners that were outside back in, though one in particular fought the guards every step of the way. Finally they all were secure though, and the soldiers formed a barrier across the prison section, while the rest joined the fray. They left plenty of room for the ships to land, a few darting off to provide cover for any injured Skrulls, and some cheered as one of the invading party seemed to be hurt. "Press forward, don't let them in any further" the order was shouted, but they had no idea how big the rocket was that the furry animal had fired off.
In just a few seconds, the rocket exploded and the soldiers were blown to pieces, leaving a gaping hole that led right to the prison complex. The Skrulls that were still standing fired as fast as they could, but it seemed like the ragtag bunch were way more organized than it had seemed at first glance, and quite a few of the Skrulls fell. A couple of the braver ones pointed at Quill and yelled "Let's get him!", charging furiously.

Give them a moment? Thor could manage that easily, He grinned as he responded to Quill's request, brandishing Mjolnir, ready to begin attacking again, rather than just defending. "It would be my pleasure, Lord Star."
With that, he stopped running quite so fast, letting the others get at least a small distance away from him before simply leaping from where he was, straight towards the nearest significant group of Skrulls. A few shots at him in mid air either missed, or were blocked with Mjolnir, before he slammed down into the middle of the group, a thunderous shockwave bursting outwards, the concussive force and blazing lightning scattering the enemy soldiers like confetti. After that, he didn't even pause before jumping again towards another group, this one with a man carrying a much larger weapon, Thor was fairly sure that was the one that had caused him to stagger when it struck him earlier.
Normally he didn't like to make himself such an easy target as that. However, when he was specifically drawing fire, it had proven a most effective method. Make himself seem as dangerous as possible, then head for the biggest threat they were aware of, so that they would hopefully shoot at him. Whilst he was using Mjolnir to generate a protective barrier, naturally.

Gamora raised a brow at Quill when he said to go up and over. Somehow he merged both of her ideas for entry into one. Gamora looked back around to the gates. She supposed up and over was just as easy as charging through - and by easy she meant difficult. Still, there was no telling how fortified the gates were so even if he had Rocket aim the Big Kahuna at the gates and try to blow them open, there was no guarantee it would work. And it would have alerted everyone inside to their entry point.
So, up and over it is.
Gamora waited for Rocket to fire the Big Kahuna at the oncoming army, then she made her way for the gates. Nothing appeared to take aim at her form the protruding terra-pillars. That, too, was a break! She quickly closed the distance to the gates and looked for a way to climb them. She could free climb, she supposed, but Quill would be unlikely to keep up. So Gamora took from her belt one of the gadgets she had remembered to bring along. It was a wrist line with a grapple that shot from it. She took a few steps back and aimed high, then released the grapple. It caught on the top of the gate as planned.
Glancing behind her, Gamora noted Thor, Rocket, and Groot all keeping the oncoming enemies occupied. She pressed the retraction button on the device and it began to pull her upward with no real effort of her own. "Are you coming?" she yelled to Quill. The question remained as to if he had remembered to bring a wrist grapple of his own or if he needed her to open the doors for them all. She only had time to ask that quick question, however, because the grapple device was pulling her up fast. So hopefully, Quill was equally as succinct in his response. Gamora didn't require direction. She could figure it out by the time she took care of whatever guards were on the other side, but it sure would be nice to know what he expected.

All the good love when we're all alone, Keep it up girl! Yeah, you turn me on. -------------------- Heh, Lord Star. He could dig it. Watching Thor literally swing (his hammer) into action as a great sight, and Rocket never failed to disappoint when it came to big explosions. It didn't seem to matter too much, some of the enemies seemed to be trying to charge at him.
Pointing his element guns at the ground, one fired a surge of water over the area of the onrushing Skrulls before the other blasted out chilled air, cold enough to freeze the now sodden ground into a sheen of ice. If they wanted to get him, they were going to have to figure out how to run across it, much less stand on it.
"I love these," he said to himself before turning to Gamora who was shouting at him. Game time, it seemed, but the force here was more than expected. "Gamora and I will get to the console!" Quill shouted at the others as he activated his rocket boots and took to the sky. "If they take K.I.T.T., we're stranded!" He didn't intend to fly over the whole gates, it would make him too obvious a target. Instead, he let his boots burst, sending him towards Gamora who was quickly scaling the wall. Holstering one of his guns, he held out his now free hand towards her, hoping she would grab him as her line pulled her up.

Rocket got up brushing himself off. He stood there in awe of the explosion the weapon caused. He pulled a handkerchief out of his back pocket and wiped a tear away from his face.
"Isn't it beautiful?!"
Yes a tear was literally trickling down his face. It's not every day Rocket gets to fire off The Big Kahuna and Quill knew he was chomping at the bit to launch that weapon.
"Guys please tell me you saw that!!!"
Rocket yelled before he pulled out his plasma pistols and started firing at any oncoming enemies.
"I got your back Quill! You know I'm good at buying us time!"
He said reaching into his back pack pulling out some of his particle grenades.
"IT'S MURDER TIME BOYS!!!!!! DIE! DIE! DIE!!! DIEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!"
Rocket said cackling like a madman throwing grenade after grenade into the crowd.
"And you get a grenade! And you get a grenade! And you get a grenade! EVERYONE GETS A MOTHER TRUCKIN GRENADE!"

The few Skrulls that broke rank and charged Quill hit the ice that Star Lord created full force, causing them to slip and slide, knocking into each other and landing in a tangled mess of limbs. The other group began shooting at Gamora and Quill, but quickly were blown up by both Thor and Rocket's grenades. The tussle ended quickly with the deaths of most of the remaining Skrulls that were left outside, there were still others inside the prison though. Whispered orders were to stay inside and wait for the intruders to come to them, they figured they would have the advantage being in an area they knew better than the intruders.
Dispersing down the corridors, they put a couple of soldiers at each hallway, far enough back so they could duck into the alcoves if they were fired upon, and then they waited, scared as they knew they were the last force remaining.

Most of the Skrulls outside the gates were downed already, and many that remained were still troubled by the ice that Star Lord had left behind him. The fun thing about ice? It conducted electricity just as well as liquid water did. A quick jolt of thunder took them out of action too, and Thor took to the air himself, Mjolnir whirling around in a repeating circle to lift him up alongside Quill and Gamora. It hadn't seemed to be the plan, but with the lack of things behind them any more, perhaps simply pressing on was better. Either way, he could rain destruction down from above, just as well as he could at ground level.
"Behind us is suppressed. Your rabbit should be able to handle any remaining that offer resistance. I would go with you for the next part, with your permission."
He had come a long way on this quest, and whilst the Guardians probably had as well, he also had a significant personal stake in the outcome. He didn't want to skulk at the back watching in case a second army approached whilst his friend was rescued. It was all he could do not to simply blast their front door down, only the knowledge that this would almost certainly bring harm to the Guardians, possibly to Mockingbird too. Without knowing where she was exactly, he couldn't risk blowing up any part of the building.

Gamora took the hint - although, admittedly, she had a thought to not catch Quill's hand. She wanted to get him back for his grandstanding with Thor earlier and taking up the entire bridge of the ship, but Gamora was a warrior first so she understood that now really wasn't the time for payback. She'd just get quill later. It wasn't a threat, really. It was just how the team rolled. Moreover, it's how they worked.
So, clasping Star Lord's hand as she rose, Gamora looked back over the ice field he left behind them. She gave him a cursory approval before looking up to where they were going. "Good thinking," she said. And that was the end of the compliments.
Soon enough they reached the top of the gates and Gamora could see over the other side. There were several guards aiming up at them from their places below. Gamora saw the incoming fire as one of the guards noticed her and swung Quill to the side. She hoped he had the wherewithal to grab onto the top of the gates as she had done and pull himself up because she had to move quickly to avoid being hit.
Gamora stood on top of the gates as more fire came from below, then she did as Gamora is apt to do: she plunged headfirst into the battle! It was hard to say whether the woman leaped from the height of the gate or fell onto her target below. Either way, it looked awesome and turned out exactly as she had planned! Her knives were drawn as she fell and they plunged into the unwitting guard as she used him to cushion her landing. Gamora rolled with the flow of inertia and stopped with her feet firmly below her squatted form. Her knives had been brought with her into her roll and as soon as her momentum stopped, Gamora used it to release the blades from her hands. Each one struck a guard and in ten seconds or less, three enemies had fallen to the Guardian.
Another two guards were awaiting her to take them down and Gamora was running for cover as they fired, reaching for the pistols on her belt to continue her elimination spree. There were a tiny breath of pause in the killing on her end, however, so Star-Lord had a chance to make quick work of the others if he chose. If not, Gamora would begin firing as soon as the pistols were in her hands and properly aimed.
So, two seconds.
Tick. Tock.

All the good love when we're all alone, Keep it up girl! Yeah, you turn me on. -------------------- Star-Lord grinned behind his helmet at Gamora's compliment.
"Good catch," was his only reply as he gripped tight to her hand while they ascended the wall. For all they argued and fought and messed with one another, it was moments like this that gave him that soft, warm, and fuzzy feeling inside as though he'd just eaten a kitten. Crazy and individualist as they each were, they worked well as a team. No power in the 'verse had managed to stop them yet.
Gamora spotted some sort of danger from her higher vantage point and tossed him to go do what she does best. Quill didn't mind and he grabbed onto the lip of the top with his other hand before he had the chance to fall. Hoisting himself up, he looked back to find Thor had joined them. Since the outside wasn't a danger anymore, he gave the big guy two thumbs up as he drew his Kree machine guns and turned to follow Gamora down.
She had a head start on him and there was no way his half-human body was going to take the drop. Sure, his fancy suit had some impressive protection but he didn't feel like finding out if that included shock absorbers. Firing his boots up as he neared the ground, aimed the more conventional weapons down, marking a pair of targets that weren't immediately in Gamora's path of death. The guns weren't fancy but the Skrull inside might not know what his element guns could do. Having that surprise could prove beneficial later.
In what felt like the blink of an eye, the galaxy's greatest assassin had cleared out most of the targets and Peter squeezed the triggers on his guns. His targets were focused on the woman murdering them all so they didn't see the hail of laser fire raining down on them until it was too late. Catching them in center mass, the shapeshifters fell, clutching at cauterized holes in their chests. Letting his boots turn off, he fell the rest of the way, rolling so he wouldn't get injured.
"Alright, we're in luck," he said as he sprung back to his feet. "Control center is close, if we can get there, Rocket can hack in remotely through my helmet and tell us where in the hell they're keeping the damsel in distress."

Rocket Raccoon kept on shooting and lobbing grenades at anything that looked at him funny. He was in a world of his own...
"Come on! Who wants some! I can do this all day!!!"
Rocket yelled as explosion after explosion went off. He snapped out of it hearing Quill speak of him hacking into the system.
"Let me know when the coast is clear! I'll need you guys to watch my tail while I hack into the computer's system."
Rocket said as activated his jet boots flying around shooting more Skrulls.
"I also have a virus ready if you want me to fry the entire system when I'm done! It's brilliant! It locks up the computer and plays that Numa Numa song on loop!"
Rocket said in his usual smart ass tone with a cheesy smile. You know the kind of smile Rocket gets when he says something absolutely ridiculous...

The Skrulls were no match for the Guardians and Thor, and those inside cowered, afraid to go confront the heroes. All but a select few who were bolstered by their superior, those marched out and formed a barricade around the main prison door. "Halt, intruders! What is your purpose here, why are you attacking us?" the general asked in a loud, booming voice. "Maybe we can come to an agreement?" he suggested, motioning to his remaining troops to stand ready.
In the meantime, the prisoner they were hoping to rescue was trapped, pacing like an angry cat inside her barren cell. "Let me out, you scum!" she hollered, knowing it was useless yet this was the only way she could fight back. She had no idea who was attacking, but if she could get to them, maybe they would take her off this planet and get her home! She continued to pace, banging on her cell door and yelling, hoping that whoever the intruders were, that they would hear her and let her out.

By the time he was over the gate, it seemed that the others had taken out all resistance on the other side. There was probably a lot more inside the building proper, but inside meant corridors and rooms, all of which would limit how many could get at them at a time. This would greatly favour their side over the Skrulls.
With the force accumulating at the main gate though, Thor was no fool. He knew better than to declare the specific hostage they sought to rescue, doubly so since the Skrulls were a race of shapeshifters. Instead, he simply held Mjolnir over his head, a crackling glow surrounding it, before he levelled it in front of him, aimed directly at the collective of Skrulls still in their way.
"Our mission is not your concern. Know only that if you remain between it and us, then you will be moved aside. So says Thor, prince of Asgard, God of Thunder, guardian of Midgard, and.... and I am running out of things to say to distract them!"
He had been standing a little apart from the others, and given their haphazard methods of getting over the gate they were still a little scattered anyway. He knew that the longer he could hold their attention, the better for the others to get to cover, or into position for whatever else they were planning. Once they started attacking, he could let fly with a few lightning bolts, too.

As she anticipated, Quill was on his game. He took out the two guards who had not yet eceived death blowss from he weaponry and landed with efficiency befot their leader. Gamora sometimes found herself admiring the half human from Earth but those times were often short-lived. Inevitably, Star Lord would do something to prove to her just how immature of a warrior he could be and her admiration would become a fleeting thought. It was often a love-hate relationship between them, but Gamora held on to Quill closely as he and the others were her chosen family. And, besides, she knew deep down she liked him just as much for his immature smartassery as she did for his confidence on the battlefield, but she'd be damned if she ever told him that!
With the outside guards generally either dead or hiding from them (Gamora didn't see any others), that meant the next target was the main entrance. Gamora watched as Thor landed and provided cover through conversation while she quickly opened the gates from the inside. It would make for a quicker escape route when they left if Rocket couldn't bring the ship over to them due to the interference of their enemies as well as provide him easy access if he could not get into the computers within remotely. Thor mentioned that he was running out of things to distract them and Gamora snorted. "I highly doubt you've run out of adjectives for yourself so quickly."
She moved past the Asgardian briskly toward the front doors of the building. "I've got this," she replied pragmatically. There were no windows in the doors, but there were two of them which made for an easier access point. One door would be firmer on its hinges within its frame. Two doors, however, were inclined to be weak in the center. With guns drawn, Gamora pulled what appeared to be a grenade from her belt. She rushed to the doors and gave them a swift kick at their weakest point. They caved in despite their lock and the lithe woman allowed the impact to cause her to fall to the ground. As she fell, the practiced soldier tossed the grenade inside and, when she hit the ground, Gamora was already rolling to the side to avoid the imminent gunfire and anticipated explosion.
