The hug was what she needed. The stress of it all running through her. A slight tingle between the pair but nothing else. Ava felt it as a connection that was meant to be. Hearing the words Natasha said also eased the burden she had placed on herself. It felt as if something broken had been fixed that she didn't even know had been broken. Ava's tense body relaxed but she kept her powers in check just to make sure she didn't black out. She was looking down, allowing her fringe to hide her face, when she moved out of the embrace. She turned her body to pick up her hot coco once more at the same time as wiping what moisture was there away as she sipped the coco.
Then Natasha said something and she nearly squirted her in the face. Instead she choked and looked at Natasha with daggers but a smile grew on her face as she shook her head allowing a laugh to escape her lips. After she calmed down a little she smiled wider.
"So... this isn't the only milk for morning then?... I'm starving. I had just finished a workout when I was called, didn't have time to grab anything to eat."
Finally as she had warmed up she removed her jacket revealing SHIELD issue body glove layer.
"I would say anything is good on a pizza.... apart from pineapple! I never did understand having something sweet on a pizza unless it was the BBQ sticky sauce from Uncle Joe's Pizza Place. That was some magic sauce, shame it closed."

"Magic sauce, eh?" Natasha snickered. "It is a shame that it closed." Moving away from Ava, Natasha led her to a small set of shelves next to the kitchen. It looked to be both a makeshift pantry as well as a trophy shelf of some sort. It held a few cans of tuna, a couple of boxes of macaroni and cheese, some boxed rice meals and Top ramen. It also had a couple of ski trophies, a picture of two people grabbed from stock photography in ski gear, and a small preserved (through taxidermy) rodent. Natasha tugged on the rodent's left arm and the unit of shelves slid aside, reveling a stairwell down. Natasha ducked through the short doorway and descended the metal stairs below. Lights came on automatically with the motion on the stairs, so going down was easy.
After traversing the stairs in their circular descent, Natasha arrived first on the much more modern sub-level of the ski shack. "Tony had this built a long time ago, so it's not as fancy as some of the other safe houses but I think you'll find it more than sufficient."
"Good afternoon, Natasha. You'll find everything here is as you requested," said the familiar voice of Tony's AI butler. Nat smirked at Ava. "I'm sure it is. I'll let you know if we need anything, Jarvis."
The further Nat moved into the lower level, the more lights came on revealing a modern living space complete with televisions, a desk with built-in computer, a curved sofa and other modern furniture. Even a large aquarium filled with exotic fish was fitted into a wall on the far side. A hall led to private rooms if she'd gone forward, but Nat took a right and led them into a very well stocked, modern kitchen with two full sized, stainless steel, refrigerators. The elder red head moved to one and opened the pull out freezer on the bottom. Inside was a stack of frozen pizzas from Tony's favorite pizzeria in New York.
"Looks like we have all kinds to choose from. Personally, I'm looking for something with lots of meat and veggies." She pulled a supreme, thick crust pizza from the shelf. "Will this do?"

Ava nodded with a smile and a bit of a glint in her eyes at he magic sauce comment. She watched Natasha move her eyes catching sight of the photo and tried to figure out who the two people were. As Natasha opened the door, she moved over to the bag and jacket she had removed to sling both over her shoulders. Her face lit up even more as they descended. She bounced down the stairs a little as her hand felt the cool wall whilst descending. Her attention was pulled to infront of her as Tony was mentioned and her eyes opened even wider.
"WHOOOOAAHHH!!"
She looked at Natasha with a huge grin. She had seen some of his work and it always impressed her. The fact that this was a long time ago made her chuckle.
"How long are we talking? 90s? 80s? Don't tell me 70s? I mean, if this was a long time ago then he was ahead of himself."
She then smiled a little at the voice which she had heard a few times, especially when she was on hold to Tony.
"Hi Jarvis!"
She just hoped it didn't use the same nickname for her as Tony did. There was something about her that was buzzing and it wasn't just her powers. The youth in her came in as she looked at Natasha after surveying the room.
"Well, it may not be spanky but it sure as hell better than the safe houses I have had to be in!"
She couldn't help but shudder. The thought of pizza brought her back to the here and now, dismissing the memory of being locked away in a safe house for all that time. She nodded at the pizza idea.
"Is there any fries, wedges or garlic bread... I'm starved!"
Just on queue her stomach grumbled, a slight smile came to her lips once more. She really needed something good inside her.

Jarvis replied to Ava's greeting without the use of any familiar-to-Tony nicknames. "Good afternoon, Miss Orlova. I do hope you'll enjoy your stay." Ava responded by stating the safe house wasn't "spanky" but was nicer than others she had stayed in. Jarvis did not reply.
Natasha raised a brow at Ava's request for fries, wedges or garlic bread. Then, she did the unexpected and pulled all of those things from the freezer. She plopped them on the marble counter top and smirked at her protege. "You'd think I knew you or something." With a small laugh, Natasha moved to get an aluminum cookie sheet to warm the bread on in the oven. "Sadly, we have to cook old school. No instant warmers in this place. Just a couple of ovens, stove top... Oh, and a deep fryer!" she said excitedly pulling the appliance away from the wall on the counter. "Put the bread and pizza in the oven while I get this started, will you?"
Natasha plugged the deep fryer into the wall while Ava took care of the things that needed baked. They had started the weekend a little rocky while on the top floor. Nat hoped to settle in and begin enjoying their holiday together now that the surprise of it was past. She was hopeful that she and Ava could make some headway on catching up and, if she was lucky, make more progress on Ava letting her brother go as well. It was a big deal that she do it, but Nat had to admit to herself that there was something comforting to see the visage of Alexei once in a while. She sighed inwardly, showing no sign outwardly to Ava of her thoughts. Healing was only going to happen for Ava if she let Alexei go, and that meant Natasha would have to rely on her own memory of him from here on. Well, that and the pictures she secreted away. She would always have those.
Natasha set the french fires on the table about the same time Ava pulled the pizza and bread from the oven. She stole a fry before going to get them plates, then sat at the table with Ava. She plopped another fry in her mouth and asked, "So, what do you think of skiing tomorrow? Or should we just stay in and eat our week away?"

Ava laughed as Natasha took all out of the freezer. Well that was to be expected... almost... the fact that Natasha knew her thoughts and tastes made her wonder how much of her was rubbing off on Natasha and vice versa. She nodded at the instructions and put the food on. Ava started to humming Prokofiev "Dance of the Knights". She didn't know where she knew it from, her feet even started to dance from an old forgotten lesson. By the time she had finished with the food she joined Natasha and giggled as she saw her taking a few fries. Then tried to nab a couple for herself. She added the baked goods to the table along with a couple of glasses she had discovered while waiting and a bottle of Cola. Ava thought of the options with a smile on her face. "I suppose we should at least do one day of skiing. So skiing tomorrow and recover the rest of the week. I just hope your a good skier!"
She was hinting at their connection and her lack of skiing skills.

"Well, I don't want to twist your arm or anything," Natasha replied with a chuckle. She settled into the chair and began slicing the pizza. She took one once the pieces were cut and melted cheese followed her slice to her plate. Nat quickly wrapped it up on her finger before Ava could steal it. "Honestly, the skiing here is the best. I like it even more than the Alps or the powder you can get in Utah." She smirked knowingly at her adopted sister. "And yes, I'm very good at it."
Natasha plopped more fries in her mouth as she waited for the pizza to cool enough to eat. It was mildly disconcerting that Ava replied so much on their link to effectively "learn" new skills. It was really no wonder she felt so egotistical about things and felt like she didn't need more mentoring. Everything she could do was basically handed to her. It was similar to the Matrix movies. Ava just plugged in to Natasha's memories and suddenly had a new skill. She hadn't done it on purpose at first, but it sounded quite a bit like she was more comfortable with it now. It troubled Natasha to the point that she had a thought that maybe her presence in the girl's life was more of a detriment than aid. The Black Widow, notorious spy and femme fatale of Russia's elite Red Room, would have agreed, but Natasha Romanoff, woman with a heart, could not.
"You know, you should try not to tap into my memories and skills in order to ski this weekend. Call it a challenge. Let's see what you can do without me in your head. If that's even possible." Natasha paused. "It may not be. You might already have the skills and not know it because you have't skied yet." She exhaled and lifted the pizza to take a bite. "I guess we will see."

Ava grinned as she grabbed a piece of pizza for herself, keeping it flat she added a couple of potato wedges to it. It felt good compared to academy food. At least she would be able to enjoy it. Licking her fingers she replied.
"Cool, don't worry. I want to learn and I do it on my own."
There was that stubbornness she had.
"I don't use our connection as often as you think... although sometimes I find it hard to tell who has the skills. Surely you've seen or heard about the hours of training I put in. Hence the vacation yes?"
ANNNND there was the cockiness. Oh yeah, she was a little cocky to be an understatement. For the most part she had the right to be finishing top of almost all her classes and breaking a few of Natasha's records. Although some were still out of her reach and for good reason. She ate some more of her pizza combo and reached for a slice of garlic bread before grabbing BBQ sauce and squirting a little over the bread. Now with both her hands holding food she continued to eat and talk with her mouth full. She didn't really realise how hungry she was.
"I erm... I don't know if it is either."
She frowned a little whilst looking at the pizza slice, the self doubt creeping in. The knowledge that she didn't really know who she was or if she was really any good at anything.

Natasha chewed her pizza and watched Ava digest what she'd said. At first, the young agent seemed to accept the challenge without a thought. That was the egotism Natasha knew dwelt in her heart and guided her actions. She felt like she was so good at everything. Yes, Ava did work very hard at the academy. It was true. And, yes, that was part of the reason for this holiday from school for her. However, there was so much more to the situation that it was almost impossible to separate the many lines connecting the web of intricate details to Ava's story. The assumption was that Ava had once been her own person, but now it was unknown where Ava ended and Natasha began. It was merciless dilemma, especially for a young woman in the throws of adolescence who was trying to discover - and decide - who she was to become.
After she swallowed her food, Natasha replied, "Don't think about it too hard. Just see what you can do tomorrow. If you make any moves I recognize, then it will answer that question for both of us. And if you fall on your face, we'll also know."
Another glint of humor touched the edges of Nat's lips, lifting them just a bit before she put more pizza in her mouth. Humor was probably the best way to keep Ava from going nuclear (not literally), and it sold the idea of a vacation easier than a serious conversation might have. The best of both worlds, so to speak, as the elder Widow continued to prod at Ava for simple details in her life.
"So, any new crushes your big sister should be aware of?" she asked. "Or perhaps stalkers? Widows are particularly known to attract a bit of attention, some of it even unintentionally."

Ava thought about what was said and she smiled a little more and threw a chip ( fry whatever!) at Natasha's comment about falling flat on her face at the same time as exclaiming.
"HAY!"
She laughed a little at seeing Nat's expression. Then the question came and she thought hard on it.
"No crushes. Don't have time. I met and worked with Patrick A.K.A The Scarlet Spider from Avengers, the party didn't turn out as I expected. Apart from that there is Eugene who I have met but he is far too old for me! Plus it is more his use in electricity that is fascinating. I work as a good battery for him! I haven't really had time to be out in town...."
Well that wasn't true.
"... ok, so I have, most know I get out and they still haven't figured out how to stop me. The guard on the entrance is always confused that I am back!"
She smiled a little wider.
"I have to check on Sasha Cat. They still won't let me bring her in. Someone has to feed and make sure she is ok from time to time. She is getting old though, her back leg is a little stiff."
Sighing she shoved some more of the pizza in her mouth and looked content at least for a moment.
"I bet they are putting up more ways to try and stop me getting out while I'm away. As for stalkers.... I've seen the man from our last outing... When I am out he seems to appear at least once, it feels almost on purpose. Never in the same place. Other than that... Captain America seems to be stalking me!"
She said with a grin. It was mainly because he had been her CO several times and picked her up when needed from various situations. The fact she was talking so much showed she was also starting to relax further.
"Oh and I passed my driving test... they won't let me take the advanced test yet as 'I'm too young!' it was while I was out celebrating that when I met Patrick for the first time. I needed someone who looked a little older to get me in the club door..... ..... don't worry it was a non-alcoholic event."
She didn't mention what happened though.

The response elicited by Natasha's suggestion that Ava could fall on her face in the snow tomorrow was precisely what was intended. It was all in fun and that was how Ava took it. It caused the grin on Nat's face to widen even as she had chewed. Then as Ava revealed she didn't have a crush (to be expected) but enjoyed the company of Patrick - as a friend - Natasha allowed her features to soften back to normal interest. Of course the Black Widow knew of her little spider's adventures. She knew about her sneaking out from the Academy and SHIELD supervision on the regular. She knew she got herself into sticky situations, some of them including strange earpieces that anchored themselves to her ear causing her to need a bit of medical attention. She also knew that Ava kept a fake ID despite the youth leaving that part out. Natasha ignored these things in light of the fact that Ava was so freely talking to her, however, and only decided to vaguely mention it after the fact.
"Of course you passed the driving test," Nat replied, adding nonchalantly, "Now you can get a real ID so you don't have to flash the other one except when it's absolutely necessary."
After saying it, she didn't even add a smirk. It was as if Ava having a fake ID was to be expected and entirely normal. Natasha didn't think a lot of it, to be honest, but she knew SHIELD might have an issue. To the Widow, in their line of work, fake ID's were simply part of the package. Like good lock picks, every spy should have several.
After using a napkin on her mouth, Natasha tucked it under a leg and reached for a piece of bread. "So I was thinking, I'm sure you can leave Sasha Cat at the mansion once in a while. Like if you're off on mission or for whatever reason can't be home to feed her. Pretty sue someone there would love to cat-sit." Nat took a small bite of bread and let her elbow rest on the table holding it aloft. She gestured with the bread. "And if they won't then perhaps we can blackmail them. What do you think?"

Ava looked up at Nat when she hinted at the 'other' ID only a slight flicker of a smile appeared. It was left over from her past, along with her stash of old SHIELD equipment. There were still a few bits that came in handy when she needed them.
"They come in useful. Besides... I do it for Sana. As she can't, I do... well it's what we used to do. I've asked, they just won't let me... they said she is a flee bag and as she's a street cat can look after herself. Their right, she can look after herself but I worry for her. It was odd though, she was happy with Eugene who stayed at my old basement. Didn't even hiss at him."
She shrugged as she finished eating the bread, her eyes closing for a few seconds. Relaxing always made her feel how sore and tired she was. Never any good. Reaching up she rubbed the back of her neck to ease some of her tension and as she opened her eyes took a bite of the pizza. She looked even more tired with each passing second.
"So... "
Swallowing the mouthful she continued talking.
"I was thinking. Do you think Tony would be happy looking after her when she gets a little older? She doesn't take much looking after just giving her the medical stuff and food, she is happy like that."

Natasha quirked her brow. "Who told you that Sasha Cat was a flea bag?" she asked. "I want names."
Ava went on to ask if Nat thought Tony would take care of the cat when it was old and required more care. The red head attempted not to snort. "Tony? I think you'd have better luck asking Jarvis. He's an A.I. but something tells me he'd be more reliable when it came to caring for a cat. Tony barely takes care of himself once he gets focused on something." Nat popped a fry in her mouth while still holding the piece of garlic bread in her other hand. "Don't get me wrong, I think he's probably better at being a human when he's working on a project than Reed Richards, but he is nowhere near the caregiver type."
Setting down her half eaten bread on the plate with her half eaten pizza, Natasha sighed and smirked with devious thought. "We'll figure out out. If nothing else, I'll give her to Coulson to manage when we're both away on a mission." She gave Ava a wink. "I could also asked a blind lawyer friend of mine if he could cat-sit. He would absolutely love to have a cat in his apartment short term since his lease says he can't own one, and he is pretty good with animals."
The former may not be entirely true of Matt Murdock, but the latter was mostly true. Natasha really just enjoyed the idea of the supposed blind man who saw everything even more clearly than someone with sight trying to act like taking care of a cat was difficult, not to mention a dangerous tripping hazard.

Ava fidgeted at being asked for names. She didn't want to get anyone into trouble especially if she was to work with them. She mumbled something about the housing officer.
"I don't think they like cats!"
She laughed at the idea of Jarvis looking after her cat and thought about it.
"I think Coulson would love to... wait a blind person looking after a cat?... ... ... "
She could see Ava's mind working, trying to figure it all out and then she looked up to Natasha and smiled. There was more to it than she thought. She couldn't place the person but she had heard of some people's powers were a different type of sight or even smell or touch. There was one file on someone who used echo location like bats, the noise they made were so high normal people couldn't hear them. It was also constantly being made like if someone was beat boxing. Then there were people who could hear heart beats. Sometimes powers were cool but she knew that each and everyone had a downside.
"I hope they are able to sense what is around them rather than see like us. I don't know if she would like being cooped up in a home, she normally just spits and scratches everyone she meets. There have only been a few people she trusts. I'm not even sure how old she is."
She finished off her pizza and grabbed another slice picking off bits and placing them on the garlic bread. Then she looked up suddenly as if she heard something her eyes shifting to one side. Then she looked back down at her food.

Natasha allowed herself to laugh out loud when Ava registered that she said a "blind" lawyer could take care of her cat. It was always meant to be said for the ridiculousness of it, but it was also not unheard of. "People with disabilities deserve pets, too," Natasha countered, the mirth still in her voice. Ava went on to extrapolate on the virtues of her cat and how she was such a natural lover of people. Not. All that did was make Natasha more convinced she'd have to get Matt to Cat-sit Sasha sometime.
The pair continued to gorge on their food, leaving just a few slices of garlic bread and a single slice of pizza left on the plates when they Natasha finally gave up. She sat back with a happy little food baby pudge rounding her normally very flat and fit stomach. "Wow. I'm not even sure I can lay down for sleep! Maybe we should watch a movie or something before we got o bed? Tony has all of the movies streamed to his houses and regularly updated, so there's sure to be something we like!"
Natasha preferred dramas without a lot of intrigue and was pretty sure Ava would be off-put by spy movies as well. Unless they were comedies, of course. Making fun of spy movies in a spy movie could be great! But Hollywood attempting to make a movie out of intrigue was just a little hard to swallow for someone who made spy work her life.
"Hmm, Comedy or Adventure? Or even a cartoon or anime. I'm game for most things. As long as it's not..." Natasha allowed Ava to finish her sentence. The pair were too connected for Ava not to.

Ava was surprised at how much she ate. Knowing that different people would be happy to look after the cat it would be amazing. She rubbed her eyes and tried to move... the last slice was looking tempting but her stomach gave a gurgle and she shook her head at it. Her attention moved to Natasha and she looked at her as if she had never seen her before. Was this what it was like to have a big sister? She had always had to be the older person. The abandonment she had felt from Nat was now being shadowed by the blinding light of relaxing together. Ok, so this wasn't the first holiday they had had and she hoped that it wouldn't end up as bad as the last one. She smiled at Nat thinking of a perfect movie. "Spy. I know just the one. It's old and takes the mickey out of sluthing. I haven't seen it for a while. Mainly cause the VHS of it broke!"
Standing was not fun but it would do. She spoke out loud as she moved to the sofa and flopped on it. She was REALLY tired and doubted that she would get to the end of the movie. Once there she spoke out loud. "Jarvis? Play 'Without a Clue' please?"
She chuckled to herself remembering watching it at the YMCA with Sana and the other street kids. That was a fun night. Although she was right in the fact that she wouldn't make it to the end.
