Kei grunted as he dropped to the grass below, knees bent from the landing. The young teen rolled behind a large bush and waited. After ten seconds with no shouting, he peeked out from behind the greenery and glanced at the large building. Avengers HQ, home to the greatest heroes in the world. No, the Universe! Kei looked left to right, his wild black hair hung down, hidden beneath an orange hoodie with two monster eyes on the front. The knees of his jeans now grass stained from bending down in the earth below.
He had been trying to get in but kept being turned away. Now, he would go in stealth mode and avoid that jerk at the front. So far so good! He had to speak to an Avenger, his mom was getting more and more frantic with her sons blossoming gifts and he could tell her worry was a great weight on her shoulders. If he could speak to an Avenger and... what? Get help? Join them? have them talk to his mom? He really didn't know. He just knew he had to do something to help.
Staying low, Kei ran across the grounds, ducking behind the very few trees available. Yes, he was being so sneaky.

Intruder Alert. Intruder Alert. Intruder Alert.
Thor roused himself from the brief rest he had been enjoying watching the ball of the foot, though they almost never seemed to use their feet on the ball, which was not ball shaped... This game made no sense at all. Regardless, an intruder usually meant some powerful villain or other bent on taking their revenge upon the Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
The alarm screens informed him of the location of the intruder, along with 'unknown identity'. So it was not a villain in their database? Someone looking to make a name for themselves, then? To steal something from the vaults of the mansion? Ah well, best to get out there and stop them before they did whatever they were there for, then ask them what they had been seeking.
Moments later, Thor had opened the nearest window and taken to the skies, looking down for the intruder. The... remarkably easily located intruder. Thor spent a few moments observing him, checking for anyone else, but it seemed he was alone. And was clearly a child by Midgardian standards. As such, he floated down behind the boy skulking in one of the bushes, landing gently and waiting for a second or so before making himself known.
"Greetings. I assume you are about to explain your presence here?"

Staring ahead, Kei stayed low as he prepared to move when a deep voice behind him spoke. The teenager spun and jumped, hitting almost two feet in the air as he let out a mix between a yell and a scream. Falling on his rear he scooted back quickly to put some distance between them. His eyes finally focused and then widened to the size of platters. Standing before him was the God of Thunder himself, Thor! The wielder of Mjolnir and son of Odin, one of the strongest Avengers and beings in the Universe. Kei felt his chest constrict and cough as he tried to gather his breath after the scare.
Those words hit him hard. He didn't fully know the answer himself. His mother needed reassurance or a talking too. Kei stood up and dropped the hood from his head, his black hair hanging down over dark brown eyes. "Hello, my name is Kei. I need help. Avenger kind of help. A year ago, I got hit by this gas or mist or whatever and I woke up able to do things. I don't know if you can imagine, being a god and all, how it feels to go from a regular kid to someone who is a danger to their family. My mom is worried but doesn't know what to do and I don't know how to console her. Also, I am scared. I worry someone will find out and try and hurt me or them because of it. I thought maybe, if I could speak to the Avengers they could, I don't know. Help in some way."
Kei blushed as he realized he was ranting his entire prepared speech to a God. He looked around wondering if he should just run. I mean, these guys took on Planet sized problems, one kid isn't going to be on their radar.

Another victim of the fallout of the Heroes Civil War, it seemed. Not someone injured by it, but someone left scared to be themselves by the poor reaction to it all by the public. Surely it was the duty of any hero to see this wrong righted, and immediately.
Thor smiled warmly and gestured towards the mansion's main doors in an invitation to join him indoors. "You are not the first such case I have heard of. A few have been exposed to these mists, I am told they are called Terrigen, and in a rare few they awaken something dormant for untold generations. I know of another hero of similar age to yourself, one who would surely be ready to help you learn about your new nature, to introduce you to others of your new family, and other heroes in general. But my own aid to you will not end with the mere sending of an electronic missive. No, I shall sit with you and talk of all you need."
By this point, Thor had reached the doors to the mansion and tapped a few buttons on the security panel, turning off the alarm and designating the newcomer as a visitor rather than intruder. As he opened the door and stepped aside for his new friend, he resumed talking. "The Avengers have begun teaching of some younger people who seek the heroic path, this is an option if you wish it. Your family and friends would be protected of course. Regardless of your wishes for the future, we will keep your present safe."

Kei realized the God was actually leading him toward the mansion, a feeling of hope flooded him from hair to toe. And yes, a bit of excitement as well. He gazed at the building as they got closer and his mind raced. He, Kei, a nobody. Was about to enter the headquarters of the most powerful heroes alive! The door slid opened and cool air hit him, different from the hot air outside. The place even smelled powerful and clean.
Walking inside, he listened as Thor spoke about others who had been changed by this phenomenon. "Terrigens. What is that?" he asked curiously while his eyes drank everything in around him. He felt a real fanboy moment coming on but held his reigns. He hadn't come here to be a tourist. A hero? Kei had never considered being a hero or anything really. He wasn't sure if his mom would be okay with him fighting crime. But he had a real gift, a real power that could help. "So, are you curious about what I can do? For all you know I could just balloon my head or grow my nails. Not really a hero type power." He joked as he looked up at Thor. Dang this guy was TALL!

Thor walked in the direction of the nearest set of comfy chairs, often utilised for the first official conversation with a would-be hero, or a youngster in this sort of situation. He gestured to one chair, sitting in another where he would be facing mostly towards the one indicated, but at a slight angle to allow for the looking around which this youngster was no doubt eager to do.
"Terrigen... I know little of what it is. Some form of alchemy, I think, used by the Inhumans of Attilan. Despite their name, they are largely no different from any human on the planet. Except that Terrigen will awaken their powers. It sounds very likely that you are an Inhuman, since I know of no other mist that awakens powers. They would be able to confirm this of course, no doubt help train you if you need or desire it... But you are under no obligation to seek them out. If your wish is to seek others like yourself, then the one I mentioned already seems a good start."
Thor paused to try and remember what he could about the young lady in question, still a child by the standards of Midgard, though she would surely have been into battle more than once if she were Asgardian. Indeed, arguably she already had even here, just against supervillains and mad inventors instead of frost giants and trolls.
"She is known as Ms Marvel, and is... one of the kindest young people I have met in this realm. What would you wish to know of her?"

Kei gazed around as he took the offered seat, head in the clouds at the sheer excitement of it all. Thor, Ironman, Hulk, and so many other heroes had walked these halls. He focused on Thor as the god began speaking, though his own eyes kept shifting around the room. Terrigen. That was the name of the mist that had changed him forever. It was nice to get real answers, answers he could take home and share with his parents. So, he was inhuman. Not the most flattering of names but it gave him a lead. So, a group of people got superpowers from a thing called Terrigen mist and could do stuff.
"Okay, so how did this Terrigen mist get out to effect people like me? I mean, it isn't like I went to their club house and gassed myself. I was walking home when surprise, green fog enveloped me, and I woke up crawling out of a cocoon. Instant uncontrollable superpowers."
His voice grew angry near the middle, angry and scared. He had been normal! Friends, family, school. Sure, it was boring, but it wasn't his family being chased across the country by monsters, or having a creature appear and destroy his dad's business. He didn't have dreams of other planes so terrifying they left him shaking, of creatures so monstrous that could gaze at him and whisper. "I don't know about being a hero, my... abilities scare me. So far they have done nothing but ruin my life, my parent's lives."
He gave a shrug when asked about the girl. "Sure, I mean. She seems like your kind of hero, I guess. What does she do?"

It sounded like another one of those random accidents which had given so many people powers. Not for the first time, Thor concluded that mortal science was a risky thing indeed. For each hero such as Ms Marvel, you got a villain like the one with the bending metal arms. The doctor... something about eight? Or was he thinking of their word 'doctoreight'? Ugh, the English language was so... disorganised.
"It sounds like someone might have been doing unsafe experiments and let one get out of hand. If you can remember where and when this was, we shall see what we can find out. But experience tells me they will be long gone. And... your powers might have made things complicated, but you are here trying to do the right thing still, yes? Then your life has not been ruined yet. Do you remember learning to ride a... bike, I think you call it? I am told it is difficult, I have never tried. But once you know how to, it is easy? Your powers are the same.
If you fear you or your family are in danger from lack of control, we can arrange for somewhere for you to live until you have learned the basics. And we can help with that learning. Ms Marvel had already learned her powers when she came to us, but we have taught her many things to aid her in helping others. She can change her shape similarly to Mr Fantastic, but she can do some things he can't, and vice versa. Much of her time that I know of is spent in finding ways to help people, rather than just fight people."

Kei sighed as he lowered his head. A byproduct of some nut job messing with things they shouldn't. And from what Thor said the guy was probably long gone, it had been a year. "It happened in Atlanta, Georgia. But yeah, they probably already splitsville."
Kei smiled as he looked down, listening to Thor was fun. An actual god getting tripped up over something like a bike. Then an image of Thor riding a Harley through the sky appeared in his head and made him chuckle under his breath. "I don't want to be taken from my family but maybe there is a place I can go after school for a couple hours to train my powers, to learn to control them better. A lot of what I want to control are the dreams! I see.... places. Dark, strange, scary places. And the monsters, they whisper to me, as me to set them free. They know my name. Some are nice, they tell me stories and show me cool stuff. Others aren't, they whisper bad things to me, promise me power if I bring them here. But if power is what I am seeing now I don't want more of it."
His arms hugged the hoodie and for a moment the fabric seemed to shift, tighten around him, and yes, one of the eyes on the hood moved and gazed at Thor. "Shapeshifting would be cool, much better than what I can do. I bring monsters to life; how does that help people? I am basically Doctor Frankenstein."

It sounded like the child had regrets about his powers' origins, which seemed a little confusing at first, at least until he explained a little about what they involved. The Odinson listened and considered the implications of what had been conveyed. This was far from his expertise, but he was happy to do what he could.
"We can teach you when you are not attending your halls of tutors, and I can pass your details on to... an expert on the realms of dreams and imagination. Whilst I doubt your powers are magical, it seems likely that Dr Strange - the Sorcerer Supreme will be able to advise you better than any, though he is often busy protecting this realm, so he might not be able to speak to you right away."
What else could be done to help him? Or indeed to assure him he and his family would be safe? This was far from Thor's usual activities as an Avenger, but it was not unheard of for him to interact with mortals - he always liked a glimpse into what some might call a 'simple' life.
"So you have some connection to great beasts, and they talk to you? Hm. Fascinating. You would likely be welcome in a great many of the ten realms with such linguistic potential. And whilst Frankenstein was a mere story, I recall that in it, the 'monster' was a peaceful vegetarian who sought to harm nobody. Appearances can mislead, even if they are sometimes what you'd expect also. Now... is your attire watching me out of concern for you? Or something else?"

Hall of tutors? Oh school. Kei liked the way Thor talked it was different and funny, he wasn't at all what people imagined him to be. A handsome brute only good for punching, he was a nice guy even if his vocab was a little outdated. "Well, actually I am home schooled. My hall of tutors are my own halls. So, it shouldn't be hard to set up a schedule." Kei felt better knowing there were people who could help him, he doubted they could make the dreams stop but at least an explanation into what he was seeing and why would make him feel better. Maybe they could even help him learn to control where he goes, some of those asked to be set free were very scary and he sensed very powerful.
Kei sighed and slid a hand through his long hair. "If you recall though he was peaceful it didn't stop the villagers from trying to burn him alive. And yeah, I can speak to monsters. I thought it was just mine, but I spoke to a monster I didn't summon just fine. I thought a side effect would be able to speak all languages, apparently not. I still don't get French at all. But give me a vicious roaring monster and I can chat all day."
He looked down at the orange hoodie and hugged it. "Umm, yeah this is Shell. A monster I summoned who protects me from danger. I got chased through New York by this psycho hunter guy bent on taking my head. After I escaped, I decided I needed protection, so Shell does that. He is extremely hardy and fuses with my clothes, I don't think he has any offensive capabilities, but I stabbed him, and the knife bent. He can also swell my clothes out to protect me from falls. He just watches people, ignore him."

Thor understood that it was quite rare for someone so young to be well read, but then it was quite rare for anyone to have super powers. Ah well, maybe the two were linked, maybe not. "True, and those your people call 'mutants' are treated much the same. But perchance 'tis nobler to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune than to take arms against a sea of troubles, and by opposing end them.
It sounds like you can avoid harm from misguided and foolish peasants, so if that becomes an actual reality rather than a possible future? Show them you are better than that. Most of the Avengers have been hated at some point, even the organisation as a whole. But we keep saving the world anyway. If you need an inspiration for enduring public mistrust? Look no further than Spider-man. Truly an inspiration for someone who endures more abuse by your wordsmiths of opinions than any I can think of."
Indeed, Spider-man was near constantly being blamed by the Daily Bugle for some villain's atrocity or other, never mind that he had always stood against the criminals. But it was the way of this realm for even a fool scared of the truth to be permitted to shout his fears to all, and so Thor had not destroyed the Daily Bugle's building with a targeted thunderstorm overnight. Also that if he did, it would somehow get blamed on Spider-man, no doubt.
The revelation that Kei had a guardian angel of sorts, albeit a monstrous one, was good news indeed. Far too many youngsters discovered they had powers, and immediately got in over their heads and ended up being badly hurt. A little protection against at least the basic threats of the world was always a good thing. And since it had a languages of its own based on what Kei was saying, the Allspeak would allow Thor's words to reach its ears.
"My thanks, Shell. Protecting another is a noble endeavour, especially when most will not know what you do. Know that I shall know of you and your role in any and every act of our friend, both great and small."
Thor put his hammer down beside his chair at this point, thinking through what usually needed to be done in this sort of situation - something usually handled by others, of course.
"So. Either I can get someone to call you later on to work out a schedule with the Avengers Academy, or I can see if anyone can contact Ms Marvel for her to get in contact with you. But is there anything else you wish to learn?"

Kei gave a slight nod as he turned his head looking at the amazing halls, he was presently in. "It isn't me I worry about most of all but my parents. They have been so protective and supportive of me, but I can tell they are scared. I literally walk around with a monster as a shirt, moms tend to worry over a scraped knee, let alone their son summoning a fifty-foot lizard. And if they target me, they are likely to target them. At what point does it become self-defense to use my powers to protect my parents or myself? Yeah, we get a lot of crap because people are scared. Thor, your very presence destroyed thousands of years of socialized religion or made it even worse. You're a god from Norse mythology, a religion we believed nearly gone, yet here you sit in the flesh, Hammer and all. We have met aliens when we thought ourselves alone. And now I discover my blood line has some weird ancient super juice that was activated by green mist!"
He plopped his head into his hands and took a deep breath. "In the past year of running I have witnessed things I have never seen in the likes of Georgia. I now live in a city of super beings like, yes, Spider-man. Who really does get a lot of crap from that Jameson guy, what a jerk! I have seen beings flying around, full on brawls in the streets, I was chased by a guy who wanted to put my head on a wall! Entering this kind of world is terrifying!"
He finished his rant as Shell seemed to pull him back up in the seat. It's eyes turning to Thor and a mouth formed in the fabric. "I thank you for acknowledging me, Odinson." The voice was aged, like a happy grandfather. "The boy needed protection, I saw this as his mind traveled my realm, he was alone and scared. I too have been there, knowing the likes of you will aid him truly makes me feel relieved."
As Shell talked, Kei's eyes seemed to go hazy, staring off into the distance. In his mind he heard a hiss, a slither, a whisper with venomous undertone. " The Odinson is close, I feel him, see him, know him. Free me little one, let me loose on my foe, freeee meeeeee."
Kei let out a yell as he snapped back to his surroundings, eyes wide as he flicked them from left to right before landing on Thor. "Jörmungandr!" his voice was shaky as he clung to Shell, looking at Thor with eyes the size of plates, chest rising and falling. "I saw him, heard him. He wants me to release him, to let him loose."

Thor was no great expert on Midgardian law, but he'd certainly learned much from his time in the realm, and with the Avengers. Their 'civil war' thing which he still held to be foolish in the extreme had put certain things in a more urgent light, and as such he'd learned more about those laws of man even as he remained exempt from them.
"A good rule of thumb is that if it to defend yourself or another, anything you do equal or less than what you have cause to fear may happen otherwise, that would be permissible under your laws, and considered honourable by myself and other Avengers. Should legal troubles occur from an honourable act, we would support you however we could. There are several capable lawyers we have called on more than once, and would be happy to do so again if you so needed." Many knew the name of She-Hulk, though sadly very few knew her as Jennifer Walters. Matt Murdock had the same, but in the other direction. He was well known as a lawyer, but his identity as Daredevil was a closely guarded secret. But Thor knew either or both would fiercely protect the rights of anyone who had been protecting their family.
The sudden outcry from the young man caught his attention again from this train of thought. When it was followed by a name that could strike fear into the heart of many seasoned veterans of Asgard, Thor leaned forwards in his chair slightly, though his hand did not reach for his weapon.
"Aye, Jörmungandr is destined to die in battle against me, just as I am likewise to fall. But it will not happen here, so far from Asgard. Until the day of Ragnarok then the Midgard Serpent holds no power. You need not fear that scaly pest."

Kei smiled slightly as he slid a hand through long black hair, it was nice to know if anything happened, they at least have access to great lawyers. Didn't help the big picture though, mainly what was he supposed to do now? Looking at Thor he saw a man who was fully in control of himself and his powers, a being who spent lifetimes honing his abilities and protecting others. He was in a building of people who had chosen that path, to fully dedicate themselves to be the guy that people turned to for help and safety. Kei admired these guys his entire life, after all, who didn't dream of having superpowers and standing beside Hulk and Iron Man? Yeah right, they wished until they got a power, they didn't know what to do with. Flying and super strength were pretty streamlined to be a hero. How does a kid that summoned monsters help? But he had to think positive, his dad always said a man stepped forward when others stepped back.
"So, I think I want to try this training stuff you mentioned. Maybe join one of the smaller teams where I can work on honing my powers and understanding them better. Maybe learn to defend myself besides just relying on my powers to get me out of every jam. So, if I said yes to this program when would I start?"
Kei knew he was stepping into a major and dangerous path, but one he needed to do to protect himself and his family. Besides it was only a matter of time until S.H.I.E.L.D. broke down his door and dragged him off somewhere because he unleashed some monster on Seatle while drawing. And it would be cool to meet other kids who had trouble with their abilities. He hadn't made any real friends since this whole power thing began and he was kind of tired of it.
Shell however had a curious gaze in its eye as it looked at the hammer of Thor, one of the sleeves seemed to elongate past Kei's hand down towards the handle, stopping a couple inches away before looking at Thor. "May I?"
