Note: This Solo is going on at the Start of "Honor Thy Mother."
Meanwhile in the Isla des Demonas Azazel was witnessing the whole conversation unfold through Kurt's eyes. He could not believe it. At first, he thought maybe this was all just a tease, a way to poke fun at Nightcrawler's origin. It was kind of of absurd if one really thought about it. One of the most devout believers of God in the modern era across all Abrahamic religions, denominations, and sects, and he was the son of what many rightly or wrongly believed to be Satan himself. Whether he was or not Azazel certainly matched most mortals imagined when they pictured the devil. All that was missing was the pitchfork. Yes. it was an origin story straight out of a fairy tale or a bad comic book, but hey it could be more absurd right? The Mother could have been the father and...but Azazel's amused demeanor quickly changed as he realized that Raven was being serious.
No this could not be! He remembered their promise as if it were yesterday. He remembered their agreement as if it were yesterday.
"Never confuse a physical passion for a condition of the heart, my dear. Since the dawn of mankind, the two have rarely gone hand in hand. Now go back to the Baron, stay safe and warm in the cozy, comfortable, protected little world you've married into, and raise our child--my child--as his"
That was the agreement, that was the contract that...was the promise they made to each other when he had given her that piece of himself.
"לא, זה לא יכול להיות נכון !זה לא יכול להיות נכון!" (lo, ze lo yakul geta motto! ze lo yakul geta motto!) (No, this cannot be true! This cannot be true!)
"Calcabrina!" he cried out.
Calcabrina, his soul harvester, his second in command appeared in a black void of smoke.
“You summoned me my lord?”
In the Mortal plane, Calcabrina would take on the form of an old hag. However here in the brimstone dimension she took on the form of a beautiful dark angelic looking woman dressed in a spider-silk dress. She saw her master pacing and watched as he stoped time on earth and replayed Mystique’s revelation over and over again.
Calcabrina sighed. “So you now you know the truth."
Azazel was now dumbstruck. “You knew of this?”
Calcabrina nodded. In truth she always distrusted the shapeshifter known as Mystique, and she had decided to use the Shapeshifter’s connection to her master to spy on her in the most intimate way. What Calcabrina discovered was ultimately Mystique’s betrayal and it disgusted her. From the Hall of Secrets Calcabrina removed an orb and showed Azazel the secret Mystique tried to high. All her actions, all her inner secrets and thoughts were revealed.
Azazel looked in shock as he saw Mystique and Irine together, he watched she took the form of a male and laid with Irine as a male would lay with a woman. He saw as her husband discovered the affair, and was murdered by Mystique for his troubles. He saw as the months past and Irine grew with child…HIS child, everything else seemed to on the surface played out as he understood it. Someone had taken nightcrawler and attempted to drop her. But still he had begun to question everything he understood. He called bullcrap on Mystique’s excuses for not being a part of Nightcrawlers live. She had 27 years. 27 years to locate her son and be apart of his life, yet only now did she seem to bother. Did she even watch him from afar, truly?
Above that, Where was Azazel’s place in this twisted parentage? His right hand seemed to have an answer.
“Mortal’s have a process called Egg donating. When a woman is infertile doctor’s will place an egg in the woman’s womb so that she may bare child even if it is not technically her own. Whether intentional or not, when Mystique took the form of a male she mixed her DNA with yours but with the role reversed.
Azazel’s did everything he could not to let his anger boil over. He let out a sigh.
“So…I am not Kurt’s Father…I am his mother.”
Calcabrina sighed “…it’s complicated, depending on how you define what determines motherhood, but yes, Nightcrawler's conception is the result is the fruits of both you and Mystique, even if not in the way it was meant to be.”
“...I was meant to seed the child and be the boys father, instead, I was the right and pleasure of either. My egg…my child, was planted in the belly of a mistress, a strange woman...without my consent or knowledge”
He then looked to Calcabrina “But why hide this from me?”
The witch looked down her face downcasted, and then she looked at him
“I did consider telling you the truth my lord. I admit, from the very beginning I did not trust this woman. Her very eyes spoke deception, her very heart was like that of a rat. Her mistress is every bit as bad as she is. They enable the worst aspects of each other. But then I saw the way you looked for her…and mourned her, the way you carried your son when you saved him from that Waterfall, and for the first time since I met you, I saw true love within you. So I held out, though deep down I knew this would only end in heartbreak and confusion I had hoped Raven would someday see her mistress for what she truly was, and let that flame of passion die, embracing you and the child as family, but that seems to not be the case.”
Azazel growled. “Even her apologies to my son seem hollow.”
Calcabrina nodded. “In the end it seems like Raven Darkhölme cares about only two thing,. Her mistress and above all…herself."
She knelt down before her master and hung her head. “Forgive me my lord. In my compliance with the deception, I have betrayed you. I submit myself to your judgment. Do with me as you will.”
Azazel looked to the witch that was in submission to him,he looked to her. He had every right to kill her but he did not have the heart. Calcabrina was not where his fury lied.
No, my friend, the fault is not on you. The fault is on her for her deception…and on me…for I did not follow my own advice. Never confuse a physical passion for a condition of the heart.”
Calcabrina rose up. “A contract was made, and she broke it. By right of the laws of creation, the souls of all involved belong to you and none would contest it less they physically try to challenge you for them. Raven, her husband, her mistress, Your son. Give the word and I shall harvest them. I will gladly harvest them, and invoke the punishment on Raven and her mistress that you see fit.”
Azazel thought for a bit on Calcabrina’s offer. In theory, at this point with the breaking of the deal now known to him, it wouldn't matter what Mystique, Irine or even Kurt tried to do, their souls belonged to him…perhaps Kurt would be the exception. But somehow he doubted that Mystique and Irine would be missed. Still. At this point it wasn't about souls. Right at this moment he no longer cared for them. He didn't even care about his son ruling along side him. Perhaps this was papa wolf…or mamma bear talking but he couldin’t just stand and watch this little viper tear his son down further.
“No, This is what mortals would call…a family affair…Mommy and Daddy need to talk things out., the lies the deception, the mind games, they ended here and now…thus…saith …Azazel…if I popped into the mortal plain, how long would I have?”
“12 hours, but after that you would need to rest for weeks after maybe even longer. Until your son or subjects in the mortal realm can find a way to break or bypass the barrier between our worlds you can not stay in the mortal world for long.”
“Still it gives me enough time to do what I need.” He then looked to Calcabrina. “Should the day ever come that I give up my throne. I trust you to rule this place.”
Calcabrina did nothing more than bow. “Even if the day should come where you give up your rule, even if I am Queen, I shall always be your eternal humble servant.”
Azazel could not help but smile, not a malicious one but a genuine one. He turned around and took a deep breath. He had an unfaithful wrech to confront. There was the Devil to pay.
