Blood is spilled while holding keys to the throne. Born again but it's too late to atone. Hail to the King!
Another day and more paperwork awaited the Kingpin at his office. Keeping his companies running was a tedious task, especially with the monumental moves being made. History was being etched into the very fabric of the city as events and people were moved across the board and now?
Now it was time to start on his new goals in earnest.
If keeping his legitimate businesses moving was an involved process, it paled in comparison to the shadier side that Fisk lived his life in. It was one thing to claim the title of Kingpin. Another to put in the work to earn the title of Kingpin. It was an entirely larger matter to keep the title of Kingpin.
His massive fingers curled around the throat of a would-be gunrunner as the small crowd looked on, watching and waiting with held breaths. Despite the two dozen men and women that filled the basement, not a one made a sound. So quiet was it that the snap of the man's spine echoed throughout the room as his form went limp and lifeless in the large crime boss' hand.
With a simple unclamping of his fingers, Fisk let the body drop to the ground before him before turning to face the rest.
"You forget, I'm afraid, just who's city you occupy." His words carried weight from his bass voice, mirroring the break that it followed and every person in attendance stepped back away from him. "I ask for respect. I ask for a small share of profits. In return, I keep you safe. Provide places to do your work. Offer contacts to make you profitable. How am I repaid?"
The question hung in the air for nearly a minute as the group arrayed before the white-suited individual glanced between one another. Finally, it was a woman who stepped up, fingers clenched into fists at her side as she did her best to meet Kingpin's gaze.
"We're sorry, Mr. Fisk. Donnie, he... he was an idiot, and we were e--" Her words never finished as a large mitt fell against her shoulder. It didn't squeeze or flex, simply held her there as he looked down upon her.
"Mr. Brannagan, this... Donnie, has been taken care of. Can I trust you will make wiser decisions in our dealings going forward?"
"Yes, Ki... Mr. Fisk. Of course. We'll do whatever you say."
"Good, now, have your men clean up this mess." Lifting his hand off of the woman's shoulder, Fisk straightened up, fingers moving to correct his tie. "Keep your sales to where I say and avoid the city. Stick to Jersey. If you absolutely have to do a deal in Manhattan, you will stay clear of Elysium and Hell's Kitchen. Have I made myself clear?"
"Y-yes, Mr. Fisk. Of course."
"Also, there's some old, dangerous drugs on my streets. While it's not your bailiwick, if you hear of whoever is doing this, I expect to be informed. Now, Miss..."
He let his words linger as he waited for a name.
...Hail to the one...

You can't have my life I'm not your sacrifice. You can try, but I'm free, and you won't conquer me.
The door opened and instantly Hope was inspecting what little of the inside she could see. A few paths this way and that would lead deeper into the house, and she could spot a few silhouettes in the background. It was the man who opened the home yelling that offered more information as he exchanged a loud conversation with someone further inside.
When he finally turned his full attention to her, Hope was ready to try and argue with him about sending her away. It didn't change her plan too much, but if she was just let in... well, that would help a bit. She never had to, though, as a second man appeared and asked about some cookies. With a bright smile, she nodded.
"I think I've got one left!" the teen said cheerily as she turned towards her wagon. While the pair argued at the front door, she moved back and pulled the cloth off the top. The little radio flyer did not, in fact, house delectable treats for all ages. No, it carried a small arsenal of futuristic guns, several knives, and a pair of grenades. It was a large one of the former that she grabbed and just as the second man was acquiescing to not putting her at risk, the former messiah was turning about to show who was really in danger.
"Fresh from the oven," the redhead said with a grin as she squeezed the trigger. A blast of energy ripped from the barrel with enough force that, if it hit, would knock both men back against the far wall inside and likely do some damage to it. It wasn't lethal, but with the number of broken bones her rifle would cause, the pair might wish it was.
I won't crawl, most of all, I won't fall For you!

Glitter! That's such a cute name, I love it! Super exciting to meet someone else into archery. Obviously I know there's others, and I've been in some competitions so I've met a bunch myself, but never met a superhero into it yet! That's exciting! Will definitely be DM'ing you!

X gon' give it to ya $@%! waiting for you to get it on your own, X gon' deliver to ya
The voice of the sentinel activating was unmistakable and it brought Laura from inside her vanquished foe with some haste. So far it seemed that anything bad that could happen on this mission was happening, and what's worse... there was no way any of these sentinels were in a state to activate themselves. Whoever was watching them had triggered it.
Her nimble form moved over the fallen body of the now fully dead robot she had just pierced. In a second she was on its head and leaping off. Claws popped from knuckles and feet as she lunged.
"Hey Murder Bot, leave the kid alone!" She wouldn't make it, of course. The machine was made to handle mutants and rarely were they taken down by a single one. It hadn't been her intention, though. Instead the weapon swiveled its head to face her and its eyes glowed.
Good, keep it off the others...
In a flash, she was flying backwards, slamming into a wall with a grimace of pain. She felt her flesh burn from the beam as her ribs broke from the impact and she felt both already knitting themselves back together. With a snarl, she pushed herself off the wall and ran at it again.
Knock knock, open up the door, it's real. With the non-stop, pop-pop of stainless steel!

When Razor admitted the smell wasn't particularly great, Laura simply allowed the two to change the conversation. The point wasn't a lecture, it was an example. This wasn't the spot for a conversation and as Daken stated...
The trio had lost the element of surprise.
Of course, Malik's uncertain words brought her attention to him and she frowned as she looked around. "Sentinels." Mutant killing machines with one goal. Not currently active but that didn't mean they weren't a threat. Glancing over at Daken, she nodded to the one at the right before turning to the left.
"Battery in the chest, disconnect it. If you can't get in there, braincase in the head. If you can't destroy either, take out the cables that connect them." Sentinel Anatomy 101. For all their mechanized terror, they functioned rather similarly to humans. A heart and a brain. Take out either and they were guaranteed dead.
Jumping up to her chosen one, she used her claws to slide a hole straight through the center chest plate and in a few seconds she had ripped its battery out.
Knock knock, open up the door, it's real. With the non-stop, pop-pop of stainless steel!

You can't have my life I'm not your sacrifice. You can try, but I'm free, and you won't conquer me.
Is it a bit cliché to walk up to a house wearing your hair back in a ponytail, dressed in a skirt, hauling a wagon with a sheet over the goodies inside, and knock on a door to a mansion in the middle of nowhere? Yes. Yes it was. Did several sentries definitely radio their sightings of her as she approached? Almost definitely. Was it stupid dramatics for the sake of dramatics? Only about half. Honestly, the Purifiers were bad people who hurt mutants just because they were mutants but that meant they mostly tried to leave humans unharmed. Hope, a sixteen year old girl dressed somewhat like a girl scout and hauling cookies with a bright red ponytail? She looked a lot like a human and she suspected they wouldn't hurt her until they were sure.
Which is why she chose it as the approach. It got her close to the door so when everyone did act, she was already behind their lines. Of course, she was still raised by Cable and though he'd never admit it, he had a flair for the dramatic and she learned that quickly.
"Hello? Anyone home? I'm selling cookies. You like cookies, right? Help a girl out and buy some?"
I won't crawl, most of all, I won't fall For you!

If the real thing don't do the trick You better make up something quick You gonna burn, burn, burn, burn, burn to the wick
Mystique and Destiny. Two more former Freedom Force members, with the latter having lost her life in the line of duty. As least as close to duty as you can call it when the government is using supervillains against heroes. Why such terrible ideas ever got beyond someone saying something completely stupid and then fired was beyond Sharon. Eventually someone would learn the lesson that using supervillains was never a good look and it rarely ended well.
Still, as he spoke, Carter frowned. Mystique seemed an odd target for Fury, and if all she was trying to do was bring back an old woman, it hardly seemed that important. If his target was Mystique, no doubt the reason was much more interesting. His insistence to 'get to work' also struck a nerve.
"This report?" the woman asked as she lifted up the paper she had been quietly scribbling on while they talked. "It's not a report." She flipped it around, showing off a badly drawn caricature of the big man. "See, I file a report saying you're working for Fury, and you probably get thrown in a brig somewhere. To some people around here, that man's a traitor. He took a bunch of superheroes and attacked a sovereign nation, then proceeded to wipe their minds. Almost got the entire country blown off the map."
Setting her crude drawing back on the table, she flipped the file closed.
"I trust him enough to think he had good reason, to give him the benefit of the doubt. Now, I tell Director Hill, his replacement who isn't particularly fond of super folk, he's sent a terrorist our way and wants us to work with him?" Agent 13 whistled in a way that sounded like that scenario wasn't going to end well for anyone. "I'd like to avoid that. So, if you want to tell me just who does need to know, I can see about getting them in a room with you. If you don't have a name, then I'm the person that needs to know, and you should probably start talking."

You're part of my entity Here for infinity When the war has took its part
Working methodically, the machine plodded slowly through the city. In its wake, fires blazed, turning structures to ashes as rubble filled the streets. What little resistance it... she was met with crumbled quickly. Police and firefights were forced into a constant losing battle as the mechanized terror worked. Every barrier they set up was slowly overcome and bullets bounced off the metal flesh of the destroyer, not seeming to even be enough to draw its attention.
Beams of energy flashed through the dust and smoke, striking buildings and charring foundations. She made no effort to target humans, but neither did she seem to be avoiding them, either. Still, the devastation wasn't total. Apartments were left untouched and she made no attempt to move near residential areas. No, her work at dismantling the city seemed contained to the areas of industry that poisoned the world. Her work would do similar, spreading more gas into the air, but it would subside in a few days and still not approach the levels the area would produce in a single year.
As the mechanized destruction grasped the front of a police car and tossed it effortlessly to the side, the police that were trying to hold the line ran. They would be back, forming a new line, but it was clear that they were hilariously and hopelessly outmatched.

You're part of my entity Here for infinity When the war has took its part
The planet was dying.
Perhaps a bit dramatic, and on the grand scale of things it wasn't even true. For the artificial intelligence that was Pod, subtlety wasn't particularly important. The mission was and as it scanned over the world, it was clear that humans were wreaking havoc on the world. Radiation covered swaths of land where mankind had sought to harness it. Oil and mercury polluted the waters. Lead had been burned at such a rate that it was now embedded in the ice caps.
So many issues and all from one source.
Humans.

The red eye of the machine swept across the world below from its perch in the upper atmosphere and was disappointed. Was it... she... to protect all life, even man, or was removing them to the benefit of the whole?
System Status: User: Confused
A voice separate from the AI answered before quieting down. Humans weren't evil. They just needed help. Pod would help by removing one of the culprits.
Hotspots were everywhere, pollution filling the skies but some places were far worse than others. The eastern half of the world below the equator was a large problem, but it spanned so far that striking there would make it nearly impossible to keep casualties to a minimum. No, another location was preferred. Smaller in scope.
Send a message, then perhaps the rest could be resolved less... violently.
User Status: Offline
Like lightning from a god, the machine hit the ground. The manmade earth beneath its feet crumbled and shattered at the impact. People moving through the streets stopped and stared. Some pointed, some ran. Some pulled out their phones and began to record. They recorded as the armor rose to its full height. Though human in shape, it made all near feel small with its... with her imposing stature.
As the red eye met those around it, calm and silence took over. The people waited with bated breath as they watched the mysterious visitor. Then the chaos began as the head turned and a beam of energy shot from the eye. Where once a factory stood spewing poison into the air, in moments it was replaced with rubble.
Aguascalientes, Mexico was on fire.

Oh the places you'll go, with your eyes so wide With your heart in your hands, and your sword at your side Oh the mountains you'll move, oh the tears you'll cry
Emily hadn't even realized her body had tensed up while she was thinking. By the time she made her promise, her fingers were clenched into tight fists held at her side and she stood tall. He was going to judge her, he had made that much clear, and no small part of her held defiant against such scrutiny, but she faced it head on. Even the glow of the light from the amulet about the man's neck didn't cause her to flinch.
Then it was done and she let out a breath she hadn't even known she was holding in. All at once her body relaxed, fingers stretching as her shoulders slumped. Being stubborn was natural to the young Bright, and it was nothing compared to her mother, but it didn't mean it didn't come with some strain.
Then the doctor spoke once more and she didn't even attempt to hide the smile that lit up her face. It wasn't the compliment, and it certainly wasn't the list of things she needed. It was the invitation.
One she was ready to accept without a moment's hesitation.
"Yes!" The response came with a small bounce as her fingers found themselves folded together in front of her chest and she looked up at the man, excited. Excitement that quickly faded as she realized what it likely meant. "I... I mean... I really would, but I think... I think you might need to talk to my parents."
Oh the places you'll go...

Oh the places you'll go, with your eyes so wide With your heart in your hands, and your sword at your side Oh the mountains you'll move, oh the tears you'll cry
"That's a neat trick," the young Bright said as the Doctor explained that only she could see him when they were in the backyard... which apparently they weren't anymore. That last part somehow surprised her more than it should have. After all, they were in the wide open expanse of the universe and beyond and had just looked down at a city she didn't recognize. Still, some voice at the back of her brain told her it was a trick. Some sort of illusion...
If it wasn't, then where were they and how much were her parents going to ground her for going there with a stranger?
Then he asked for a promise, which answered a question she hadn't asked. He really was going to teach her. She just had to say she wouldn't misuse the knowledge. This brought her up short and she bit her lower lip as she thought. One question answered, so many more now to ask. Misuse them according to who? Some old guy she didn't know? Sure, he was a hero, an Avenger... she had reached out to him, but that didn't mean she knew him.
Would healing Emma count as misusing them? Would showing off a new trick to her mom and dad count?
Or did he just mean she shouldn't hurt people... reality with what he taught her? Defenders of reality... it was scary, but it also suggested a lot. She didn't know if she wanted something that lofty, but Emily Bright was also certain she wasn't looking to hurt people.
"I promise."
Oh the places you'll go...

Oh the places you'll go, with your eyes so wide With your heart in your hands, and your sword at your side Oh the mountains you'll move, oh the tears you'll cry
The man that was (and wasn't) there began to walk through the space that wasn't (and was) there. Though he made no motion to have her follow, the young girl (that definitely was there unless she wasn't) moved to keep pace with him, her smaller frame having to step a bit quicker to keep up. Listening intently to the man's words, she allowed herself to nod attentively as he spoke, not wanting to interrupt the Sorcerer Supreme, opting instead to absorb as much of his words as possible.
When he paused to open up a window back from the world that was, Emily couldn't hold back a soft shudder. Perhaps it was because she had never experienced someone else doing magic nearby, or the strange reality in which they found themselves, but the Doctor's spells sent goosebumps up her spine.
A small, delicate hand reached out as if to touch the window as the elder spoke, but the young sorceress stopped herself short of actual contact.
"Defenders... of reality?" she finally spoke, her voice carrying as much a question as an attempt to absorb the title bestowed. "Is that what I am?" A soft frown creased the edges of her soft lips as she stared into the world revealed in the portal. It sounded so... important.
Emily Bright wasn't so sure she was that important.
Wasn't so sure she could defend herself all that well. Reality was a long way off.
Rather than wait for an answer to her question, the girl simply returned to her mental list of questions. Right at the top? "So how do I... learn all this? Like, people might notice if a weird ghost guy in a red cape starts showing up in my backyard all the time."
Oh the places you'll go...
